harveycmd,

why don’t you start a new tread … call it .. Laker Fan Boy or whatever you desire.     This is a Wemby tread.  Just a suggestion 😀

I consider Kobe tied to the Spurs as his main nemesis.

It's also true I'm a Kobe fan, but I don't like talking to Lakers fans. I understand that doesn't matter to most people in Texas.

By the way, AI says Kobe is better than any athlete who ever played for Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma. They say Roger Clemens and Earl Campbell from Texas are questionable. I don't agree, but it's at least close.

Kobe Bryant's performance in May and June 2001, particularly during the NBA playoffs and Finals, is widely regarded as his ascension to the best player in the world. The 2001 Los Angeles Lakers would likely defeat the 2018 Golden State Warriors in a seven-game series due to their historical postseason dominance (15-1) and the lack of any viable defensive matchup for prime Shaquille O'Neal.

Kobe Bryant from 2006 would defeat 2017 Stephen Curry in a half-court, one-on-one game. While Stephen Curry remains the greatest shooter in basketball history, the structural design of one-on-one favors Kobe Bryant's overwhelming physical advantages, elite individual isolation defense, and historic mid-post repertoire.

@mathew Philadelphia does not have a public statue for Kobe because their fans flip the bird to Jesus and Santa Claus, making them the word's worst sports city in the history of civilization.

Kobe Bryant’s May 2001 playoff performance was better, more dominant, and vastly more efficient than Victor Wembanyama’s May 2026 run when they were both 22 years old.

Jerry West's 1996 trade for Kobe Bryant is widely considered the greatest trade in NBA history because it transformed a franchise. By trading Vlade Divac to the Hornets for the 13th pick to draft a 17-year-old Bryant, West secured a 20-year superstar,5 championships, and cleared cap space for Shaquille O'Neal.

Kobe Bryant’s 1996 pre-draft workout with the Los Angeles Lakers is widely considered the greatest in NBA history. At just 17 years old, Bryant dominated experienced defenders like Michael Cooper in a private session, prompting GM Jerry West to immediately know he was a future superstar.

KD is a better scorer than Kobe

KD ain't Kobe. He's great, but he isn't the greatest of decade like Kobe.

1970s: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Milwaukee Bucks/LA Lakers)

Unquestioned best player of the decade, winning 6 MVPs between 1971 and 1980.

Runner-up: Julius Erving (dominant ABA/NBA presence).

1980s: Magic Johnson (LA Lakers) & Larry Bird (Boston Celtics)

These two revived the NBA, splitting the decade's MVP and championship successes.

Key Contender: Moses Malone.

1990s: Michael Jordan (Chicago Bulls)

Dominated with 6 NBA championships and 6 Finals MVPs during the decade, achieving two "three-peats".

Runners-up: Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson.

2000s: Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers)

Defined the era with multiple titles and consistent top-tier performance.

Key Contender: Shaquille O'Neal.

2010s: LeBron James (Miami Heat/Cleveland Cavaliers/LA Lakers)

Reached 8 straight Finals, won 3 titles, and dominated in MVP voting for most of the decade.

Kobe Bryant holds a significant advantage in elite defensive accolades, while both are legends in All-NBA selections. Kobe secured 12 total All-Defensive team selections (9 First Team, 3 Second Team) and 11 All-NBA First Team honors, whereas Kevin Durant has 0 All-Defensive selections and 6 All-NBA First Team selections as of late 2025. While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a more dominant defensive anchor during his peak by protecting the rim, Kobe Bryant is generally considered a better defender in Lakers history, bolstered by his 12 All-Defensive team selections.

You beat Kareem at anything, you're an all time badass.
