Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted 1 hour ago Moderators Posted 1 hour ago For the going to 10 personnel predominately talk ... the answer is NO The answer is no. And I get where people are coming from ... the offense is so bad right now. I do believe there is an element of going 10 personnel a lot more that could help Texas get an extra win or two potentially. But here is the NO ... you simply aren't going to win 3 or 4 CFP games in a row predominately 10 personnel. National Champions since 2010 ... I found only one team that ran a lot of 10 personnel that won it all. Clemson in 2018. That Clemson team also rushed for 248 yards per game out of 10. They were a physical team out of 10. Every other NC winning team was 10% or less in 10 personnel that I could find in my search. Ultimately, the answer is one has to have a much more physical offense and run game to attain the big prize. Rush yards per game average of NC winners since 2010: 2025 Indiana - 207.3 2024 Ohio State - 166.4 2023 Michigan - 169.3 2022 Georgia - 211.4 2021 Georgia - 188.2 2020 Alabama - 183.6 2019 LSU - 170.4 2018 Clemson - 248.1 2017 Alabama - 255.0 2016 Clemson - 165.9 2015 Alabama - 200.3 2014 Ohio State - 264.5 2013 FSU - 198.3 2012 Alabama - 222.8 2011 Alabama - 209.7 2010 Auburn - 284.8 Note: The last 22 National Champions have averaged 160 rushing yards or more per game. Here is the question for anyone old enough that watched all these teams ... were they physical on offense? The answer is yes. There were levels of physicality to a certain extent as Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh's teams were uber physical, but even the Clemson teams had the needed level of physicality. And when called up on to be physical in the run game in talent neutralized games/situations, they all had the ability to take it to another level with mentality. 5 1 Quote
RN_surgery Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Gerry, how many of those national championship teams had a part time HC, part time oc, part time special teams guy and a part time TE’s coach? I hate to be this guy but maybe we need to change our expectations from winning a championship to just making a playoff would be successful? 1 Quote
JMarquette Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I don’t think this team is going to develop physicality in 2 months, so you may as well just try to score. 7 Quote
Shmatt Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I don’t think we have much of a choice any more, especially if the OL isn’t going to improve which I don’t see them any time soon. ATP we aren’t a championship team, we just gotta call and make plays that build confidence then see what else this team can do 2 3 Quote

Guts Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Most of the people I’ve seen have said more of it, not that it should be the majority of our offense. Quote
Deej Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago 2019 LSU ran almost exclusively 11 but put Moss out wide . So while technically 11, he didn't do a whole lot of inline blocking Quote

LonghornLegends Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Do you think 12 personnel struggling also has to do with WR’s and TE’s struggling to block consistently outside of Townsend and maybe Shannon both of them block violently which is needed. 1 Quote

Arch likes to spread it out, Townsend is a good athlete, and we have plenty of talent at WR. This team is a long shot to win a conference or national championship, so play to your strengths to maximize your season. 3 Quote

And where aRe you next year? masking a few games in hopes of winning this year isn’t solving the problem But I do get where people are coming from. Im beyond masking problems 2 Quote

Im beyond masking problems We’ll deal with next year then. I fully agree that the problem needs to be addressed long term. Sark’s buyout drops to $27.5MM on 1/1/27, and will drop again in 2028. If he can’t fix it, give another coach a shot. Quote
jhookem91 Posted 57 minutes ago Posted 57 minutes ago Either that or you plug in J Christian at C, J Coleman (when healthy) at RG, and see if you can run the rock this year. Quote
Jbro52 Posted 52 minutes ago Posted 52 minutes ago I like 11 personnel role Bishop and Mosley and run the ball a little more consistently with the physicality they ve shown when they had all the time the offense will be much better off, 10 personnel is fine in occasions but not 10+ plays a game Quote
Moderators CJ Vogel Posted 23 minutes ago Moderators Posted 23 minutes ago Texas right now averaging 142.20 yards per game on the ground. 1 Quote
Alex Butler Posted 16 minutes ago Posted 16 minutes ago We can run the ball. This team is a downhill running team. No pulling or pinning just flat backs and run straight ahead. The defense is good enough that being that stubborn about the run will open things up eventually. It’s kind of going around your a$$ to get to your elbow. But leaning on teams and forcing the run and long drives has been part of a lot of the successful drives we’ve had look at TN and tOSU heck even against OU. They were dropping into coverage and if we had really stuck with the run knowing their offense couldn’t do jack against us we would’ve broken their spirit and kept the ball out of harm’s way better especially once we got ahead multiple scores. I guess we find out. I think it even goes beyond physicality. I think we have a coaching bandwidth issue both with special teams and with head coach. In our program, both are only part time positions. That isn't how most programs do it. 1 Quote
HonkEm Posted 9 minutes ago Posted 9 minutes ago Let's let our Dodd Trophy coach candidate decide that https://texaslonghorns.com/news/2026/10/13/no-7-6-footballs-sarkisian-named-to-dodd-trophy-midseason-watch-list Quote
hookem1014 Posted 7 minutes ago Posted 7 minutes ago This is common sense, but who you have as your position coaches/coordinators matters. Tashard Choice developed elite RBs at Texas. He left and there was a drop off. Sark wanted a more aggressive in your face defense…he got it with Muschamp. If you want to run the football you need an O line coach that is known for physicality. If you want clean special teams play you need one who is disciplined. If you want a great QB you need a QB coach who has a history of development. And if you want a good offense you need an OC. You can’t keep pushing the same methods and expect different results. Sark needs to make staff changes and additional hires this offseason (OC). No more excuses. If he doesn’t want to he can leave.
