While the Longhorns were very competitive for Monshun Sales and wanted him in the class, the heaviest focus has been on keeping Easton Royal in the fold.

So where do things stand with Texas and Royal?

OTF checked in with a few sources close to the situation on Friday morning. Here’s the latest:

Since the end of Royal’s official visit slate, the nation’s No. 1 wideout has gone somewhat radio silent in terms of communicating with college staffs. Texas, LSU and Florida all remain in the mix, with the focus seemingly narrowing to the Longhorns vs. Tigers. That doesn’t mean people in Royal’s camp aren’t communicating with each program involved, but Royal has largely taken a step back into the day-to-day conversations with college coaches.

That hasn’t kept him from keeping up a very active social media presence, showing love to each school involved, whether wearing LSU gloves and Texas cleats, or posting visit pictures, etc., etc.

One of the sources OTF communicated with this morning wasn’t sure of where things truly stood due to Royal stepping back to evaluate all of his options. While another source with direct knowledge of the five-star’s recruitment described the situation as “back and forth” while he’s in decision-making mode. That same source relayed that this is a “four quarter” situation.

What quarter are we in? I’d say probably halftime.

OTF has been adamant in reporting that regardless of whatever comes out this summer, whether Royal reaffirms his commitment to Texas or flips to LSU, this recruitment is going to December, with each program motivated to sign the Bayou State standout to their 2027 class.

Calling all the "it is just LSU mods wishcasting...he has not done anything to show he is anything but committed to Texas" crowd.

For the record, I have no idea if he stays or not, but sure hope he does. Kids enjoying the process and doing what they do does not bother me like it does others, but it is irritating to read over and over "that is just the LSU mods and national writers trying to generate clicks. He is locked in to Texas" from a certain segment of this, and other, boards. The kid is enjoying the spotlight and attention he has earned...and he is anything but "locked in" with Texas right now.

If Royal flips, does Texas go after a top guy recruited somewhere else while trying to get Royal back in the fold? Or is it Sales and/or Royal or bust?

They would stay after him and try to get him by signing day then go portal need be. There's always the possibility of a senior eval too but obviously nobody would rise to the caliber of Royal.

Before y’all start hyperventilating over Royal’s latest IG troll stunt, go watch a couple of the 2026 simulation games. They’re hilarious, they’ll distract you, and they’re a better use of time than trying to decode whatever mood Royal woke up in today.
