    The NCAA exists only to preserve the interest of its members, the educational institutions. It has no regard for the student athlete other than to make them subservient to the interests of its member institutions. It is a failed entity for the student athletes. Now many are not even technically students anymore.

    Makes sense, I guess. I think Gus always had Texas in the cooler night game because the next game for the winners was the Saturday night game then Sunday night if you won a again. I should have added to my Pepperdine post that there was no Super Regionals in those days but there were a few 6 team regionals in the later yesrs.

    Never had COVID yet, and I am too old for the Murphy anyway. Never had polio, mumps, pertussis, smallpox, diphtheria nor hepatitis either. I believe in modern inoculation big time!!

    I remember when Pepperdine came here for a regional. Texas could not hit an 80 mph curve ball for shizzle. Everyone in the stands was shouting "Wait!, wait!, wait!" to no avail. Arizona beat PU to go to the CWS and won it all that year. I remember seeing Swindell under the 3rd base beachers when Texas lost its 2nd game to Pepperdine. He really wanted to pitch that day but needed at least one more day of rest.

    There was one other play in that game that might been even more important. A little before that Bill Burnett(?) had broken deep and was blowing by Freddy Steinmark when Freddy tackled him for a pass interference penalty instead of a sure TD. I think it was Freddy's last play as a Longhorn as one of his legs was removed as cancerous a week later. Texas would not have won if Arkansas had scored that TD. There would have been no ND in the Cotton Bowl to beat for DKR 's 2nd Natty. 🤘🏻🤘🏼🤘🤘🏽🤘🏾🤘🏿

    Have to note the later Beach Boys after Pet Sounds and in particular the Sloop John B. Not an original by them, but the definitive version for sure. I think Al Jarrel had to convince Brian Wilson to record it. Then the perfect God Only Knows and the islands themed Kokomo.

    Banana Republic by Steve Goodman, although most will remember it when he played with Jimmy Buffet. Steve was on ACL a couple of times so those are on YT. Also any Cubs fan will be familiar with his baseball songs.
