Hypothetical Week 14 Results
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Ron Ajatrom's topic in On Texas Football Forum
One hypothetical worst case chaos scenario floating around has Texas losing to Arky or Kentucky, then beating A&M plus Georgia beating Tennessee. That could set up eight SEC teams tied for first with 6-2 conference records - go figure out how that one plays out. -

OTF Premium No. 3 Texas at Arkansas Game Week Thread
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Haven't seen any mention of this yet ... And then there's this nightmare of a beat down ... never underestimate your opponent in an away rivalry game, especially when you are their # 1 most hated rival and they wouldn't even make the top 4 of important games on your schedule this year -
Tell Paul that you think A&M should ditch the SEC and join the B10 to get away from Texas, even though you (Aggie you) know Texas will follow you since that's what they always do (like joining the SEC). Say that Texas has ruined it for A&M, toss in some bitching about the refs and Texas having too much influence on league big wigs. (don't roll your eyes, leaving for the B10 was a popular meme on Texags for a while) Tell PF that you think FSU will then take A&M's place in the SEC. That should stir the convo ... win-win baby!

He spent two years in junior college but is now claiming those years should not count against his college eligibility. No doubt he figures two more years of NIL would be better than getting a job. Crazy. An unexpected side effect of NIL. Any lawyers out there (Mark in Austin?), what do you think his chances of winning are? "Pavia argues in the lawsuit that counting junior college seasons toward years of NCAA eligibility "unjustifiably restrains" the ability for college athletes like himself to earn money through their name, image and likeness for the full four seasons."

We’re screwed if it comes to a Texas/UGA/TAMU tie
ArizonaLonghorn replied to CHorn427's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Not that it matters now since Aggies lost, but I think you are right upon re-reading the rules on page 3 at https://www.secsports.com/fbtiebreaker Specifically this part - 2. Three-Team Tie (or More) for First Place: In the event three or more teams are tied for first place in the Conference standings, the procedure below will be used in descending order. After the head-to-head competition among the tied teams, if a tiebreaker step produces standings with a clear No. 1 team by itself, that team is selected for the championship game [so, Georgia at this point?} and the remaining teams still in contention revert to the beginning of the applicable tiebreaker procedures (e.g., if there are three tied teams, the No. 1 team is in the championship game and the other two teams go to the first step of the two-team tiebreaker procedures for second place; [so this is where the rules state it restarts and we'd be ahead of A&M, assuming we both finished 11-1 but we beat them in the head-to-head ... no longer an option for this to happen, but good to know. Thanks for the info] -

Other College Games Thread: Week 10
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I live in Arizona, which was the most closely contested swing state in 2020 and is one of seven swingers this year. >30% registered R, > 30% registered D, > 30% registered Independent (probably 5% IDGAF, mad at everybody). My phone rings constantly with robo calls telling me who to vote for and the local TV ads are seemingly 80% political ads. A guy in a neighboring subdivision just got caught after shooting up the D local field office in nearby Tempe - three times the past month. Always at night so not trying to kill anyone, just scare them. He could have been a neighbor - same age as me, white male with technical degree in engineering (like me), nice 3 bdr home in well manicured subdivision (like me). When the police entered the home they found over 120 firearms, up to machine guns and grenade launchers. I'm OK around guns but I peaked with a .22 I had since a teen, a Remington 12 gauge automatic and a .270 Winchester Model 70 bolt action that I used on a Yukon pack trip for Dall sheep, moose and a Boone and Crockett record book caribou, then later a cheap African plains game safari in Namibia. Never felt the need for a concealed weapon permit or handgun or AR style rifle. So I found it a bit freaky that this dude, with 120 guns, had ~250,000 rounds of ammo. Wut? Jeez - this election can't be over soon enough. Just hope there's no violence in the key swing states. -

ArizonaLonghorn replied to CHorn427's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Sure, but the criteria for a three way tie head-to-head is that all three teams played each other, so it won't count. But it WOULD matter if A&M loses the SEC championship game to Georgia, leaving them with 3 losses, including one to us. Then we'd no doubt be ranked above them for seeding (they might not even make the 11 + 1 cutoff with 3 losses). Hopefully at # 5 or 6 so we'd get one of the weakest teams in the first round, then likely the Big 12 or ACC champ in the 2nd round. (Too much speculation on my part - Florida, Florida, Florida - that's the one we need next 🙂 ) -

Ant Hill is such a smart player ... notice on the INT how he looks around and finds a guy coming up behind Black who might be able to make a play, and Hill screens him off without risking a penalty. And this is the first time I've seen the play (no SEC Network) - didn't look like much of a penalty by VB from that angle, though it did look like Sorrell might have raked the QB across the face (face mask?) as he went by. So glad we got Mack and Black in this class. -
OTF Premium Immediate Reactions | Texas vs. Vanderbilt
ArizonaLonghorn replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Four games left and every team we face will have lesser talent than us, but each team has some dudes on the defensive line who can cause our OL problems. I'm pretty sure they'll be coming hard after what we've done the past two games. Kentucky and Florida (in Austin) should be doable though it might get ugly, but you know the Hogs and Aggies (on the road) will be fired up and coming for blood. The team needs answers if we're to go 4-0 the rest of the way. Can we at least stop with the stupid penalties on offense? -

