  1. I feel like Nichols pretty much solidified her spot with her play in the WCWS. If Beachum is only 3rd base that's probably a no go.
  2. Also let's remember it doesn't have to be a big name with the squad they already have assembled - last year Altmeyer wasn't the big splash transfer name, but she had some key moments in the WCWS.
  3. I don't know her game, does she have the speed for the outfield? Have to assume she's got an arm playing catcher.
  4. Fair question and the answer would be no unless she's so good you can't keep her on the bench, however there's going to be sophomore catcher Anne Wallace as well; worst case Kate could catch but they probably want her at 1st base with her athleticism. If Swan's an upgrade over Wallace, they do it. Defensively we're definitely going to miss Atwood's prowess at throwing out runners and pickoffs.
  5. Of the three, the most diabolical is Tech. If they can get Torres, they are booting Toney to the curb without a thought. Texas on the other hand will not; there's an open slot at 2nd base but if Torres is set on playing SS, then that's narrows it down. Of the three names you mentioned - Azua, Swan, and Torres, I think the least likely of the three for Texas is Swan. While Reese graduates, they have two highly touted youngsters. Azua makes sense because they need a solid LHP and potentially #2 behind Kavan. Torres if she takes 2nd or if Martinez moves to 2nd is a no brainer, but highly doubtful given how much money Tech's going to throw at her.
  6. They have quickly taken over the villain role with all the poaching. To quote big bang theory, in what world do you find Sooners rooting for Longhorns? Answer: In the NIL world.
  7. Is that confirmed or you're speculating?
  8. This is a pretty awesome story. What a representative for Texas Kavan is. https://grid.jervisfamily.com/posts/teagan-kavans-touching-visit-leaves-deanos-family-tears-muoi123-team-eta-45c1?fbclid=IwRlRTSASRvYhleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEeCLJZUKvOiWZen2eOwKx7eioPxqa_3JeMywgBahcp1DjEi3FWf5g69fE5CYY_aem_HX4tMcLrRDesRkG4PVseRw
  9. Crowded infield, was going to be tough for her to get playing time if that's what she's seeking.
  10. That's a pretty stacked roster on paper. Even potentially without Bordi, I'm thinking White will try one of the star inf recruits in RF. There's going to be a battle for 2nd base. Unless you're replacing outgoing portals, I'm thinking you're looking for a stud pitcher if there's one but not settle, and potentially an outfielder. Infield is pretty much solid and possibly even crowded.
  11. Pitchers are the most coveted portal players because how much they impact the game. Will be interesting to see who gets who.
  12. The probably successors to the seniors leaving are: Annie Abdullah - 2nd base Steve South - catcher Either Madi Doty or Sophia Bordi #2 or #3 pitcher Alysa Sneed - LF Not sure who would slot into RF right now, Ashton Maloney and her rocket arm will be hard to replace. The other starts are pretty much set unless anything changes: #1 Pitcher - Kavan 1st Base - Katie Stewart SS - Vivi Martinez 3rd - Jaycie Nichols CF - Kayden Henry
  13. Nebraska is Big 10. But point stands considering Texas threw their #2 and #3 pitcher in game two.
  14. Hmm, she left ou softball because of mental health, maybe she's quit softball altogether, never know. Could make sense to look for a pitcher in the portal depending on what we have next year; at least 3 good pitchers would be solid and Texas currently has Kavan and Wells as likely 1 & 2 heading into the season. After that it's up for grabs.
  15. White has said that he's selective in the portal because of the highly touted recruits they get. He says it would not only not be fair to the recruits if you recruit them only to portal players to take the spots they were going to take; might as well not recruit them in the first place. It would also make it hard for you to recruit because why would they come to your school then. Tech's strategy is bold and can only last so long as they have money. Because I can't imagine any top recruit would want to go there since they aren't being developed, they're taking other school's developed players. We should start a thread to look at the roster for next year, would be a fun discussion.
  16. You make an important point, would the Mt. Rushmore be specifically what they did at Texas, or what they did for their entire career? Because that greatly would affect rankings for some.
  17. I think most of the softball news in on Reddit, but I'm old and it's difficult for me to navigate that.
  18. Kavan is getting all the accolades and rightfully so, but I also have to give props to Citlaly Gutierrez. I myself have been critical of her and didn't think she was a legit #2, but against Tennessee and Tech at the WCWS, she was lights out and gave the team a chance to win and that's all you can ask. And she did it with a smile on her face. Because of her outings, Kavan was able to get the needed rest to do what she does best.
  19. I haven't heard anything that's extraordinary, she gets credit for being the highest paid player at the time. Jordy Bahl Frahm likely took less money to go home to Nebraska and build that program (her home state) into a contender. To me that's more worthy. Karlyn Pickens was interviewed and said she was offered a ton more money (likely by Tech) but stayed at Tennessee because it means something to try to finish what you started. Reese Atwood was contacted by Tech last year during the WCWS and said no thanks I'm staying at Texas. Teagan Kavan has interviewers pull in who she believes should be recognized that usually do not get the spotlight (Altemeier). Those types of actions have more impact imo.
  20. Team wise and trophy case, but Cat was beyond dominant as a pitcher with no offense. On top of the gaudy stats, Cat also lost a bunch of 0-1 games because teams she was on couldn’t score at all.
  21. In terms of hardware yes and she’s definitely in the top 3 if she’s not. So many great players have come through. Names include Haley Eckerman, Logan Eggleston, and I’m starting a blank on a player from earlier in Texas’ history that dominated at multiple positions.
  22. Is it usual to not shake hands after the champ game? Saw someone tweet that Tech was sour and just started packing their bags instead of going out and congratulating Texas.
  23. I watched highlights clip today, interestingly, Mowins said Canady was listed as the starter, but then when they had Terry pitch first, that counted as a substitution, normally not an issue for them, but when they brought in the third pitcher, Canady was subbed out of the game and then couldn't come back in.
  24. She's a stud and I think left handed as well.
  25. Isn't Texas set at SS with both Rodriguez and the guy from Tech who is going to play 3rd?
