Texas kicks off spring football tomorrow.

I checked in with one source in regards to what is expected from QB Arch Manning as he begins his first spring as the guy at Texas.

"There is more energy around the place with 16 leading the way," a source told me.

The conversation about energy and buzz around practice being ignited by Manning is not new. In fact, I would say it has been an overwhelming theme through winter conditioning. The offensive position rooms feed off of Manning and I am expecting this trend to continue into the fall.

"These throwing sessions feel different with Arch at quarterback," I was told.

High expectations for the quarterback out of New Orleans.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Why do we exactly need a portal WR? We have Wingo and Moore returning, two five start true freshmen, and some really talented guys already on campus. I don't think the super speedster type that we have gotten is exactly needed for the type vertical offense we will be running with Arch vs the more horizontal catch and run offense of Quinn. The body types, style, and speed we have on campus is the prototype for vertical passing game. Running a 4.3 doesn't make you a deep ball receiver....

Hope Arch lives up to the hype.  He sure has some skills and a lot of potential. I am looking forward to it.

Best of luck to Quinn in the future.

We expect a portal WR because that has been conveyed already to the wide receivers in the room from the coaching staff per multiple sources. This has been an ongoing conversation since the December window when the room was it was first known by folks on the roster.

Whether or not Texas needs a portal WR is up for discussion. But the plan is that Texas will be adding one via the portal in the next window.

And if one doesn't enter they find acceptable?

Getting a stud experienced WR is not something you turn down.

Wide receiver is the easiest position to transition from HS to college, I just don't see it as a portal necessity.

Look, I know I need to temper my expectations. I understand we lost a lot of talent. I get that Manning is just getting ready for his first season at QB... but, if we don't go 32-0 the next two years I will be severely disappointed.

Don't leave out the first back to back Heisman winner since Archie!
