In this era it should take no longer than 2 years to turn a basketball program around.

It should, doesn’t mean it will. And by turn around what do you mean?

Question ... why

I can't think of a precedent where an NBA head coach left a job to take a college job.  Looks like Snyder is making $8 million per season.  Would Texas go there?

Ivey seems like he is on the trajectory to get an NBA HC job.  Doesn't seem like the right move to take a college job at this point

Pitino left the Knicks to go to Kentucky.  He wasn't forced out then, unlike his departure from the Celtics .

It shouldn’t. Basketball is the easiest sport to turn around and flip a roster to be successful especially in this era. It’s not like football that takes 3-4 years to turnaround and churn a healthy roster. We have top facilities and top arena in the country. This isn’t a full rebuild so we should see a more complete well coached team in year 2 of the new coaches tenure.

Maybe if we hire Ivey and he sucks TJ will finally shut up about Ivey.

lol

Ivey wouldn’t suck as a coach. He’s a terrific offensive mind in the modern game, and a winner

But the question is what would success for the fan base be

I just don’t see the upside with either. Quin’s never been anything special and certainly wasn’t in college. Ivey is a bigger risk than even RT was IMO. Only head coaching experience is Olympics where his biggest praise is losing to team USA by 1. Which yes I get is cool based on who he was coaching but that isn’t a good enough argument for me.
just personally think we could do better.

That’s the question for any coach that’s hired.

Majority of the fan base is unrealistic about basketball right now. Feel bad for the next coach if he doesn’t also get a bigger NIL commitment than we have ever had previously.

If CDC wants to be in the top five or top ten, as he has said, that would require a lot of money. Texas really doesn’t have to do too much to stay as the second highest revenue sport.

Say what you will, but Ivey would be a horrible hire.

Might he be a great coach at Texas? Sure.

But Texas has immense resources. Taking that kind of risk is just bad business.

Not at all a surprise, but UVa announced within an hour of its loss to Ga Tech today that it would not give the job  to Sanchez.  I read an article stating the AD has 5 finalists--Odom, Smart, Otz (ain't happening), McCollum, and Bob Richey.  If you don't recognize the last name, I am not surprised.  He's the Furman coach who beat UVa in the first round a couple of years ago.

That was the first time I saw Shedrick play and thought, hey, he looks pretty good out there.

Since then I have seen the opposing view.

While Texas does have resources, when have they shown they will use them in regards to men's basketball because currently they are not?

De nada.

Almost all the other guys who left the NBA and took college gigs were actually fired from their NBA gig.  I'm talking Calipari, Hoiberg, Musselman, Kruger here.

Shedrick was a rebound and rim protect guy at UVa, but Bennett wanted to go to a 5 who could play perimeter offense, but he really wasn't that good at it, so he stuck Shedrick in at the end and got some good results.

Shedrick might have been a decent player had it not been for his shoulder surgeries.  Might have been.  I think he gets more s*** than he deserves because he has never been truly healthy here, but damn his hands are bad.

He's a 1/2-step to step late on defense and reaches. Not as bad as Tre, but Tre hasn't been in college five years, either. Shedrick also has been good for a foul in the first minute or two of a half, no matter what.

I like the guy, I really do. He's just the weakest link on a team that can't really afford to have one.

He's the weakest starter, but he's far and away the best option we have at the five, so it's not his fault we don't have a better player to eat up minutes at his position.

I spend a lot of games worried about him going to the bench with fouls and wondering if Onyema and Kent will give us anything.
