  1. Past hour
  2. Gianna Kneepkens was in the portal and visited Texas, but went to UCLA instead. She’s the type of 3 point sniper this team could’ve used. UConn’s got elite shooters everywhere and a great defense. They’re shooting over 40% from 3 on 20+ attempts per game. Gonna be tough to beat for anyone, including Texas. Geno Auriemma’s about to go on another dynastic run. Hope Vic continues to adapt to what modern day basketball has become or he’ll be like Mike White before he won a natty last season in softball.
  3. This post is not what you think. By change, I mean philosophically. Rod B and others speculate that Sark is moving on from the "big human" prototype and embracing more athletic tackle types to play inside. Flood can develop tackles like nobody's business (let's not forget that). The game is evolving on inside line play and that might be a good thing for Flood. Last year (especially against GA) showed that quick, explosive defensive lineman trump "big humans" on the inside. Perhaps Sark's evolution of the prototypical lineman plays into Floods strengths? (developing athletic lineman as opposed to "people pushers") I'm being optimistic...........I know. I just have a hard time believing that Sark is going is simply accepting business as usual from Flood's IOL evals and development. That's not Sark's history. He evolves with the game. Examples: He now favors dual threat QBs and bigger receivers. That was not his preference five years ago but the game evolved and so did he at those two positions. Maybe this past season simply showed Sark and Flood that people pushers don't work anymore and that it's time to evolve. Maybe that's why we so many "big humans" go and seem to be signing more athletic types? Just a thought. This is based more on Sark's ability to adapt than ANYTHING I've seen from Flood on the inside.....just to be clear. I mean SOMETHING must be keeping Flood here right?

  4. Shooting, shooting, shooting? Don't know what Vic has against it, but that's what he's always lacked.
  5. It’s not about adding “whatever players” we’re the university of Texas, competing for national championships. Like I said, overall a great portal class but we still have someone on the fence about going back in the portal and we can’t assume we’re going to land a meaningful player at this stage of the portal. Lots of 3rd and 4th string out there that’s for sure. We just hoping to find a guard from Miami or Indy? I know baker is sliding in but what about LG, would’ve been nice to get a guaranteed starter at IOL.
  6. Today
  7. Uh no the portal just closed last Friday is all. Texas still has the next several months to add whatever players are still in the portal. And finishing the portal class with the addition of a starting caliber right tackle is hardly weak. 🙄
  8. Man, Bobby, this whole portal thing is turning into some kinda good cheese match. Lotsa moving parts behind the scenes, IMHO
  9. So basically we most likely won’t get anyone else in the portal and we are just hoping we don’t still lose anyone? A weak finish to an overall great portal class.
  10. Ole Miss is also working to bring him back. LSU is thought to be likely destination if he doesn’t return to the Rebels.
  11. I think this is true enough within the scope of the first five games of conference play. That said, Bucky ball is still gimmick ball and it won't pan out over the long haul. I'd lay big money that Bucky never wins consistently at a high level in high major basketball. Miller's problems stem from defensive breakdowns by knuckleheads and inconsistent shooting. He can be blamed for the roster this season, and maybe failing to do enough to "adjust" to his players, but his goal is to build the program over the next couple of seasons, not maximize wins this season, which wouldn't do more than maybe get him into the tournament.
  12. Could be right but that is what folks in Indiana thought about football. Never know, Hopefully our fair weather fans will stay with the team and we can go get some help in portal. We have a proven coach, just needs time and support to get it done.
  13. Their actions clearly indicate they don't see the guard issue as nearly as big a problem as some fans do. They have the money and they would have spent it if they thought it was a must. Educated guess is that Sark thinks Arch's improvement largely negates the guard issue from a pass pro standpoint and they plan to emphasize outside zone in the run game. Differently stated, Sark clearly thinks getting big time weapons for Arch is much more important than getting a big time guard. More bang for the buck.
  14. I want to start by saying I like Miller. I was skeptical of the hire, but watching him coach, I like him. Seems he's tough for some guys to take, so he's gotta get more of "his guys." Not enough shooting, and just not enough intelligent guard play on the defensive side. Wilcher has not panned out. Can't see him back next year. Heide is way too timid. Can't see him back next year. Mark, Pope and Weaver are out of eligibility if I'm not mistaken. I think Swain will be back unless he just wants to transfer. He's not a first or high second round pick. Be happy to keep Matas, but wouldn't pay him too much. Don't think it's a good idea to go into the season counting on Goosby and Ogden to be big time guys as freshmen. Need a PG that can spearhead the offense and defense. Obviously need a wing or two that can bridge to Goosby and Ogden. Then you need a couple of consistent role players/glue guys. Don't really care what happens the rest of this season as long as they don't collapse.
  15. I am copying over what I wrote on the game thread. If I had read this first I would not have written what I did because it would have been pretty much a rubber stamp here. I wrote what I did on the other thread to point out how Jeff and Jordan's exchange, directly on point, fit my take on the game. So here again: I watched this game late last night from the recording I made while out to dinner with family. I have nothing specific to add, but I thought the more glaring shortcomings were on defense. Defensive focus is difficult to maintain. The second half against Vandy was an example of how well it can be done by this same team, this second half was not. In hindsight, I think Jeff's comment about lack of a strong 4 and Jordan's suggestion of a three guard lineup fit both the failures of the defense in the second half. Within the game and without hindsight there is the desire to keep enough outside shooting on the floor against a zone to keep up. In hindsight, playing three out would have likely improved the defensive intensity, as would have playing both Traore and Matas together. Would having more limited shooting options against a zone have made it worse? IDK. I think Miller will trot out these lineups situationally in other games to come and he and we will learn as the season progresses. There is this: were Wilcher or Weaver reliable shooters the whole problem would disappear because defensive intensity could be maintained without giving up outside shooting.
  16. Note sure if anyone posted this… Johntay Cook has committed to Ol’ Miss.
  17. How did Logic come into play? LOL
  18. Here we go folks. Coach needs a win at home against the Farmers. Here's hoping Aaliyah Crump returns today! Jordan Lee needs to get her confidence back after a disastrous game at South Carolina. This team needs to realize how important possessions are in tight games. I expect to see Booker have a great game and not turn the ball over so much. Rori needs to not let her opponent beat her like Raven Johnson did Thursday. Defense, defense, defense!!
  19. Thank God our coaches aren't as panicky as some of you folks on here. Our offensive line will be a strength this year! Plus our new running backs are the type that are shot out of a canon. They aren't waltzing along the line looking for an opening.
  20. We can hardly track who’s in and who’s out. It seems they spend as much time retaining as searching outside then start over again the following day. I’m concerned with Guard too. I’m not sure we’re struggling though, TBD. Names will appear as late as Tuesday, might not have the answer for a week or more. Hang in there folks, bumpy ride isn’t over.
  21. Not even close. Did you watch how close some of Texas games were early in the year? He called his players out after two games against nobodies. A&M only lose was in overtime against Tennessee. That’s the team that blew Texas out.
  22. He was a good player. The question was is he SEC good or Conference USA good?
  23. ok time to bring this thread back. Bald Wemby goin nuclear rn.
