Good discussion IMO. Couple of thoughts: - Texas, institutionally, is far more engaged and prepared today than they were in '21. Texas was NOT ready for NIL at the beginning. They are now in the way that they want to be. The proof has been in the pudding. - Allegedly, what A&M and others did at the time was not above board and was what was said to have been prohibited. Texas wasn't going to go there like that. To your point, this is an ultra-fluid situation. New rules every minute or month. If you're CDC or Sark, how are you supposed to run an aircraft carrier when rules are changing so quickly? The key will be to adapt quickly. Texas now has more hands on deck than they did in 2021 but execution will still be the key.

Friday night non-conference games are really good. You get to see the best pitchers of some non-big name programs. The weekend games tend to get a bit sloppy. We'll see what Cal Poly has left in the tank.

I think guys like David Gbenda are awesome stories. He probably came in to the program with a little too much hype. But he settled in and started becoming the best player he could become. It didn't happen over night and it didn't necessarily happen as naturally for him as it has others (like Anthony Hill or Jaylan Ford). But despite the obstacles, he's continued to work hard, continued to represent the Longhorns with pride, etc. I'm a big believer in him and what he stands for. Now, that doesn't mean he is all of a sudden an all-conference linebacker. But he definitely can be part of the solution for the Horns in 2024.

In the immediate aftermath of the NCAA ruling on the legality of utilizing NIL as a means of inducement and recruiting yesterday afternoon, I reached out to a couple of folks within the Texas NIL Infrastructure. There are two prevailing thoughts: First and foremost, Texas is going to speak with its own NCAA compliance officials and receive some guidance. This ruling is ultra-new. So while it would be easy to just say the old rules don't matter anymore, Texas is going to make sure of the nuances of the ruling, what they mean, and what proper next steps are. There will be lawyers involved in that discussion. Second, it will absolutely change how "some" of the recruiting process works. But not the core of it, at least not at Texas. Texas coaches will still be the ones offering scholarships, still be the ones recruiting the players, etc. However, In light of the pervasiveness of the ruling, other programs may choose an entirely different tack. The leader of the Tennessee collective is apparently saying that he plans to send financial offers out to players beginning next week. So where does this leave us? College football seems to be headed ever closer to a true open market. If so, Texas with all its resources, revenue and fan support will be just fine. View full news

They said nothing about transfer restrictions so I'm not sure where gets that. Unless someone can correct me...

A federal judge has temporarily stopped the NCAA from enforcing its rules restricting member schools from using NIL to recruit student-athletes. On Texas Football has been told that three Texas players have been limited in off-season workouts: - Tight end Amari Niblack - Wide receiver Matthew Golden - Defensive end Colton Vasek Niblack is dealing with a foot injury. Like Niblack, Matthew Golden has also been in a boot for much of this off-season. Vasek is dealing with an ankle injury. None of the injuries are expected to keep players out long-term. ** From an incoming transfer perspective, I am told one player has really stood out -- Trey Moore. Moore, who recorded 14.5 sacks for UTSA last year, has worked at both SAM and Buck for the Horns in winter conditioning. But it's not his versatility that has folks talking. "He's a pro," a source told me. "He's in outstanding shape. He goes about his business (the right way). He has a real presence about him. It's almost Roschon (Johnson) like." Moore is somewhat undersized for the position based on an NFL prototype, but "he's more athletic than you even see on tape. He's been even better than what I think we expected." Completely agree with that. Lake Travis deemed those actions worthy of a 3 game suspension. Yet we have people hundred of miles removed from that thinking it should be more. Again, I’m not saying what is right and wrong, I’m just trying to point out that Cordova has no voice in his defense.

Lake Travis coaches are doing so. Again, why are people who are close to the situation (like Lake Travis, its teachers and faculty) reacting so differently than the media and people who are much farther away?

Hey Coach, This is kind of what I'm getting at. For instance, Texas does not have a single player on its roster from Lake Travis, not even a walk-on according to the latest roster. I think the players are being swayed by the interview the mom gave, not anything they know first hand. Or maybe they are, and I'm just off base completely. It just seems to me that Cordova is being painted as this horrible guy and he hasn't said a single word. And in fact, the only thing we actually have as fact is that the school didn't see this as something that was worth kicking him off the team or out of school. Privately, the coaches at Lake Travis do not feel Cordova is a bad kid either; they actually think he's a really good kid who made a bad decision, who turned himself in beforehand, tried to right his wrong ahead of time and has since done whatever has been asked of him and is a team leader. Again, that doesn't make the initial action right or absolve him from consequences. It's just interesting that this is so one-sided when Cordova and the school aren't saying anything.
