What would be the scenario to see Dry Rub Brisket either fired or off to the NFL? And assuming said “coach” is gone, does that potentially open Mark Bowman back up with a shot for the good guys @Gerry Hamilton, or was the money so high it wouldn’t mattered if they hired Billy Napier as the next coach, he’d still be going USC. Enrich my life so I know what to root for!!

PS. - teams dropping like flies today. Opens everything back up for Texas much easier but we need to see the SHSU offense week in and week out. I think we are damn near unbeatable if the O looks like that and the D continues with their upward trajectory. Also, it hasn’t been pretty, but at least our new “Ship”-ley hasn’t Bert Auburned us out of an SEC championship and national championship berth so fingers crossed, Hail Mary ✝️, whatever it takes!

Riley sucks and probably screwed up today by throwing to the endzone to take the lead with 1:55 still left.

That said, USC looks much improved on offense (their offense was actually the problem last year) and while the defensive backs are bad outside of Kamari Ramsey who didn’t play today, their defense forces turnovers and their pass rush is legit. The defense took a step back overall from last year but it won’t be felt because they can get to the quarterback and make splash turnover plays.

USC will likely be a 9ish win team. Sure, they could choke and go like 8-5 but I think they’ll be 9-4 or 10-3. Maiava, Lemon, Lane and Jordan are legit and the OL is really good.

My point is that Riley isn’t getting fired unless they lose 5+ games with a couple of embarrassing performances.

He’s not going to get fired because they will owe him like 80 million still

The SC defense is Swiss cheese gave up over 500 years to Illinois. Only reason why it was close was Illinois fumble twice near the end zone. Did you watch the game?  Illinois punted 1 time they either scored each on each possession or fumbled near the SC goal line

And that’s why I said “or leaves for the NFL.”

Not that pro franchise owners don't make weird decisions, but what has Riley done lately to suggest he'd succeed in the league?

And, why would a guy who fled the SEC for the Pac12 and easier recruiting want to go pro?

Now that I think about it, wouldn't his perfect job be Tech, if USC is happy to let him walk?

We’ll see where they end. But they do not play complementary football.

Two things.  One, Tech has a good chance to make the CFB Playoffs this season, so JV Joey isn’t likely to be going anywhere.

Two, if Tech does fire Maguire and wants to hire Lincoln Riley, all Cody Campbell needs to do is write a check for $70M+ and it’s done.  And Campbell has shown little reluctance to spend whatever it takes to get who he wants to Lubbock.

I saw Kliff Kingsbury hired by the Arizona Cardinals as head coach and he never accomplished half of what Riley did.  Not saying 'hire Riley', just doubling down on your comment about the strange decisions owners sometimes make.
