K.J. Lacey schedules two visits to Texas

Texas quarterback commitment K.J. Lacey (Saraland, Al./High) will be on campus twice this spring.

OnTexasFootball was informed late Wednesday night that the 6-0, 180 pound Saraland High star will be a pair of visits in April. Lacey will first visit the weekend of April 6th to be in town for the Texas big offensive recruiting weekend that includes a number of offensive targets in the 2025 cycle. He will return two weeks later for the Longhorns Spring Game April 20th weekend.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach A.J. Milwee made a stop at Saraland High January 30. The duo also attended Saraland High's final game of the season in 2023.

Lacey committed to Texas June 3, 2023 over Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and Tennessee. He has 29 known offers, including nine from the SEC.

Ole Miss and Auburn continue to pursue Lacey.

Lacey will be a rare four year starter on the varsity level at quarterback. He enters his senior campaign 439 of 652 for 6,841 yards with 83 touchdowns. Saraldn High is 28-2 the last two seasons, including a State Championship in 2022. They lost in the state title game in 2023.

April 6 visitor list:
K.J. Lacey, QB, Saraland (Al.) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star
Lacey is also expected to make an official visit June 28-30.

Kelshaun Johnson, WR, Hitchock (Texas) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star
Johnson has official visits scheduled to Penn State May 31-June 1, Texas Tech June 8-10 and Texas very likely June 28-30.

John Mills, IOL, San Francisco (Calif.) St. Ignatius
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star
Texas will also receive an official visit June 14-16

Tyler Thomas, IOL, Dickinson (Texas) High
Thomas' spring visit schedule is locked in with LSU March 9, Texas A&M March 30 and Texas April 6. He's also likely to visit Texas April 20 for the SpringGame.

Would kill for the testing results from the UA camp in ATL last weekend

Those shorts wouldve got a kid bullied back in my day, but Lacey's lower body build looks better than expected based on his HT/WT listing

Having Lacey and Will Griffin in back to back classes would give Texas a 4 year and 5 year starter in the QB room

His rankings are all over the place.  Is he a 5 star like rivals has him?  Also, are there any concerns about arm strength?

Having seen him in person three times, he can make all the throws. Sark doesn't recruit a QB unless they can make all the throws required in his system.

Love this kid’s game! And it looks like he’s getting a little bigger? Out of ‘does he spread the ball around’ curiosity , does anyone know how many of his completions are to his 5-star teammate vs his other pass catchers?

2022 - Ryan Williams caught 88 ... KJ had 200 completions.

2023 - Ryan Williams caught 72 ... KJ had 219 completions

This will be good for KJ's development. Ryan was a cheat code against HS players it will be nice to see how he performs without him. KJ will still have Dillon Alfred though, so I expect him to have an excellent Senior year.

For sure... and I bet someone else moves into Saraland High. Their success level normal sees a kid or two move in annually.

Seems like a Texas lock and no flip will occur.  Great news.

Not sure about a lock. Say Arch starts 2 years after QE leaves that makes Lacy wait 2 years before he ever sees the field as a possible starter. Not counting who else is still competing in the QB room. QE coming back changed timelines no doubt. I hope he does, but in  this day and age and with NIL I wouldn't put any $ on it.

Again assuming Arch stays and plays 2 years after Quinn which seems more plausible at this time. But every QB in that room is facing that scenario Owens etc. But strong NIL and the great QB coaching here might win out, but I'm skeptical. Most kids don't wanna sit for 1 year much less 2. Nice problem to have though🤘

I know Gerry said Lacey can make all the throws, and Sark doesn't recruit QBs who can't make all the throws, but looking at his tape, he doesn't appear to me to have much zip or overall arm strength. I'm sure that will improve quite a bit over the next two to three years.

Think that's more of an NFL thing if he gets that far IMO. He doesn't have elite arm talent ... but neither did Bryce Young and a number of others. In the college game, he can make all the throws having seen him in person multiple times.
