Tolerance for college football woes is waning

 I don’t know how much longer I’ll stay invested in college football with all the issues and lack of real leadership and accountability. I quit the NFL 5 years ago for other reasons and never looked back and can see myself doing the same with college if things don’t change. Ratings are at all time highs though, so people in charge don’t feel the pressure to make the hard decisions and are content kicking the can down the road. They are looking out for their own interests or whats best for their conference instead of what’s best for the sport. Why should I spend my limited time, focus and money on a sport that takes us for granted?

I quit the Dallas Cowboys after they were a no-show at home vs the Packers and their rookie QB. And I had been a Cowboys fan since childhood.

I was turned off by the NFL's venture into Wokeness and I haven't watched Pro football since I stopped caring about the Cowboys. I tried to watch but discovered I no longer cared.

I haven't watched an NBA game in many years after following the League since I was a youngster. Same for MLB... last game I recall watching was when the Texas Rangers were one strike away from winning the World Series.

So CFB and the Longhorns have been my refuge. I still watch Nowhere State play Whattsamotta U on TV. Some of the things about the new landscape of CFB bother me but so far I am still caring.

I'm retired now and I realize I'm no longer in the target audience for Pro sports but as College sports moves more and more into the professional mode I will hang in as long as I still enjoy the College games and I'm a Texas Ex, so I will always love the Longhorns.

You’re not wrong. As a rabid lifetime Texas fan it’s hard to even fathom not being “all-in” Saturdays in the fall. But the reality is right now these are mercenary players and no one has any loyalty or patience to grow and develop. Football is quickly devolving into what basketball has become and the product will degrade and suffer at every level as a result. I’m not ready to give up Texas but I’ve given up the rest of college football and all other sports just in the last 3 years because of how little the leagues think of the fans. All the ads, the endless TV timeouts, the horrid announcers, worsening officiating, and outrageous prices for tickets/concessions at the games made it easy for me to spend my time and money elsewhere.

I gave up on the Cowboys when Jerry Jones sacked Tom Landry and others {not that he fired them, but the disrespectful way he did it). I gave up on the rest of pro sports when they became so mercenary. College sports seem to be headed the same direction. 
I just hope we can win an NC in the next few years while it’s still worth caring about.

Barry won with Jimmy's players.  After that, with only a few bright spots overshadowed by Jones, it was over for me.

College has always been more interesting on the field, but current trends away from student athletes has all but killed that for me.  Players not getting paid was a raw deal for them, though.

If you don’t like it, don’t get so invested in the behind the scenes.  Saturdays are the same as they’ve ever been.  If you are on these boards you are seeing how the cake is made rather than just enjoying it after it’s served.

Those of us who you interact with will notice your absence, but the guys at the top making the decisions won't. We all are equally frustrated, but telling us your intentions is preaching to the choir🤷🏿

Same as some of the above, gave up on a Cowboys when Jerry took over. Gave up on the other major leagues years before, phantom calls in the NBA no Americans playing baseball. Years ago somebody said they couldn't follow college baseball because all the players were new every year and here we are with the same crap with football. It was exciting to think how a player was going to develop from one year to the next now it doesn't matter cuz they're developed somewhere else.

I generally just watch college football now.  I watched most every Cowboy game from Roger Stauback until Prescott’s leg injury; I finally figured out that Jerry Jones was the real problem.  I quit watching the NBA when the rules changed creating the clear out offense and the players just became chumps.  No more Jordan, Bird, Magic, Barkley, Bad Boys of Detroit and in with the 7’ 3 point shooters and all-star game level defense.  Then we started losing international games.  Baseball lost me when they banned Rose and Roger Clemmons.  Aside from college football, the powers that be have destroyed sports, and they are working hard to do it to college football.

Fair enough my friend but I’m not asking for advice.  I’m free to say my peace here. It’s not my intention to get noticed by anyone and as long as people are being respectful, im not going to tell them how they should respond to the issues going on in the sport or tell them to keep their opinions to themselves. I am 68 and remember watching the very first Super Bowl. However, I rarely watch the NBA or MLB. Interestingly, about 8 years ago,  I got into women's basketball. I love it. Especially my Longhorn girls. But I love the WNBA too. I go to a few Valkyries games in San Francisco. I follow all of the girls on IG, and our recruits, and have had a few conversations with a few of them. They are always appreciative of the fan support. One of the player's dads is really cool and we message each other before the games.

There is NOTHING like CFB Saturdays that start with College Gameday. Every Saturday during the season is so special. The transfer portal, along with new advertising decisions will not deter me from watching. The pageantry is simply unmatched.  Hook ‘Em!

I agree with you.  I love college football, but some of this stuff is getting completely out of hand!

The joy for me was watching hs kids grow into young men developing and playing with passion and love for the sport.  Its getting more and more like the pros where everything is about money and getting paid.  They dont care about team or the fans and alum that pour money into the program so that they have the best eqipment, coaches, facilities to become their best.  Absolutely agree that things def need to change or fans both rabid and general are gonna bail.  I dont blame them one bit.  At least theres still hs sports until they get corrupted as well.

I find it ironic that some here are calling the players mercenaries and complaining how "nobody wants to develop anymore" but are also complaining about us not getting enough Olinemen in the portal and gnashing their teeth about the prospect of *gasps* developing a left guard

Absolutely.   Just waiting for a bunch of IMG style hs start popping up all over the country.  Sped up type development and college prep for 4 and 5 star athletes feeding bigger college programs.  It a shame it has become what it has.