Excellent article from ESPN about the great mascot stand off in the Sugar Bowl. I didn't know Uga had bitten someone at an Auburn game, or that Jordan Shipley ran into Bevo at the end of a punt return against Tech for a TD, or that Bevo took a dump on the Nebraska logo - "Brennes [Silver Spurs]: We had a moment walking Bevo off the field against Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game, and he defecated on the word "Nebraska" when we were walking him off." Photo to prove it. The only thing they gloss over is the photographer who got horns down in the back - everyone, including the AAS photog, is laughing about it in the article but he later filed a lawsuit asking for $200,000 - $1,000,000. The mascot I wouldn't want to handle is Ralphie the buffalo - Bevo seems mild mannered by comparison. An oral history of when Bevo charged Uga at the Sugar Bowl [link]

Highest Ranked Games in DKR History
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Hashtag's topic in On Texas Football Forum
True, and I didn't say it was ... I realize this thread is about DKR games but I simply was responding to a post from one of our younger viewers who wrote "Remember when Arkansas had great teams? Yeah, I wasn’t alive then either." And Arky did have great teams for a few years back then. 🤘 -
Found this fuller, better description on AP Oregon took the lead with 1:47 left on Atticus Sappington’s 19-yard field goal in Saturday night's game, giving the Buckeyes time to drive down the field for a potential winning field goal. With Ohio State facing a third-and-25 from Oregon's 43-yard line, the Ducks called a timeout with 10 seconds left. Just before the ball was snapped, Oregon defensive back Dontae Manning walked onto the field, giving the Ducks an extra defender. Ohio State failed to complete a pass against Oregon's 12-man defense on the next play, and the Ducks were flagged for an illegal substitution penalty. Ohio State gained five yards on the penalty, but lost four seconds off the clock since the penalty was deemed a live-ball foul. The Buckeyes were left with six seconds on the clock, and quarterback Will Howard scrambled up the middle, sliding a second too late for Ohio State to call a timeout for a potential game-winning field goal at Oregon's 26. Lanning's ploy helped the Ducks win the game and move up to No. 2 in this week's AP Top 25.

I think there were 10 seconds left in the game, clock stopped after incompletion (?), OSU needed a few more yards for a first down and to get in position for a winning FG. This penalty ran the clock down to 6 seconds IIRC before OSU realized what the duck was happening, then the OSU QB ran for a few yards and got down on purpose but time had expired. So basically instead of just enough time for two plays (if they got a first down) OSU had time for just one play. Belichickian in my view.

Anyone else remember the Greatest Recruiting Class in History from 2022? Those players are now eligible for the draft but the only A&M player on this list of projected first rounders is a transfer from Purdue. And the only name I recognize from that original class is LT Overton, who is now at Alabama. Eight 5* recruits in one class and very little to show for it. As a wise man once said "You guys keep talking about a $20 million roster ... [but] If you don't pay the right guys, you'll be sh-- out of luck." Or don't have the right staff to develop them.

You agreed to pay your qb $60 million per year
ArizonaLonghorn replied to bierce's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Top 5 QBs by salary and their teams' records - $60 million - Dak Prescott (3-2, 2nd in division) $55 million - Trevor Lawrence (1-4, last in division) $55 million - Joe Burrow (1-4, tied for last in division) $55 million - Jordan Love (3-2, tied for last in division) $53 million - Tua Tagovailoa (2-3, tied for 2nd/3rd in division, concussed for nth time and may retire) And don't forget the QB with the longest fully guaranteed contract, Deshaun Watson - (1-4, tied for last in division) -- Just scanning the list of the 10 division leaders counting ties there isn't a clear pattern of whether it's good to pay big bucks or not 2 (Texans and Commanders) have QBs picked 2nd in their drafts playing on rookie deals - this is ideal if you can pull it off because it frees $35 million or so for roster building, but it's interesting that the two QBs taken ahead of these two QBs in the drafts haven't played as well, so it's a bit of a crap shoot picking the right guy 4 (Seahawks, Tampa Bay, Vikings, Steelers) have relatively low cost reclamation project QBs - this is dicey because there's a reason Smith, Mayfield, Darnold and Fields crashed elsewhere. How deep in the playoffs can they take you? 4 (Bills, Chiefs, Falcons, Ravens) have highly regarded guys (Cousins less so than the others) making good money, though Cousins, Lamar and Allen will all have doubters until they win big in the playoffs Dak had the Cowboys in a bind because he couldn't be tagged and was in his last contract year, so they had to overpay if you just look at his performance -
Heads exploded in College Station hearing that 🤢
