I said before the season that last season was a much harder schedule to make the playoffs. Going @ Georgia and @ Ohio State, essentially guaranteed that we would have to run the table. Instead, they went out and lost to a 4 win Florida team and had one of the most miraculous wins I have ever seen against Mississippi State. They did manage to beat both rivals (I always thought they were VERY overrated last season).

This season, they somehow beat Ohio State (similar miraculous feeling as Mississippi State). Then followed it up by trying their best to convince Tennessee to beat them and did convince Oklahoma to beat them.

With two teams in two seasons that are all Sark's recruits, missing the playoffs twice in a row will make that seat quite hot. Especially if in both seasons they lose to terrible, terrible teams (OU this year included) that prevent them from getting into the playoffs. Arch Manning, 30+ million dollar roster, both rivals are bad this season....

I am currently of the belief that there isn't a coach in college that puts us in a better situation (sure as hell not Dan Lanning). Marcus Freeman should never leave Notre Dame (and he lost to Northern Illinois at home, people forget). I'm not sold on HCs in their first year having success (So far). Not sure who you would hire, but people are going to (understandably) be very unhappy about the job the HC has done the last two seasons.

We'll see if they can go on a run, sure hope so. Not saying they shouldn't force Sark to make hard decisions (that he probably won't like), but not sure exactly who you would move to. Don't want to end up like Penn State, that's for sure. Thoughts?

Mack once said if you don't want to deal with outside opinions, win 10 or more...

I totally agree. Sark will be fine, but alot of his staff won't be. Texas needs to finish 10-2 or better and make the playoffs. Sark know better than anyone that missing the playoffs would be CATASTROPHIC for him and his staff.

I definitely don’t want to see Sark at the end of the year trying to politic his way into the playoffs after a 9-3 win season.  Two years in a row doing that will not be a good look.  Either way, just making the  playoffs was not the goal this year.  Everyone expects a deep run.

With our Scedule , 9-3 is impressive.

Because that is an outdated win total and frankly CFP is the new minimum standard, especially for a program like Texas. Once the CFP increases to 24 as predicted, just making the playoff will no longer be the standard but the standard will be quarter or semifinals. Everything has to shift in terms of expectations because that is what is required.

That turned out real well, Sucked for 12 years.

You think it was going to get better?

While the hires of Charlie Strong and Tom Herman were abysmal, it doesn't mean forcing out Mack Brown was the wrong move.

This is a speculative post. As of now, Sarkisian isn't going anywhere. I know it's a what if scenario, but I don't have a lot of investment in it unless the season goes even further sideways than it has so far. I know what it looks like, but it still has to happen.

However, defending making a change by pointing out what a bad decision it was to force Mack Brown to step down when he did, makes absolutely no sense to me. The man was done, and he further demonstrated it when he went back to North Carolina.

New OC and OL.

He will not do it. Coach Barnes was told he needed to add an offensive minded assistant. He took a different job instead.

I don't think we have the field general (Arch) for a deep run.

Arch lost the OU game

Winners who are going to lead the team to a NC dont do that.

Arch does not have it and is a very slow developer. He may not get there until 3-4 years sitting on the bench in the NFL
