  1. If I was on the selection committee I would leave the conference out of the playoff for stupidity.
  2. Just don’t get him started on his dunking claim.
  3. I know he averaged 15 points a game, but I am quite sure there was a game when Abe said “Congratulations you scored one more point than a dead man!”
  4. All basketball fans should check that out. I remember him well. Hard not to remember him.
  5. Ivey has been out there for a while. The lack of knowing the coaches in Texas is usually the argument against it. He played at the school, played and coached in the NBA. Most players want to be in the NBA. I do think there would be more support as well. TJ and KD would be all in for sure. Would need assistance with deep Texas recruiting ties.
  6. He doesn’t have Toppin. I do agree all coaches are responsible for what we see on the court.
  7. Yeah he is. But my response about the post was to explain why certain people with questionable past won’t be considered because of Beard. I am watching games and then coming to my own conclusions. Honestly I don’t really pay any attention to Beard unless somebody brings him up. Don’t really follow Barnes or Smart either. I focus on the current Texas coach.
  8. I am supporting a coach and team. Will do the same if another coach comes in. To answer what you highlighted I don’t think in the NIL world and the SEC conference it’s possible to win at a level I want. I would like to get to a final four, elite eight and some sweet sixteens. So yeah I want a lot. I don’t think Texas will ever send enough money to compete with bluebloods of basketball no matter the coach. I would like Texas to look a lot like Alabama. I agree on poor roster construction. They have no point guard and no center. Texas had a center but wouldn’t match Texas Tech price. How’s that RT’s fault or any coaches fault for that? They have no identity? I agree with that. How do you build a culture when players can leave on a yearly basis? Players don’t even have to go to college, they can go overseas. You can declare after one year, which is different from football and baseball. My defense of RT would be the same no matter the coach. I don’t know how you can field a top ten team on four or four and a half million. Particularly when other schools in the SEC can offer more. Would love to be wrong. I want Texas to win. Don’t care if I am right or wrong. Appreciate the response to my questions.
  9. You’re missing the fact that Beard was arrested for domestic violence and CDC asked for his resignation that day. I think all Bierce is saying is CDC will be super concerned about blemishes on a new coaches past. That can’t happen twice.
  10. I answered your questions so I have a couple for you. What are your thoughts on the program? And how do you fix whatever problems exist? What I think a lot of us miss is that looking to the past really doesn’t help. The big reason is that NIL did not exist back then. Finding a coach that can do more with less was doable pre NIL and pre portal. Can that work now? Keep in mind there is going to be a roster turnover every year. Further Texas is on a budget( See Toppin). And it’s hard to create a culture when you have a revolving door on players. To make it even harder you can go pro after one year or skip college all together and play overseas. So we can’t use football as a model.
  11. Pay Toppin and there is no front court problem. Completely agree on point guards.
  12. I saw two wins when conference started. I thought A&M because no fans were there and they never really made any noise until A&M started to pull away in the second half. I also thought Tennessee was the other win. Barnes has a tendency to let Texas stick around. He did exactly that, Texas just couldn’t finish.
  13. I haven’t understood that since I joined the site.
  14. My apologies. Remember you from 247
  15. I am not sitting around I am watching games. You saw Bobby’s post about the football stars turning down more money right? Money didn’t magically appear there, and football is supported.
  16. Did you see my responses about the team quitting? The other day I commented on a remark he said to reporters that sounded awful to me. Which teams are you talking about? In the SEC? Do they have a sustained success over the last three years?
  17. Injured and it could be a while before he comes back.
  18. Not sure who that is. Tre took up most of the NIL. Texas is at four million or four and a half million this year. Texas first targeted Storr from Wisconsin. He was interested but his price was too high, and he wanted to stay in the draft He took two million from Kansas and pulled out of the draft. Tre was at one and a half million. So up his to two million to match Storr. Well that’s four million. You are either out of money, or have five hundred thousand to give to the rest of the team.
  19. Not sure who said that. Getting a good coach certainly is possible. Dealing with the low NIL and lack of fan support and the overall lack of full support of the program will get you tournament appearance and if we are lucky an occasional sweet sixteen appearance. I want more than that. So essentially you get Tom Penders. Any coach worth his salt will want a higher NIL. You can’t win in the SEC consistently without it.
  20. I know, and you are a good poster. Nothing wrong with giving your take. I am frustrated as well.
  21. Always respect your opinion. Please keep sharing your thoughts. All basketball fans should be welcomed.
  22. Did Barnes have sold out arenas during his glory days? No Did he have to get a camera installed to see who wasn’t showing up on the lower level? Yes Did fans travel? No Texas was more involved then versus the one year Beard was here. Barnes had plenty of arena’s rocking and it still wasn’t enough. And his record dwarfs Beards by a thousand miles.
  23. I always believe anything is possible if Texas basketball NIL is based on reality. Right now the Texas one fund is low and football fans are stepping up. Bobby mentioned today that numerous players took less money to stay. That’s a sign of their culture. It’s a shocking statement for basketball fans though. The NIL may be reduced. RT hasn’t had the time to set a firm culture to allow players to take less when others offer more. Throw the portal in which means anyone can leave at anytime and it gets even more difficult.
  24. He does an assessment at the end of the year. Will have to see how they finish and CDC can go off that. No point in making a move if all they are interested in is getting to the tournament and giving football fans some time to waste until football comes around again.
