I would point out that it is not to UT’s advantage for folks to be saying what price UT will go up to, etc. If you know it, good for you, but keep it to yourself. Let’s keep the opacity in the market to Texas’ advantage. Philosophically, UT does not want to get into pure NIL bidding wars. It buys kids who often detract from the culture. Leave those for Tech, Miami, Florida, whoever.
A team can handle a few takers, but a team full of givers and transactional personalities are much easier to build a culture on. According to every source I have spoken to, NIL bidding wars tend to center around takers. Most kids want something fair and near their market value. It’s not top dollar.
The truth is that we could use a couple of more million dollars of NIL. What Arkansas is doing is amazing. I wish we had the money to do that, but I am not 100% sure how sustainable that is, as I hear it’s coming from one or two guys. UT has done a nice job of making TexasOne more broad based.
Right now, I am sure Tech and TCU are saying that they beat us….Let them say that. Let them have their victory.
