  1. And D’Antre Robinson, Bubba Hampton, Jonah Wilson, Evan Stewart, Jamarion Miller flipped away from Texas. It works both ways. Why do we pretend like Texas is the only school who has gotten lucky and has only benefited from it? Again, when it happens 3 years in a row, it is more than just a trend. And if you have to set yourself up to capitalize on those opportunities because the other big boy schools know who might flip too.
  2. All 3 years they had a borderline top 5 class even before late the adds. 2023 had literally one notable late flip (Anthony Hill). Last year was an elite class even without Filsaime or Wardell Mack. They have won out for plenty of guys who just long drawn out recruiting battles (Black, DJ Campbell, Neto, Baker, Wingo, Zina, Akana, etc) Flips/coaching carousel/bad seasons happen every year so that is absolutely something you factor into your process. When it happens 3 years in a row it is more than just luck.
  3. Why doesn’t this happen to Georgia or Ohio State or Alabama?
  4. There is not one services that said Texas signed 6 of the top 10 in Texas last year or 5 of top 10 in 2022. Those are numbers you pulled out of thin air.
  5. Some ideas are better kept to yourself and not posted as a new thread
  6. The first class of Bryant, Ross, Bledsoe, Swanson was considered to be a very solid class. Many people seem to forget Ross and Bryant were thought to be top 100 guys in the country.
  7. Texas did not take one DT last year. And they aren't taking one this year.
  8. Galvan is fine defensively. Schuessler is definitely a 1B/DH type.
  9. For every Tony Vitello, there are 100 other assistants who did absolutely nothing when given P5 gigs.
  10. Sorry I don’t let one game determine the ability of a good player, regardless of the magnitude. It’s called a ‘season’ and ‘career’ for a reason.
  11. Who is playing out of position? Powell is considered a very strong 3B and Flores has been solid all year. You also reference a fly ball last year that landed between two of the best defensive outfielders we’ve had in the last 20 years.
  12. My point is you have to have a SS regardless. Whether that is paying up for a returnee or paying for one out of the portal. Either way you are spending money.
  13. Well if he came back.....it would be part of building the team for next year.
  14. You think there will be many SS in the portal who can hit .348 with 17 bombs and an OPS over 1.000? He probably isn't returning, but yes it would absolutely be worth it to pay up if he wanted to return.
  15. And the offense hasn’t seen the same plays from the defense for two and a half week? The QB can’t be touched, the defense isn’t going to light up their own teammates (see Brooks refusing to light up someone on the sideline) and Barron, Muhammad, Trey Moore and Mukuba were all in street clothes most of the game and you think the defense was supposed to have the advantage during that game?
  16. All due respect to Tyrese Hunter, but we shouldn't be needing a sports psychologist to help unlock someone who has started 106 college basketball games. He is who he is at this point. I sense the fear is if we let Hunter walk we have to bring in somewhat of an unknown to replace him and that scares some. My viewpoint is it's not that hard to replace the production of a guy who was mostly a league average player at best for 80% of the season.
  17. Abmas did not regress from last year. Don’t let one or two games cloud your view of the guy. His FG and 3 point % dropped 1 point from last year. His assist rate actually slightly increased and his turnover rate stayed about the same as his career average. Considering the huge jump in competition all those numbers sound about right, especially when you consider Texas had to ask him to be the primary ball handler after it became obvious Hunter couldn’t handle it.
  18. Fair. The commitment to basketball at OU is way behind. I believe they are trying to build a new arena, too.
  19. I agree. This team should be a 7 if they win tonight, regardless of what happens against Iowa State. Hard to make an argument that a team like Washington State or Dayton should be seeded ahead of Texas, considering the key metrics the committee is supposed to look at.
  20. OU is going to have a decision to make on Porter Moser. I thought he would win there but it just isn't working and he apparently isn't the easiest guy to work with or play for.
  21. @Gerry Hamilton Any idea what the portal number might be for Texas? I'm assuming a ball-handling guard and some rim protection will be at the top of the list.
  22. Considering a 7-11 Big 12 team has made the tournament each of the last two years, I think last night pretty much locked up a spot. Not like the bubble is full of good times anyway, and certainly not ones with 4 road Q1 wins. The committee has shown in previous years they don't weight performances in the conference tournament super heavily, so we definitely need to go 2-1 down the stretch here to avoid a 8/9 matchup.
  23. I believe Santos is also out for the year with an injury. He, Rigney and Mercer all went down in the fall—our 3 portal arms. Brutal.
  24. The floor of this team feels fairly high, but the ceiling seems like it will be determined by whether Gasparino can play like a dude as a freshman and if we can get at least one of Luke Harrison or Witt to be like their old selves.
