Please do not forget that Larry Johnson is an elite DL coach, a better DL coach than Knowles is a DC, and Knowles is a damn good DC. The reason Knowles left is because Penn State offered him $3M/year, which Ohio State was never going to match that, nor should they have. Quote

Knowles won the game against Texas, not Day or Kelly. That's why he left. Also, Larry Johnson expands the DL rotation based on how many guys he has that has earned playing team. If there are only one or two backups that are ready to play at a high level, there won’t be much rotation. Historically LJ prefers to rotate often, which early in his tenure made Buckeye fans mad because we didn’t want Joey Bosa or Chase Young, etc taken off the field. Quote
