  1. Sarkisian on the 1H suspension of Vernon Broughton and the prep for the iDL ahead of Florida. Vernon Broughton is practicing as normal. Sarkisian points to Lole's ascension, Byrant, Sydir Mitchell having good weeks as well.
  2. "What I loved about today's practice is the spirit, the energy, the intent." Sarkisian says he didn't want the bye week to bleed into a game week and he didn't feel like it did on Monday's practice.
  3. Sarkisian on Florida: This is one of if not the best looking teams in our conference.
  4. Steve Sarkisian on Quinn Ewers during the bye week and reviewing the Vandy tape: "He looks fresh, he looks healthy... I thought he was intentional with his feet and his base against Vanderbilt and it showed."
  5. On the SEC new rule of fining coaches for "false injuries" Sarkisian says Texas really has not been affected by opponents trying to doctor up timeouts with fake injuries. Says it is not something that he condones in his program.
  6. Sarkisian on the log jam atop of the SEC Standings: "There is a lot of football to be played in the month of November... All that we can control is us."
  7. On Jahdae Barron's decision to return, Sarkisian says he hopes all of his players went through the process that Barron did. Not just seeing mock drafts online, but hearing from NFL Draft Scouts and their written reports. "I think Jahdae has made himself a lot of money coming back (for 2024)."
  8. Steve Sarkisian says DT Sydir Mitchell has had his best two weeks of practice over the last 14 days.
  9. Sarkisian on the younger players making the most of the bye week. "Kobe Black continues to make strides." Sarkisian says JJR and Filsaime are both on "the come up" Jerrick Gibson received some praise as well.
  10. Sarkisian: "Our mojo offensively is one thing that I really want to get back." Says sometimes there is an "over-try" that hurts the swagger and mojo of the offense. But if Texas can get back to where they were earlier in the year to combine with the defense, they will be in good shape.
  11. DB Andrew Mukuba and WR Isaiah Bond both practiced Monday morning per Sarkisian.
  12. Sarkisian on coaching penalties in practice during the bye week: "I think we have addressed those things pretty well."
  13. On the possibility of Lagway not playing: Sarkisian says Texas will prepare for the scheme and the Longhorns must approach the gameplan vs. the Gators, rather than the quarterback itself.
  14. Sarkisian says Florida is a very talented team and they should not be dismissed because of their record at the moment.
  15. "Good to be back in game week and game mode." Sarkisian says it was great to rest and recover and the routine of getting back to work is important for the team.
  16. Should be getting going in the next five minutes or so.
  17. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is back in front of the microphone today for his weekly press conference. The Longhorns will host Florida this weekend as they return from their second, and final, bye week of the season. Florida lost to Georgia in Jacksonville over the weekend, but most importantly, might have lost their starting quarterback, DJ Lagway, for the season due to injury. Notes and quotes in the comments down below.
  18. Not too much. They had designed rush attempts with the QB, scored on it in the 1Q. Basically the Sam Ehlinger special with a QB power.
  19. I'm with you on that.
  20. Texas A&M also missed 25 tackles on defense last night. For those wondering, the most Texas has missed in a game this season is 13 (vs. UTSA). DL Shemar Stewart missed five tackles.
  21. Dylan Stewart and Colin Simmons going to be battling it out for first EDGE off the board in 2027 NFL Draft.
  22. TLDR; Aggies' defense does not match up well for Texas. Ewers doesn't evade like Sellers and the A&M DL is legit. On the flip side, Aggies' offense is nothing to write home about.
  23. That meeting on November 30 in College Station is going to be very difficult for the Longhorns. The world watched last night as Texas A&M disappeared in the second half and fell short in Columbia by the score of 44–20. Remember, that was a tied game at halftime, then the Gamecocks flipped a switch and dominated the final two quarters. But as I was watching that game, I couldn't help but find ways to compare what I was seeing with Texas A&M on the field to what that will look like against Texas later on this season. There were a few key points that I saw that lead me to believe that matchup for the Longhorns is pretty unfavorable at the moment. First, Texas A&M's pass rush is legit. Quinn Ewers has his strengths. But that does not include sack evasion and pocket mobility. We have been critical this season in wanting to see him do more when under duress in the pocket. Texas A&M did not sack LaNorris Sellers on Saturday, but they accumulated 21 pressures and made life extremely difficult in straight drop back sets. Sellers a really talented quarterback. At 6-feet-3-inches and 240 pounds, he is a handful to bring down and that played into his advantage all evening. The Gamecock quarterback took off 15 times with the ball on Saturday. Of those 15 rush attempts, eight were scrambles and seven were designed QB runs. Sellers accounted for 106 yards on the ground as well, 50 of which coming after contact. That won't be a p art of the Texas offense. Now, Texas has a better offensive line. Well, at least they should. But the point remains, Texas won't have the luxury that Sellers brought to the Gamecock offense on Saturday. Next, I think it is great that the Longhorns get to play Arkansas prior to the Aggies. For a few reasons, one going on the road for a little taste of the hostility will be good for the Longhorns. But more importantly, the play at quarterback will almost mirror that of Marcel Reed exactly. Texas has done great at containing mobile quarterbacks under Pete Kwiatkowski. Whether Texas faces Taylen Green or Malachi Singleton, the threat of the running quarterback remains. This is a great appetizer for Marcel Reed in my eyes. Containment will be key and keeping 22 eyes on the quarterback will be essential. Really important the Longhorns play well in Fayetteville in that regard. But on a real positive note. The Texas A&M offense is not special. It's truly not. Texas A&M does not have a game-changing quarterback and their weapons are average at best. Their wide receivers don't create separation, the Aggies don't have an impact tight end and now Le'Veon Moss, unfortunately, might be done for the year. South Carolina has a tremendous edge rushing tandem and were able to create 21 pressures of their own – nine of those came from true freshman EDGE Dylan Stewart. But the point is the offense struggles. How will Texas A&M find explosive plays outside of the off script QB run game against Texas? I don't know.
