Schloss: "From a defensive standpoint, that's the worst game we've played the whole season, which is super disappointing on our end. That's a very bad taste in our mouth."

I put this question in the chat yesterday about seeing a tick down on Defense because of the real grass and dirt field on Bases Loaded. You guys acted like it wasn’t a big deal because they have played a bunch of games on  those type of fields and I think it played more into the game than you thought. I agree with Schloss, worst game defensively I’ve seen all year. Don't know if it had to do with the field or the lights were too bright but either way they can’t afford for it to happen again.

Shrinking in the biggest moments has pretty much been the norm for the major 3 sports for the past 20 years.

Love CDC, but this is the one criticism you can make about his tenure at Texas.  You just wonder when it will end or if they’re just cursed in these three sports.

Eh, CDC has his guys now. It’s time for them to win. Football needed to be rebuilt fully, basketball stunk, baseball was in neutral.

“Shrinking in the biggest moments”.

All 3 sports have won conference titles, went deep in postseason play and have delivered plenty of big wins.

If losing a super regional last weekend would have been considered “shrinking in the biggest moments”, then you can’t say a win isn’t delivering in a big moment.

As Mack Brown said, “the only big games to some fans are the ones you lose.”

Off the top of my head, Borba’s error and maybe the ground ball Larson tried to field that went foul could be chalked up to the dirt. Tinney’s errors and Volantis hitting batters didn’t have anything to do with the grass and dirt.

Le sigh, I was afraid this was going to happen. Why did it have to be UGA? We’ve got to get those guys. It’s really getting annoying at this point lol.

We swept them in baseball just last year.

A rebuilt football team has three, 10 win seasons in a row and made the semifinals 2 of those 3. Basketball made the sweet 16 with a new coach and lost to the preseason #1 team at the buzzer. Schols has baseball in Omaha in year 2. I’m not sure how that’s folding. Winning a national championship ain’t going to happen every year in every sport.

Yes, true in the Sugar bowl and basketball. It’s true that they’ve owned us in big games with the most eyes the last 2 years, we just can’t seem to beat them when it matters most in big games.

Amen! By those “standard” there’s no other school that even comes close to us in getting close to multiple NCs in those sports.

In the Lady Longhorns first game of the CWS they faced a formidable Tenn squad whose pitchers and hitters seemed to have our number.  Tenn then coasted while we clawed our way up.  Turned out great.

Anything can happen.🤘

My biggest gripe with Schloss is his plate philosophy. Take alot of pitches, get the pitchers count up. That's all fine and dandy, but when everyone knows you're gonna take the 1st pitch every single time. A smart pitcher is just gonna throw one straight down the pipe and start off ahead in the count.

Nobody is saying it’ll happen every year, but evidence is on my side considering we haven’t won a natty in the big 3 in 20 years.

I don’t think the natural field played apart at all. When the catcher struggles blocking the pitch, framing the pitch, throwing the ball and actually catching the ball, that’s the real problem.   Tinney’s defensive weaknesses were magnified last night.

It was just frustrating not making an adjustment when he was throwing first pitch strikes right down the middle of the plate. That kid was good with that slider so he he could ahead in the count he had a big advantage. I could understand maybe one time through the lineup but after that especially being down a few runs you have to try to run into one and maybe change the momentum. Texas has guys that can hit the low ball and that was our chance and we never adjusted.  I just don’t understand it. You got Tulo, you got analytic guy over there and no adjustments at the plate. Most of Texas lineup isn’t going to hit good pitching so you aren’t going to stack 4-5 hits in a row off a pitcher like that.  Hitters shouldn’t have to be told. If I’m in that game I go up looking dead middle of the plate and nothing else and I’m swinging. Even my wife picked up on it after about 4-5 innings of first pitch strikes

I think Tinney blocking pitches could be attributed to the field because of the way it bounces differently on the turf that he’s used to. But that’s just my opinion, I know the field wasn’t the reason they lost I just think it played a bigger role than most people are willing to admit.

So nowhere in the presser did he ever take any ownership of that dumpster fire of a game we all had to suffer through?

He did say in his opening statement that we did an awful job of catching everybody up after the weather delay. I'm pretty sure "we" meant him and the coaching staff. Not sure what he could have done to prevent the throwing and fielding errors or Volantis hitting 4 batters.

once we gave up 4 it was hard seeing us come back with the offense we were having. My issue with schloss so far at texas is he hasn't gotten better hitters all throughout the lineup. Theres no reason Texas should have to have a lot of hitters that are similar in style and not more power hitters. arod, mendoza, larson, bacerra, pendergrass, are more similar than not. Then borba is mostly an auto out if its not a hr so adds nothing most games.

You give college pitchers too much credit. They aren’t good enough to pick and choose when to throw strikes lol.

Volchko had an out of body experience last year after an entire season where he was walking and hitting multiple batters per game. You don’t change up your entire program philosophy just because of that.
