Let me guess….you drink alcohol like a fish, yet if an individual smokes marijuana it’s the worst thing in the world? I have 27 years in the medical field and I can tell you that alcohol is much more dangerous to the body than marijuana, it just so happens that the lobbyist got alcohol legalized.

I don't care if you smoke weed, but I don't want to smell your weed. Do I drink alcohol? Yes. I like a cold beer, but that doesn't affect you or others in anyway. But, the smell of your weed makes an impact on everyone.

Cirrhosis says hi. Long-term overuse causes problems

Cirrhosis is from extreme alcohol abuse over an extended period of time. Not short-term use, which was my point. Casual use of marijuana, not just abusive use, has been shown to have long-term effects on the brain and still-unknown psychological effects. Alcohol is metabolized in an hour. There is a difference.

I’m about 42 days clean from smoking. 30 year smoker. This new prescription stuff in Louisiana is crazy. The apothecary shop in Lafayette has to be the busiest business in town. I’m mixed on whether just anyone should be able to smoke it. If it was the old stuff we used to get no biggie but I think this new stuff might be a little much for some. I feel like the vapes thc and nicotine are what people are going to look back on in10 years and regret that they didn’t stick with flower or gummies. To each his own. I’ll dabble with it again, my problem is once I start I can’t stop. We’re all different but I know for me personally, weed is highly addictive and I’m a low performer on it. My best friend can smoke and not be addicted and remain a high performer but had to quit drinking because he’s an alcoholic. I can drink here and there and be fine. We laugh that our addictions are the exact opposite of each others.

Smoke em if you got em, drink em if you got em. Life’s short. F it

Biggest lobbyist spend to keep weed illegal in Texas - the alcohol and tobacco industries. When in doubt, follow the money.

I follow my money to the tax office.

I don't drink or smoke personally (last time I had a drink was when I turned 18 and the other time two years ago when my dad passed away). But if people want to smoke or drink, that's up to them. I'm not a fan of having to smell peoples smokes, my nonno used to smoke a pack a day and that sh*t reeked cause he smoked inside lol.

Either way, do your thing. I also don't have a problem with the adverts OTF does. Don't have to agree with them all but it's a business at the end of the day. There's overheard, there's staff to pay and things to build the brand. I'm sure everyone can understand that.

Could you share the study that “casual” use causes long term effects on the brain.

Sure, below are some articles on the growing evidence.

Now there is one caveat. These studies apply to regular, habitual users (daily), not to people who only smoked (or ate it) it occasionally, as most of us kids in the 70s did. Not only were our tokes infrequent due to strict laws and lack of supply, but it pot was 10x less potent than it is today.

Also, in no way am I saying that pot is more harmful than alcohol because the medical experts that quantify all the harmful effects of mentally altering substances say alcohol has potentially more dangerous effects on the body if abused than does marijuana. I'm just saying some studies are now showing that marijuana is not without long-term risks, even for the casual daily user: cognitively, psychologically, and physically (pneumo). And the secondhand smoke is harmful to others, just as with cigarette smoke.

So not a casual user. Kind of like someone getting drunk daily.

No, that is an abuser. Not someone like me who drinks a beer or two with my meal each day like many Europeans do. So far, my liver and chemistry are clean of any effects because the alcohol metabolizes so quickly and leaves no permanent damage that is either measurable or observable. Alcohol is not fat-soluble, so it is not stored in the brain like the narcotics and other chemicals in marijuana.

Interesting point. I too am in the medical field. While I wouldn’t condone the use of either. I can tell you for a fact we spend billions of dollars in this country due to alcohol abuse. It’s a killer

We really don’t spend any because of marijuana abuse

But I do understand there is a cost to be paid for both

I do think it’s funny when people try to paint one of the other as being better because it’s legal or or better because it’s less harmful to the body

Not sure either is true

Getting high is the same as getting drunk. Getting high daily is not casual use.

You may not be aware but you can partake in pot without getting high these days. It can take the edge off without you getting impaired. It even serves far more practical applications as an analgesic.

Why are you so passively condescending in every thread?

Not every thread, and it isn’t passive.

I think there’s an anti-pot bias with a lot of people who for some reason think alcohol is just fine. Just look at the biggest spenders trying to keep pot illegal.
