Moderators CJ Vogel Posted 11 hours ago Moderators Posted 11 hours ago Doing some digging on how putrid the Texas running game has been this season and came across this statistic dating back to 2024. *** The last rush attempt by a Texas running back to reach 20 yards or more was Jerrick Gibson's 21-yard rush against Clemson in the 4th quarter of the 2024 College Football Playoff round one game. Texas has had 142 rush attempts by running backs since their last 20 yard rush. 20 yards is obviously a big play. So what about 15 yards? Well, in their last 142 rush attempts, the Texas Longhorns have ONE rush attempt eclipsing 15 yards on the ground. That was an 18-yard run by CJ Baxter against San Jose State. 1 Quote
Moderators CJ Vogel Posted 11 hours ago Author Moderators Posted 11 hours ago Those 142 rushing attempts have gone for an average of 3.75 yards per rush. In 2025, that rushing average specifically from running backs sits at 4.29 yards per rush. Quote
LonghornFan4Ever Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Doubt that will change this season unless Wisner, Simon, or Clark break a big one in conference play. Sark has to hit the portal hard and find a guy at RB, even with Derrek Cooper coming in. Not sure if the run blocking is something that can be fixed and it is what it is at this point. Quote
Thisrowyellssorry Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I want to say James Simon had two runs in the 13-14 range last game. Yes that is an awful stat, I want to say brighter days are ahead at least with Wisner and Simon in rotation. Was really, REALLY impressed with that game 1 out of Simon. 1 Quote
Breezey A LH4LIFE Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago @CJ Vogelwho do you want to see at RB next game? I want to see more Simon. Quote
drag worm Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) Remember the great debates of the Dark Decade where we questioned whether it was coaching or players? And that you shouldn’t have to sign a five star RB to get better run game production against UTEP? I’m having those feelings again. We shouldn’t need Derick Cooper to run for more chunk yards against UTEPs defense, and yet I find myself saying I’m not surprised because all we have are decent but not elite running backs on campus. harveycmd Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Is CJ a closet criminal sooner? Guy doesn't know what to say when, but he's a twenty something telling us some weird stat. Great job goober. Remind me of Switzer. 1 Quote
AusMOJO Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Is this not on Coach Choice and Coach Sark for lacking of elite recruiting at RB? Poor evaluations/development? I mean, don't get me wrong Wisner is good but he isn't elite. We have no speed at RB, no elite game changer there. That is a problem and it should not be. Plus the run blocking is okay but leaves a lot to be desired. For several years we've had a lack of push up front. Too much finesse/thinking and not enough beat your ass and get you to the dirt, so to speak. When was the last time we really saw an OL at Texas maul somebody up front? '23 Bama game, maybe? 3 Quote
f1revo Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 2022 OL class ended up underwhelming in a major way, and that's with a top 10 pick. 2 Quote

Dawnpatrol75 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago CJ, this picture is our run game in a nutshell. Hell it’s our offense in a nutshell. It starts upfront. How does this happen vs a team like UTEP. I question the athletic ability of our OLine. 4 1 1 1 1 Quote
Tex CJ-7 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Explosive runs are a product of wide receiver / downfield blocking. OL can get you to and through the second level then it’s up to those guys. How many WR screens have been blown up this year, already? 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Quote
MarkInAustin Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago The OL's pass protection has been generally good. This was true last season, as well. I don't understand football well enough to understand how a decent pass blocking line is also a poor run blocking line. I have been led to believe [here] that Neto is a good run blocker but missed assignments as a pass blocker. Am I incorrect in having observed Stroh pass block well and run block poorly? That was what I saw on limited viewing. Is run blocking also a question of OL group assignment soundness, or is it a matter of pure strength and quickness? I hope someone here can explain. Quote

Jbro52 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Our run game this time last years couldn’t have been any better Quote
Philip Barber Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The problem with this team is upfront. They make OU’s look all SEC, and we know they are not. What has Flood wrought? What happened to the weight room? The lack of real talent upfront is glaring or is it the lack of development? Is D.J. even a draft prospect? He looks no better than his freshman year. Sark and Flood missed it at Center. The wrong guy is there. Not sure who should be but not Hudson. They wasted a Spring and Fall practice and never figured that out. They can’t fix Arch because the parts around him are broken. Texas should have been able to run the ball against UTEP with running backs, not needing Arch to be the run game. Who in the hell did Choice turn down to get this running back room? I blame Sark for being enamored with Wingo. We needed another Mitchell, Bond or Golden type from the early portal period. No, he went through Spring and whatever they saw there made them go get Mosley. Looks like a little late. And he is no Singleton, Auburn, or Concepcion, Aggies, just to name a couple. It appears every SEC team except Kentucky on our schedule is ahead of us on the offensive side if the ball. Yes, we have a good defense with some depth, but we play some talented offenses, and they drive better with no brakes than we do. 1 Quote

Stupid us wanted a running QB, not a running back. Well. we got one, He isn’t slippery Mateer or Manizel type nor is he Josh Allen either. Since his confidence is shot to hell, the SEC will spy him and stop that. I wonder what all these insiders slipping info to the Mods of all these Texas boards really saw. Quote
