Johntay Cook needs some major help
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Drunk randoke's topic in On Texas Football Forum
When I wrote "Clemson" I was thinking of Deshaun Watson with his $230 million fully guaranteed contract ... -
Just checked on the half-rack in my back yard and I think the small ones are probably 5 lbs, so 505 lbs total? Here are pics I just took of the 45 + 25, then the 45 + 10 + 5 on my bar. I know the plate size can vary a lot, the commercial gym I use has Rogue plates where the 10 lb plate is the same diameter as a 45 lb plate, but for just 'normal' weights I'd guess 5 lb

Texas Offers Son of NFL K Martin Gramatica
ArizonaLonghorn replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
When I see the name "Gramatica" I think of Bill (this recruit's uncle) kicking a FG for the Arizona Cardinals, leaping into the air and tearing a ligament in his knee on the landing and missing the rest of the season. I know a lot of you guys here complain about the Dallas Cowboys but if you had to watch the Arizona Cardinals the past many years you'd appreciate the Boys a little more π -
Looks like just over 500 lbs perhaps? 10 x 45 + 45 for the bar + 2x the smaller (5 or 10lb) plate ?

Mel Kiper's Position Rankings Updated
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The screen grab below is from the Consensus Mock Draft site, which seems to be pretty accurate for the first round anyway in recent seasons. It agrees with the 11 on Kiper's list and the three you mention aren't currently making the cut. Note that it includes guys who are coming back (T. Moore, Burke, Campbell for Texas, probably hundreds total). Blue - # 476, even with omission of the guys who are returning he seems a likely UDFA Broughton - # 245. Has him listed as UDFA but with the supplementary picks there are 256 taken so he could be a 7th rounder Gbenda - # 274 so could ease into 7th round but seen as a UDFA Full list of Texas players -
What I Would Change About On Texas Football

As long as they don't go Jeffrey Toobin on us (look up 'Toobin zoom') I personally am not offended by anything they do or do not wear -
What I Would Change About On Texas Football
ArizonaLonghorn replied to KlondikeMike's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Add # 4 to your list ... we insist on accurate usage of the word "infrequent" !!! (jk, but once you start the list you make yourself a target for any little slip from here on out ) -
My biggest surprise? Michael Taaffe has a Lambo and Arch doesn't. "I'm not a Lambo guy." I think I like him even more now. Red Bull >> Dr. Pepper

Opendorse has probably the most detailed info on this. Most of the juicy details are behind a paywall but some info leaks out. There is no requirement that all 'deals' be public, note, so they only capture a portion of the info. Here's a link to the most recent yearly summary from them (PDF file) Here are a few details about position group pay (something you asked about) and conference differences I nabbed on screenshots from an article in (I think) The Athletic last fall, as samples. This info came from Opendorse

The Cost of Winning (OSU - $37M deficient)
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Realist Horn's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Texas athletics department topped $300 million in revenue and operating expenses in 2024 The University of Texas athletics department again has shown its status as a national college sports business leviathan, recording $331.9 million in operating revenues and $325 million in operating expenses during its 2024 fiscal year, according to its new financial report to the NCAA. This is the first time since the NCAA began its current reporting system in 2005 that a Division I public school has reported more than $300 million in both revenues and expenses in the same year. It also is the largest single-year spending total, exceeding the $292.3 million that Ohio State reported for fiscal 2024 in a disclosure that occurred earlier on Monday. However, a separate independent accounting report also obtained Monday through an open-records request showed several caveats to Texasβ new figures. The largest of those on the revenue side was what the accountantsβ report described as a βlarge one-time donation to fund the construction of the new Moody Center,β an on-campus arena that opened in spring 2022. (full USAToday article at this link) -
Interesting that two teams from Dallas' division are playing in the NFC conference game, a place the Cowboys haven't reached in 30 years. And the two coaches calling plays were both coaching in Dallas recently, Quinn and Moore.

