TexasFanatic Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Good job opening. Let’s hope we can hold onto Maximum Weiner for a little longer. 2 Quote
UTexas Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Would really suck to lose Weiner after only 1 season. I'm sure it'll happen at some point but hopefully not after only 1 season. 2 Quote
Neil Leininger Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Seriously, the entire conference is watching what happens when you hire an assistant instead of a real coach with P4 head coaching experience. I doubt MSU is going to repeat the same mistake aggy made. 3 Quote

.45s Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Found this quote from their AD at their website ""Mississippi State is the premier job in college baseball. The tradition, the facilities, the NIL offerings and the fan base are all second to none. Dudy Noble Field is the best environment in the sport, period." 4 1 Quote
Drunk randoke Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Schloss has proven he hires well. We’re ok. Our guys are studs. He’ll find more studs. 2 Quote

That may be an overstatement (with one national championship, lol), But they do have a fantastic stadium and a large fan base. They should be proud of their baseball program. 1 Quote

Mentioned a couple of assistants (Nolan Cain being one) but all the rest were current head coaches. Edited April 29 by UTexas 1 Quote
Dav_Tex85 Posted April 29 Posted April 29 They are gonna hire a head coach, not an assistant. Good job that has won a national championship recently. Clemson HC or Kentucky HC in my opinion. 1 Quote

Mingione is under contract through 2029. I’m sure State would have to pay through the nose to snag a coach from within the conference. 2 Quote
Moderators Jeff Howe Posted April 29 Moderators Posted April 29 If was State, I’d look at Cliff Godwin at East Carolina. He’s probably the best coach in the country who hasn’t been to Omaha. Even though they’re coaching where they went to school, I’d see if Tim Tadlock or Josh Holiday might want a change of scenery. 3 Quote

Promise the Oregon St guy tons of NIL and have him in the best baseball conference vs basically no conference. 1 Quote

They might want someone who has a longer track record than Canham, but your point stands. State is willing to put money into baseball, which makes it a more attractive job than some might think. 1 Quote

.45s Posted April 30 Posted April 30 I talked to an MSU alum who is a big baseball fan and knows some of the donors and he said that the coach had been resting on his laurels and also that it appears that one of the assistants was making some waves behind the scenes. Baseball is really big there and my friend is really disappointed about the way things have deteriorated and how this played out. He didn't know what they were looking for in a new coach as far as having head coaching experience or not but wants somebody good. Quote
