Holy Cow Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I agree completely @Marcus Myers. However, it was mentioned my another poster on a different BBS, Sark's identity as a HC is being an play caller. It's what he knows and I dare say finds validation in. That's why he ostensibly hired Muschamp to be on complete charge of defense. Plus, what if he does hire a play calling OC and the offense takes off? Will his ego be able to handle it? Additionally, he's so loyal to underperforming assistants (stares in the general direction of Flood and Banks) they would probably undermine the new OC. I'm just not sure anything of significance changes without Sark going. Quote
TexasLonghorns Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago By the time you’re overhauling the staff in year six, the problems usually run deeper than the assistants. Quote
SETXAN Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Sark said he earned this job because he was good at calling plays. But is he, truly? He is great at play-design and he has shown that his opening script is always on-point. They marched down the field 75 yards and I found myself ecstatic thinking that he finally unlocked it. But then when a defense makes adjustments he bangs his head on the wall for 3 of 4 quarters. He runs when he should throw and vice versa. Which has trickled down to Arch. His most successful offensive roles have been under Pete freakin’ Carroll and Nick freakin’ Saban. Two of the GOATS. He was mid at USC as HC and mid at UW as HC. At this point you remove the decorative ‘Offensive Coordinator’ title from Flood and tell him his sole focus is OL. Sark hands the sheet to Milwee in the booth to call the plays (so he can be the next scapegoat). Because if he doesn’t do something different, his photo should be placed in the Webster’s Dictionary as a prime example of “Insanity.” Quote

Deep in the heart Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I say give Milwee a chance. And Sark can groom him. He's been an OC before and we really can't do any worse than what we're doing now. Sark says he was hired because he could call plays but winning games is in his job description, not being the best play caller. Quote

You thinking Sark will be told to relieve himself of play calling duties and hire an OC in the offseason? Potentially other moves on the coaching staff? Quote

Look at Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr. Kiffin trusted a 24 year old analyst to run his offense after roughly two seasons together. Meanwhile, Milwee has worked alongside Sark for eight seasons, has six years of prior OC experience, and still isn’t calling plays. If he’s not prepared by now, that’s an indictment of Sark’s own staff development. 2 Quote

Atxdubstep Posted 38 minutes ago Posted 38 minutes ago Yesterday I saw the opening script work and then sark went back to the play calls that haven't worked. I likened it to a person who makes a face when they lie. They don't realize they make the face but everyone else knows around them knows they are lying because of the look on their face. That is how predictable Sarks play calling is. At this point, just keep playing the opening script until it doesn't work. Quote
UTTUCK Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago I've been saying this for three years now. DC's do what they are supposed to do, they make in game adjustments to stop what Texas is having success with. What Sark is not good at, especially in 2nd halves with leads, is making adjustments to their adjustments. With a lead in the 2nd half he constantly coaches "not to lose", not to win!!! He seems to having a problem extending leads, stepping on opponents necks when they are down. Instead of "all gas", he starts pumping the breaks to try and limit the number of possessions for the opponent. Quote

I truly believe it is Sark’s play calling. I’ll give you one better, his scheme may even be the issue with Flood and the OL’s issues. It appears to me that he needs too much perfection for his scheme to work. Even superior athleticism isn’t cutting it with his scheme. Arch is already dodging defenders by the time receivers even look back. When the whole world knows blitzing will neutralize Sark, DCs have there recipe. Look at Quinn with same issues against Georgia/OSU/Washington. I am hesitant to put this mess on Arch at this point. Quote

My redshirt freshman year as a linebacker at Texas was Tillman's senior year. On the field, he was an animal and not someone that made practice all that fun for a young defensive player still trying to figure out college ball. Off the field he was a fun-loving guy that always had some silly antics in the locker room and at the same time, some thought provoking words he'd speak. The latter part of that statement continues to be true to this day. His tweet below, while long, deserves its own thread, IMO. I have a suspicion that Sark had that great NC game with Bama as OC and thought “This is it!” And has spent 6 years trying to recreate that game blaming everything from personnel to defense. He’s like a heroin addict trying to recreate that first high… Quote
