Jeff Howe and I published an OnTexasBasketball video Friday. We had GASO's Blue Zertuche and Ryan Massad on to talk about top Texas targets in 2026 and 2027

Both of these guys are friends, and the entire GASO team truly does a great job covering and helping grow high school basketball in the state. They also run tournaments and events extremely well.

We talk Austin Goosby, Bo Ogden, Bryson Howard, Dawson Battie, Marcus Spears Jr., Reese Alston and Ryan Hampton

Appreciate this! Next couple of classes could be very exciting for Texas. Any word on the last roster spot that’s most likely going to be an International prospect this coming year for Texas?

Nothing new yet

For the LeBrick lovers out there, like CJ. Looking at all time stats. Kareem has a higher career free throw percentage than LeBrick. That's a 7'2" gangly center who is a better all around shooter than a 6'8" forward. Skill matters.

I get that you guys could've asked about a million prospects but I was hoping to also hear their thoughts on Beckham Black, Marri Wesley, Chase Richardson and Avery Huston.

Thanks Gerry! No one comes close to your coverage of Longhorn basketball recruiting.

I'm hoping we land Goosby, Ogden and either one of the PGs we are mentioned with or the PF Adkins.  I'm thinking we can afford three blue chip level players (Top 60) and even that might be stretching it.

The remaining spots will be filled once the season is over and we know who is leaving (NBA, graduation, transferring) with the transfer portal/international players

I thought the topic headline was Texas Hoops Recruiting Gays.

Well, nothing wrong with that but it is probably the smaller group of Division 1 ready players, and how do we know who they are, anyway?

So I read the article.

Glad Texas is fishing in a bigger pond and I will get my eyes checked.

I'm sure Tech will shell out several million for Battie.

They will shell out for pretty much every player they want. Going to be interesting to see if it works. They are in the top ten again in basketball. Toppin is back for another year.

I know Chase Richardson very well being a former Friendswood High player that is very close to the program.

Hes ascending quickly as a player/PG right now. Won’t surprise me if he ends up being a top 50-60 player in the class. There are 25’ish high-majors watching him in Rock Hill next week. A lot of head coaches

I’ve watched Avery Huston multiple times since the spring. Love where he is headed as a player. He should be a top 100 prospect (maybe top 75 or higher) in time.

For those wondering … my OnTexasBasketball in-state rankings for 2027 post TABC

Marcus Spears Jr. has the highest NBA upside down the line. Dawson Battie is what I call a “Final Four” player. Al Horford’lite

Reese Alston visited Overtime Elite last week. Second Baptist fighting to keep him

Im going to expand the state rankings to top 20 after July … a terrific class in-state right now, prior to guys leaving for national programs over time. Dynamic Prep should keep three of the best in state, Richardson will finish HS at Friendswood … so hopefully the state doesn’t lose as many in this cycle

Richardson is super twitched up athlete for those that haven’t seen him … his game is ascending big time right now.

Texas basketball recruiting is going to be almost as exciting as football recruiting is. Thanks for the update, Gerry!

Sean Miller is receiving very good feedback back from the AAU and coaching community in the state.

I have little doubt he will do very well at Texas. Terrific coach, and very focused on goals with the opportunity to complete a resume in next 6-8 years
