Couple of afternoon recruiting notes

Wanted to pass along a couple of afternoon recruiting notes.

Confidence around Texas remains with 4-star+ EDGE Dre Quinn and 4-star+ DL Vodney Cleveland.

Texas is also doing pretty well with 4-star+ DL/EDGE Bryce Perry-Wright. But the Texas A&M visit looms. Clemson also in it.

OTF doesn’t have as much confidence with 4-star++ WR Jalen Lott. Texas had a solid visit, but we believe there is still ground to be made up. USC is strong. Oregon takes their mighty swing this weekend.

At some point you want Sark to out bid these colleges for studs.    But it’s hard to argue his recruiting success doing it his way 😒

Sark and co need to adapt just like they have every year. We have giant nil offers to contend with now. Not sure why it is necessary to say that its relationships with Chad Scott or whatever.  Kj Edwards doesn’t cancel his ov without incentive.
Jalen Lott would be coached in an elite offense with an elite qb at Texas. there is no reason Texas should lose to USC with this legacy recruitment. USC is just throwing money at the elite kids and it’s producing commitments. Texas is doing great with some rooms but not well at others.  They’ll end up with a great class I’m sure.

His sister being on the track team gives USC a huge advantage and another sister playing basketball at UNLV helps with travel for family

USC is the national men's track and field champion.  Oregon is a perennial contender in T&F.

Texas currently is neither.

Having kids at the same is big which their mom loves.

Chris Jackson did a great job with the visit.

So, then the million (maybe multi million) dollar question. Are the NIL figures being thrown around absolutely ridiculous for these kids?

Is it that Texas just isn’t willing to play ball? I get not wanting overpay, but at a certain point the strategy there may have to change. I trust Sark, same thing happened last year.

I get what you are trying to say but Texas is spending $30+ million on their roster this year. People trying to question if they are “willing to play ball” is tiring.

You can’t say you understand not wanting to overpay then turnaround and say but I kind of want them to overpay.

I’m thinking more so in terms of house settlement. Just wondering if maybe the strategy changed with the approval and they aren’t willing to throw out those figures as much because there isn’t much clarity yet about what is legal and what’s not.

Mom likes the idea of two kids going to the same school is big advantage for USC. Sister is on the track team.

If that’s truly what it is then so be it. Tip your cap where it’s due. Still time to make up ground either way.

Same old song and dance, right @Gerry Hamilton? The OG’s around here oughta know by now, not to get their panties in a wad, kick the feet up, and relax until November. Same vibe last year, and I believe the 24’ cycle as well. Slow and steady, and by the time conference play starts, the class really starts to take shape. Hell, I thought last year Gerry might be a weed guy with his weekly “path to the #1 class” posts 😂 but obviously he knew way more than the rest of us

Seems like the market is shifting up again, fueled by uncertainty surrounding the House settlement. My guess is things will settle down, the season will unfold, and kids may be reevaluating June decisions come November/December. Just a guess.

This weekend for Turntine is huge. All of these guys seem to love Texas but have more enticing bags elsewhere. I think Texas is patient for a reason and as many have said save their gun powder for the long run. Reading culture fits when you bring them in for a weekend or two only goes so far. Understanding who they are behind the scenes when they communicate with staff is a whole new ball game. Texas plays their cards close to the chest, so no matter how frustrated we are, we will definitely be better off than most. Let Burnt Vegetables get all his horns down out in June, same for Tickle me elko
