  1. This is just stupid and bad business on behalf of the big 12 and schools that opt in imo. They should only do this if they stand a chance at going deep in the playoffs and winning. No school in the big 12 stands a chance of building a roster complete enough to truly compete even with borrowed money. They simply won’t be able to win enough NIL battles to field a complete and competitive roster. They may be able to field one to win the big 12 and that’s about it.
  2. I saw an article: https://brobible.com/sports/article/philip-rivers-play-style-exposing-modern-qbs/ that talks about how Phillip Rivers (and what Tom Brady talks about a lot) in terms of QBs reading the defense instead of just relying on their raw talent. This is what I believe Arch is learning to do under Sark, and this takes a lot of experience and time. Arch also has the physical gifts and abilities as well which is why I believe many people predict him to be great and some even projected #1 pick. He has the ability to blend both the old school style (from his uncle's day) and the new style of play. Hoping it comes to fruition fully next year and results in a natty.
  3. Any potential news on the tennis teams and golf teams?
  4. Really of the teams left, the only one I can see myself being content with winning is Indiana if just so that it's a new team that won't make it more difficult for Texas to recruit against.
  5. I believe the committee doesn't give 2 sh1ts about being right or wrong and outside of the Texas fanbase, no one else cares that Texas was omitted. So I want bama and miami to take them to the woodshed.
  6. Don't know the reasoning, but my guess would be that it was not amicably. There were rumors there was some beef with the coach. The reason I say that it was not amicably, is because I remember something to the effect in one of her posts about transferring to Texas, she threw shade saying "transferring to a program where they know how to win championships" - which was right after the season Texas annihilated Nebraska in the championship match. The animosity between Texas and Nebraska in volleyball is about how it is between Texas and ou in football imo. One of the rumors on the volleyball forum on former player Kayla Caffey (who also transferred from Nebraska) is that allegedly Cook accused her of being selfish and not a team player, so when she transferred to Texas, she never had her name put on her jersey and only had Texas to rub it in his face that she was a team player.
  7. This one hurts because she's finally healthy but the emergence of the freshman limited her playing time. When she transferred in, coach said she had the potential to be the next franchise player. This was also prior to Stafford joining the team as well, so logjam at the position along with the #1 recruiting coming in next year.
  8. Probably because likely Harvey is going to be a starter next year along with Nya Bunton. This severely hurts depth though.
  9. Don't have any info, however what is fact is that Starck's mother played volleyball for Texas, albeit was before Coach Elliott took over the program. So hopefully there's interest from her as she was the freshman of the year last year and entered the portal for mental health. Texas' previous players have often said that coming to Texas brought back the love of volleyball for them (latest one being Madi Skinner).
  10. With ATM's volleyball advancing further and their football advancing further, they are ahead for sure. They have strong track teams as well, Texas will need some of the other teams to really pick up the slack from the fall sports.
  11. Texas might go after Izzy Starck, the star setter from Penn St who’s in the transfer portal. She led Penn St. to the title last year.
  12. Since Vic’s been here, but next few years I think the team will be even better with the talent coming in.
  13. The Aggies are dangerous, they have strong middles. Texas needs to take care of business tonight against a hot Wisconsin team.
  14. This would be the only time I'd pull for the Aggies, so those cocky ass Nebraska fans and their team can cry with that loaded team and class never winning a championship.
  15. Nebraska is stacked like the Texas team in 2022 was, the championship is theirs to lose. They don't really have a weakness. That said, anyone left has the ability to beat them as well.
  16. The "backups" for Texas this year probably start at any other team in the country outside of maybe Nebraska. It's a nice luxury to have.
  17. It's a school gym so will still be used for intramurals and stuff, the athletic dept actually had to rent Gregory for all the volleyball matches from the university.
  18. This is a big deal that people underestimate. Experience and another year(s) of growth/conditioning is massive at that level. Sure there are some prodigies, but when you have teams that are comparatively talented, upper classmen on average will be bigger, faster, stronger, and just know more about the game. Vets vs. rookies.
  19. Agree - Ohio St. and Michigan make sense to keep because that's the return trip to Austin so Texas wants to reap the cost benefits, however Notre Dame not the same situation. Right now, only Notre Dame gets credit whether they win or not, Texas would be punished for losing but not really gain anything winning the game.
  20. The women's teams will need to carry the load again this year with football missing the playoffs (except for Swimming & Diving where both teams need to, but the men will be favorites for the title). Softball will be expected to compete for a championship, not sure where baseball will be, women's bball expected to compete, doubt it on men's bball (after watching Virginia take them to the woodshed), so far volleyball looking good.
  21. The sad thing about the big 12 is that without Texas and OU, literally anyone can win in that conference because there's no standouts. Luckily for tech, they have donors rich enough to flex their money and out spend the rest of the other schools. There's literally no blue blood or perennial power in the big 12 left.
  22. This is pretty much it. If they had someone already in their back pocket, the BYU coach fiasco wouldn't have happened. They would have just sat quietly until the person was ready to announce and one has to think that it would have been before signing day. For grins, let's assume that it's Deboer, and because his team is still in the hunt for the playoffs, he didn't want to pull a Lane Kiffin. Well he's just making it harder on himself when he does go to Penn St. Why would he make it better for the old employer than for the new one? That's why I don't think he's going. Kiffin's move may have been a douche move, but he had to move before signing day in order to prevent recruits from bailing.
  23. The rebuild at Penn St. is going to be just like when it was post Joe Paterno. It's going to be literally ashes.
  24. But then he wouldn't get paid from LSU right? Kelly can just wait for a really good situation and get paid.
  25. Not if all the stud players are off the board by the time they hire a coach.