Amari Niblack commits to Texas A&M
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Bigtex48's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I think ten of our portal dudes have signed elsewhere now, and all went to P4 schools (at least initially - l@@king at you Johntay). Most of them transferred to SEC schools. Even our 2nd and 3rd team guys are in demand. SEC - Niblack (8&5), Mitchell (LSU), Bryant (Vandy), Bledsoe (Mississippi State), Gullette (Mississippi State) Big 12 - Savea (Arizona), Finkley (Kansas), Akana (BYU), Cole (Arizona) Big 10 - Cook (Washington) -
Washington got a new franchise nickname, a new owner, new coach and the right quarterback and suddenly it's a brave new world. For a franchise that's been down for so long it's great to see them doing well for a change. They were impressive against the Lions and figure to give the Eagles/Lambs winner a good game for the right to play in the Super Bowl. Detroit - gotta feel bad for those fans, who thought this was their year to make it to the Super Bowl for the first time ever after winning 15 games and earning the # 1 seed. Just too many injuries, especially on defense, and they couldn't stop anybody by season's end. Gamblers who took the Chiefs, giving 9.5 points! This is why I learned the hard way to not bet on sports (years ago). With an eleven point lead the Chiefs stop the Texans one last time and just need to run out the last 15 or so seconds to win 23-12. Instead of risking a punt they take the deliberate safety, and unexpectedly the Texans cover the spread 23-14. I'll bet that drove thousands of people crazy. NFL - no wonder it's the most popular sport on television.

My biggest heartbreak as a Texas fan was the Cotton Bowl after the undefeated 1977 season, when we had the Coach of the Year (Fred Akers), the Outland Trophy winner (Brad Shearer), the Heisman Trophy winner (Earl Campbell) and were undefeated in the regular season, then lost to Notre Dame. I can't root for 'em either. Am I the only one who is not even watching the championship game?
-
Arch is as good a guess as any, but seriously, how often does the preseason favorite actually win the Heisman? The last ten years or so it seems maybe half the time someone not even in the early top 5 comes out of nowhere to win as the preseason fav fades (Hunter, Daniels, Smith, Burrow etc). Here are the 2024 preseason favorites, in order Dillon Gabriel, Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart, Will Howard, Nico Iamaleava, Nussmeir, Cam Ward, Riley Leonard.

PETA Sends Letter To SEC Regarding Bevo
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I remember many years ago they took on the NFL, specifically the Green Bay Packers, demanding the nickname be changed. 'Packers' was originally short for 'meat packers', I guess a common job in stockyards when the franchise first started. PETA picketed, demanding the name be change to Green Bay Pickers, for fruit pickers. Still waiting for this idea to catch fire ... -
From the local Phoenix newspaper & from Sam himself The final piece: Arizona State QB announces his return for the 2025 season "Itβs officially official. After dropping breadcrumbs over the past few weeks, Arizona State redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt announced that he is returning to the school for the 2025 season after agreeing to an NIL deal with Sun Angel Collective. Leavitt posted the announcement to his X, formerly Twitter, profile."

Sark Seems Locked in π
ArizonaLonghorn replied to TexasFanatic's topic in On Texas Football Forum
"Locked in" but still finds time to give a video shout out to a Longhorn alum appearing at the Golden Globes. The man is a multi-tasking demon. Two things I didn't know about Glen Powell until watching this short video - his dad is a graduate of Ohio State and the University of Texas. Who is he pulling for? Says "Hook'em" so ... Also, according to Golden Globes emcee Nikki Glaser she and Glen are "balling". At least in her dreams while she's making love to her boyfriend (have to watch her opening monologue to hear the joke, sorry). -
OTF Premium All American Bowl Practice Thread (Tuesday)
ArizonaLonghorn replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
From a 247 article by Gabe Phillips about the "All Lobby" guys who looked the part at the Navy All-American Bowl - "Texas cornerback signee Kade Phillips, a top 40 overall prospect in the Top247 rankings, boasts one of the most impressive track and field ledgers in the class. Not only has he hit 21.50 seconds in the 200 meters and broken into the 49s in the 400, Phillips owns an absurd 24-foot, 7 1/2-inch long jump. So to add to that elite athletic profile, Phillips measured exceptionally well Monday: just shy of 6-foot-1, 184 pounds with 10+ hand, 34+ arm, and a 6-foot-8 1/2 wingspan." Kaliq Lockett was also mentioned - "Kaliq Lockett, 2025 Top247 5-star WR, Texas signee One of the longest-framed receivers in attendance, Texas five-star signee Kaliq Lockett out of the DFW Metroplex showed up with offensive line-like length numbers, including a 33+ arm and a wingspan pushing 6-foot-7. Almost 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Lockett boasts enormous hands (10 1/2), which certainly aid his pass-catching abilities. Lockett caught more than 100 passes for almost 2,000 yards across his final two high school seasons."
