Mods-A Owens vs Lacey question

Another website, whose name shall not be mentioned, has reported that Lacey has overtaken Owens as backup QB. Now the staff wants to preserve Lacey’s redshirt and give him some playing time this year but not burn his redshirt. The transfer QB was brought in to a more viable option than Owens in case of injury. According to the mod who made that comment the problem is Owens’ lack of commitment to his craft and that it is hoped that the transfer will push Owens to work harder. 
 

My question is, have any of OTF’s mods heard the same info?

I don't think we'll carry all of Manning, Owens, Lacey, and Bell in 2026. I know who I'd bet on being the odd man out.

Sounds like bs to me...but we as fans don't get to see practices, so who knows?

The “lack of commitment” report may or may not be true.  However, the same thing was said about Ewers in the Spring of 2022 and it was apparently correct.  Ewers was initially not doing what he needed to do to master his position.  He realized that and put in the work in the Spring of 2023 to become a team leader.  The point is, things can change.  There is no doubt though that Owens already has a battle on his hands with Lacey.

There were positive moments for both throughout the spring. The concern that has been mentioned to me and reiterated by Sarkisian throughout his availabilities is the consistency from the position when it isn't the first unit. 

Whether it be Owens or Lacey, routes on air, one on ones, 7v7 etc. sources throughout the spring indicated that the offense looked sharp when consistency was on the field. But that consistency became didn't necessarily grow as the spring did. Plus, having a quarterback on the roster who has played meaningful snaps before will never hurt  + pushes competition.

I think Owens will be starting for a FBS school in 2026.

All I’ve ever read from OTF is that TO has had a very good spring . I’ve always expected him to hit the portal.. haven’t heard a word about it just thought he might . He’s a drop back passer. Can sling the ball 🏈. He will be in demand.

Nobody at OTF has reported as much. Take the info you get from other outlets with a grain of salt. Especially if the outlet starts with the letter O and ends with the letter B.

I always wonder why we sling around speculation on a kid's work ethic.  To what benefit?  If TO is taking plays off or not doing the work, the coaches will know and he will be gone.  The more likely case is he's been recruited over in a room full of excellent QBs and will get a gig at a Big12 or ACC school who needs his skills.  He's got a live arm and from all reports a good head for the game.  He's on my team, so while he's here, unless heard from a coach directly, I'll assume he's doing the work demanded, if not more.

He’s an amazing athlete. Likely to windup at a school like Clemson if he chooses to go in the portal.

I am not sure how the OTF mods would feel about others posting their premium content on other platforms so I am reluctant to mention names. However, there are really only two other Longhorn websites. OTF, especially its video content, is far superior to either IT and OB. That particular nugget came from the latter.

Do you really believe Lacey has passed Owens in his first Spring Camp???    🤷🏻‍♂️

Lacey is not QB2 at this point.

Owens is.

Beyond that, there are nuances to everything. Owens had better scrimmages than practices overall but he remains QB2.
