What Constitutes Success For Texas
Bobby Burton replied to watty7796's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I’m in the 9+ win range annually. It’s possible that ups to 10+ annually. I’m just not there yet. I want to see the Horns play a year in the SEC first. -
What Constitutes Success For Texas

Man, that’s a tough ask. Not saying you’re wrong, just the expectation level is super high. -

Nine Game SEC Conference Schedule with and Eye Toward OU
Bobby Burton replied to harveycmd's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The SEC won’t get rid of Texas-OU or Texas-A&M. I know people think it might look like it, but there are other schools similarly situated. Alabama will always play Auburn and Tennessee every year. -
Monday: NIL & Schedule Notes
Bobby Burton replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I think there are several factors at play. First, winning helps. People like to contribute to winners Second, NIL is no longer “new”. We’re now a couple years in. Three, I think your characterization of where Texas was and where Texas is going is accurate. Early adopters have helped Texas an immeasurable amount. Now One Fund is providing more ways for folks to get involved. -
A little bit of NIL news from behind the scenes. The Texas One Fund continues to put its best foot forward to raise NIL funds for Texas student-athletes. I'm told the group is working on a major charity gala set for mid-May. And the venue will be... DKR. The actual field itself. Chris Del Conte began reaching out to major donors late last week. ** Speaking of the One Fund, the group is beginning to attract the interest of a few companies for sponsorships, among them Benchmark Bank, Covert Auto Group and Ticket City. Hat tip to those companies for their sponsorships. One Fund is doing a nice job of reaching out to multiple levels of fandom IMO. Whether it's corporate sponsorships, tailgates at the Sugar Bowl like the one at Manning's (thanks Rick!), or cultivating large donors in unique ways like the gala mentioned above, it's nice to see all Texas fans pulling in one direction when it comes to creating better teams. ** At the town hall last week, Chris Del Conte was asked about whether or not he would be scheduling Big 12 opponents for football in the future. Del Conte stopped short of saying no. But he articulated the theory that it's unlikely the Horns will play any Big 12 teams unless those teams are willing to only play in DKR. The Horns would be unlikely to play any home-and-home series with any Big 12 team. And therein lies the rub. Texas won't be playing any Big 12 teams, unless it's in a bowl game or the CFP. ** His prerogative not to schedule Big 12 opponents should not be taken as a desire to lighten the non-conference schedule overall. Del Conte is telling folks that the Horns should be playing the Ohio States, Michigans and Notre Dames in non-conference play moving forward and will look to schedule such teams well into the future.

There are sites out there that have the info. But I don’t know if any have that in a database that would be easy to mine for all of the data.- 1 reply

Not sure how they’re going to be able to do that. But there’s probably a large amount of $$$ at stake for them.

Nothing new on Tapp, Gullette or the DLs as yet.

True. But still better than I thought.

Much better recruiter than I initially gave him credit for when hired. No doubt about that. Gerry and I were both hoping he could just hold serve in recruiting. He's been much, much better than that.

Champions are made in the off-season. The off-season doesn't grab many headlines, and it's not always pretty. A lot of hard work, early morning workouts, increased and improved attention to detail, growth (physically and mentally), tinkering with the personnel and schemes, self-scouting and opponent scouting, it's all part of the process. The right emphasis placed on the off-season pays untold dividends when the season comes. I feel like Steve Sarkisian and his staff nailed last year's off-season; there's no doubt in my mind that the seeds of the 2023 Big 12 championship were planted last winter, during this very same time period we're in now. I spoke with Bryan Erwin about the topic for this morning's Saturday Conversation, and I think it's something all folks will want to listen to who care about the ins and outs of what's going on not only for the players but also for the coaches. ** True freshman receiver Ryan Wingo, edge Colin Simmons and safety Xavier FIlsaime continue to be singled out behind the scenes for their really strong work. Wingo has been cut from different cloth. And that is coming from multiple sources. Mentioning Wingo like this will undoubtedly mean fans think he should be ready to roll this spring. But we all have to remember, no matter how talented they are and what these young players are showing right now, they all have to acclimate to college football once the pads come on and the speed of the overall game changes. That being said, Wingo, Simmons and Filsaime are showing some ability and pluck early. ** I also heard another name recently that seems to be impressing -- tight end Jordan Washington. Washington's skill set is much different than the other young tight ends - Spencer Shannon and Will Randle - so that admittedly could be part of it. It's something that bears watching. It was the first time his name has come up this off-season. ** I am told that two of the younged offensive lineman have made strong pushes so far this off-season - Trevor Goosby and Jayden Chatman. ** Another class of 2023 member that continues to gain notoriety behind the scenes is Warren Roberson. The cornerback has been highly regarded for his athleticism almost since he arrived in Austin a year ago. But we didn't see him much at all last season. Yet folks still hold him in very high regard. This could be the year where we see him break through.

Coach White told us he had more pitching this year. Apparently, he's correct.

I sat down with Coach Bryan Erwin for a discussion about what Texas - the players and coaches - will be working on over the next 31 days until spring ball. Bryan's always got a unique perspective.
