Steve Sarkisian has announced Texas will not have a 2025 spring football game. During his conversation with Kay Adams Thursday morning, Sarkisian made it official that the Longhorns will forego their annual spring football game.

OTF had reported this was a possibility for about a few weeks now.

On top of this news, I can add I have heard it is unlikely that Texas suits up completely for their spring football practices.

Full schedule and itinerary set to come out in the coming weeks.

Everyone gets it, I don’t.  A big part of this is about the fans.  I like taking the kids, and the experience of getting a first look at the new team.  This isn’t the pros. You take college football little by little bit out of college football and this thing tanks. Players and coaches don’t drive this thing. It’s the college logo, and the fans that follow that logo.  Not saying they aren’t a part, but they are renters and passing through.  Fans, the college, and traditions are the constants.

Losing 2 RBs last spring with one of em being RB1, I can deal with the spring being toned down a bit

Those injuries happened in fall camp, not spring. This is more an attempt to prevent tampering opportunities by other schools before the portal opens up.

One was non contact injury and the other occurred on a low hit after the whistle. Both during fall camp.

I agree, tone it down.  Find some happy medium.  OatA’s, that’s bulls!$t. Besides, the running backs  didn’t get hurt in spring game.  Of course don’t want anyone hurt,  but it’s football, unfortunate things happen.  Guarantee there will be just as many injuries or more when you go cold into full pads later.

If they open and close the 2nd portal window before the spring games, then the spring games will return.  This will be the new norm in the future unless that changes, at the expense of the fans.

I think there should only be one portal and that occurs after spring, make it last 30-40 days. The winter portal with NSD, playoffs, bowl games, academic calendars in Dec/Jan, and etc is just too much.
