They said nothing about transfer restrictions so I'm not sure where gets that. Unless someone can correct me...

A federal judge has temporarily stopped the NCAA from enforcing its rules restricting member schools from using NIL to recruit student-athletes. In other words, players can now negotiate and sign their NIL before enrolling at a specific school and schools and collectives can use NIL as a recruiting inducement. https://theathletic.com/5295907/2024/02/23/tennessee-ncaa-nil-lawsuit-injunction/?redirected=1&source=user_shared_article&access_token=222208

Bobby comment on coffee today about the ncaa

Let's worry about costs of "decorating" hotel rooms. Of all the things to discuss, that just makes no sense. You think any other sports league would bother with such a rule? -

They make more rules that don't matter than anyone I know. -

Friday: Workout Notes (Trey Moore Truly Impressing)
Bobby Burton replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Apparently it's an ankle one now. -
Some behind the scenes notes from workouts... On Texas Football has been told that three Texas players have been limited in off-season workouts: - Tight end Amari Niblack - Wide receiver Matthew Golden - Defensive end Colton Vasek Niblack is dealing with a foot injury. Like Niblack, Matthew Golden has also been in a boot for much of this off-season. Vasek is dealing with an ankle injury. None of the injuries are expected to keep players out long-term. ** From an incoming transfer perspective, I am told one player has really stood out -- Trey Moore. Moore, who recorded 14.5 sacks for UTSA last year, has worked at both SAM and Buck for the Horns in winter conditioning. But it's not his versatility that has folks talking. "He's a pro," a source told me. "He's in outstanding shape. He goes about his business (the right way). He has a real presence about him. It's almost Roschon (Johnson) like." Moore is somewhat undersized for the position based on an NFL prototype, but "he's more athletic than you even see on tape. He's been even better than what I think we expected." Of all the transfers, Moore has hit the ground running as well or better than any of them. "He's a stud," the source said. ** I also asked about the early returns of Arizona transfer defensive tackle Tioalli Savea. And it's positive. "I think he's a better version of Trill Carter," the source said. "He's going to have a role." ** Lots of freshman are impressing, and I'll go over those in a different post over the weekend. One to talk about today who continues to draw rave reviews is safety Xavier Filsaime. What is there to like about him? Beyond his speed and size combination, I'm told there's a little something extra. "His demeanor is just really good," the source said. "He approaches things, he listens, he gets after. He's got the skill, there's no doubt about that. But when they're young like this, and they've got all of that (talent), and they're still getting after it mentally, that's when you say, 'ok, he might be a little something special here'." ** We'll have team notes over the weekend.

Thursday: The Hire of Chris Gilbert - What It Means
Bobby Burton replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Glasscock has a different skill set than either Harris or Gilbert. But I see what you're saying and I understand how Sark is attacking it. -
He is using his NIL, too. He just signed a deal with Hargrove Roofing!

Hey Coach, This is kind of what I'm getting at. For instance, Texas does not have a single player on its roster from Lake Travis, not even a walk-on according to the latest roster. I think the players are being swayed by the interview the mom gave, not anything they know first hand. Or maybe they are, and I'm just off base completely. It just seems to me that Cordova is being painted as this horrible guy and he hasn't said a single word. And in fact, the only thing we actually have as fact is that the school didn't see this as something that was worth kicking him off the team or out of school. Privately, the coaches at Lake Travis do not feel Cordova is a bad kid either; they actually think he's a really good kid who made a bad decision, who turned himself in beforehand, tried to right his wrong ahead of time and has since done whatever has been asked of him and is a team leader. Again, that doesn't make the initial action right or absolve him from consequences. It's just interesting that this is so one-sided when Cordova and the school aren't saying anything.
-
Cost of college coaches will continue to rise IMO for a multitude of factors. It won't be about more work, NIL, etc. It's going to be about revenue. The more revenue, the more the coaches who win will make.

Easiest answer of all time. Neither.

Thursday: The Hire of Chris Gilbert - What It Means
Bobby Burton replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Let me ask around. -
That is not all of what I was told happened. After Cordova allegedly was told that, I was told that that's when Cordova went and tried to clean up the locker before anything would happen. That seems to be an important distinction. Is that the truth? I don't know for sure. I'm merely passing along what I was told, which is no different than 99-percent of other people are doing here. How well was the locker cleaned up? Again I don't know. However, I was told that Lake Travis and school officers investigated the incident thoroughly and did not feel it rose to the level of anything other than what they did. If Cordova or his friend literally tried to kill somebody through any means - bullying or what have you - he'd be in jail (or awaiting trial). Look, I really don't have a dog in this hunt. But folks trying to pushing this one way or the other without specific first-hand knowledge of the incident and all of the nuances of it - and from both sides - I think are rushing to judgement. And I'm not sure Cordova has had or will have his chance to speak his piece publicly so I'd caution anyone to think they know and have heard it all. My point being, there are two sides to this story, maybe three if you include the school district, and only one is really being told right now. Lake Travis and Cordova aren't saying anything, one is probably not going to say anything because a lawyer said not to and the other because it's a student matter and they are not able to speak publicly on it. None of this absolves Cordova, far be it. But it's food for thought for those who are quick to condemn without more information.

Thursday: The Hire of Chris Gilbert - What It Means
Bobby Burton replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
No clue yet. -
It's a big surprise that Chris Gilbert is returning to Austin. But it's with little surprise that his title will be Special Assistant to the Head Coach. It's a key role that signals Gilbert will be leaned on for not only his recruiting acumen and connections state-wide but also his understanding of how the big picture works for Steve Sarkisian and Texas football, i.e. how the sausage gets made. The title is a credit to Gilbert and all of what he brings to the table. Before leaving for North Texas a year ago, Gilbert had held the role of Director of High School Relations for Texas. Yet during his time in Austin, he wasn't just responsible for outreach to high school coaches for the Longhorns. Gilbert was heavily involved in the recruiting department, making sure the Horns knew the ins and outs of every recruitment in South Dallas and other areas of the state. While working hand in hand with new general manager Brandon Harris and former head of player personnel Billy Glasscock, he also created friendships everywhere in the athletic department. Gilbert was liked and respected by players and coaches alike. To put it frankly, his reach exceeded his grasp in short order. Fast forward to today and I think there's a special opportunity for Gilbert in Austin. After losing Glasscock to Ole Miss a month ago, Sarkisian's move to pursue and hire Gilbert makes a lot of sense. In Gilbert, Sark gets someone with loads of institutional knowledge. That knowledge allows Gilbert to hit the ground running at a time when recruiting is set to take center stage. It also gives the Horns needed another experienced person in an off-field support role for Sarkisian and the program following Glasscock's departure. And all of this matters because... The Horns can not let anything derail this window of opportunity. Hiring someone like Gilbert helps do exactly that. A great football program is never built by any one person. It's built by a collection of people who know what they're doing, who know how to get things done, and can do them well. Chris Gilbert is one of those people.
