  1. Join Gerry, Rod and I tonight from about 7:10-8:15 or so. We’ll talk Horns, recruiting, and more. https://youtube.com/live/MNaYMpsnB6Q View full news
  2. There are sites out there that have the info. But I don’t know if any have that in a database that would be easy to mine for all of the data.
  3. Haven’t watched the video yet but certain positions are difficult for recruiting analysts. Like linebacker, I think corner and is tougher too.
  4. Not sure how they’re going to be able to do that. But there’s probably a large amount of $$$ at stake for them.
  5. Nothing new on Tapp, Gullette or the DLs as yet.
  6. True. But still better than I thought.
  7. Much better recruiter than I initially gave him credit for when hired. No doubt about that. Gerry and I were both hoping he could just hold serve in recruiting. He's been much, much better than that.
  8. If you want to see the new Yeti Yard in leftfield, fast forward to about the 6 minute mark. Grand Slam!
  9. Champions are made in the off-season. The off-season doesn't grab many headlines, and it's not always pretty. A lot of hard work, early morning workouts, increased and improved attention to detail, growth (physically and mentally), tinkering with the personnel and schemes, self-scouting and opponent scouting, it's all part of the process. The right emphasis placed on the off-season pays untold dividends when the season comes. I feel like Steve Sarkisian and his staff nailed last year's off-season; there's no doubt in my mind that the seeds of the 2023 Big 12 championship were planted last winter, during this very same time period we're in now. I spoke with Bryan Erwin about the topic for this morning's Saturday Conversation, and I think it's something all folks will want to listen to who care about the ins and outs of what's going on not only for the players but also for the coaches. ** True freshman receiver Ryan Wingo, edge Colin Simmons and safety Xavier FIlsaime continue to be singled out behind the scenes for their really strong work. Wingo has been cut from different cloth. And that is coming from multiple sources. Mentioning Wingo like this will undoubtedly mean fans think he should be ready to roll this spring. But we all have to remember, no matter how talented they are and what these young players are showing right now, they all have to acclimate to college football once the pads come on and the speed of the overall game changes. That being said, Wingo, Simmons and Filsaime are showing some ability and pluck early. ** I also heard another name recently that seems to be impressing -- tight end Jordan Washington. Washington's skill set is much different than the other young tight ends - Spencer Shannon and Will Randle - so that admittedly could be part of it. It's something that bears watching. It was the first time his name has come up this off-season. ** I am told that two of the younged offensive lineman have made strong pushes so far this off-season - Trevor Goosby and Jayden Chatman. ** Another class of 2023 member that continues to gain notoriety behind the scenes is Warren Roberson. The cornerback has been highly regarded for his athleticism almost since he arrived in Austin a year ago. But we didn't see him much at all last season. Yet folks still hold him in very high regard. This could be the year where we see him break through.

  11. Coach White told us he had more pitching this year. Apparently, he's correct.
  12. I sat down with Coach Bryan Erwin for a discussion about what Texas - the players and coaches - will be working on over the next 31 days until spring ball. Bryan's always got a unique perspective.

  14. Pinning this. Watch the video if you have the time. Really, really well done. And it might restore a little faith in humanity along the way.
  15. Gerry, nice scoop on the twins! Had not even really heard of them before this morning.
  16. Jim Harbaugh may have better answers than me. 😉 Most concerning would be portal tampering to me.
  17. There’s depth to the department, too, IMO.
  18. That is happening as we speak. Talked to someone about that this morning. More will be announced soon.
  19. 7-6 last year and beat Utah State in Bowl game. The haves and have nots are officially separating IMO.
  20. I don’t agree with that. She created the backbone of that department in many ways. Some of her hires definitely fell flat, but the infrastructure remains and that allows for new coaches to prosper and utilize the resources of the university. I’m no one’s apologist here. But I think she was too often an easy out for people to point to when things weren’t going as planned.
  21. If you listened to the Town Hall meeting of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte on Tuesday night, you realize just how many talented people work alongside Del Conte to make Texas athletics the best in the country. I felt like it would be informative to give a little more background info on those folks and exactly what they do. Drew Martin - If it has to do with marketing and game-day experience, Drew Martin is the person whose fingerprints are all over it. Martin also helps manage and oversee third party agreements with media behemoths like Learfield and William Morris Endeavor. Chris Plonsky - Plonsky was once the women's athletic director, but when CDC was hired, Texas unified the athletic department into one outfit for both men and women. CDC, however, did not clip the wings of Plonsky in the process. Instead, she has continued to help build Texas women's athletics into the juggernaut it is and CDC gives her due credit in the process. Andrew Hamor - One of the leads of the Longhorn Foundation, Hamor helps CDC find the funds for various athletic department projects. While CDC is the forward facing fundraiser for the athletic department, Hamor is someone almost every major Longhorn donor knows. Ricky Brown - The former fullback for Ricky Williams is one of the heads of outreach from the athletic department to former players. Shawn Eichorst - He's the deputy. Eichorst is CDC's right-hand man, the "glue" that keeps it all together. The former Nebraska AD is a voice of experience that CDC can count on. Sarah Baumgardner - Baumgardner works directly with Texas coaches to fix issues that arise on a daily basis. She works hand-in-hand with CDC. Fernando Lovo - All those pretty new facilities and their functionality? That's Lovo's job, to execute the vision, work with the general contractors, architects, and the university, to make sure it all comes out to plan. Rob Novak - The CFO of Texas athletics. He makes sure the money is there, not just for next month, but for large projects well into the future. While CDC is a gifted administrator and fundraiser, the success of Texas athletics is far from a one-man show, and that's something CDC would tell you himself, and why he mentioned the folks above during his speech on Tuesday night. Hats off to all of those who help make Texas athletics the best program in the country.
