Texas LT Trevor Goosby will be sidelined for a practice or two more according to head coach Steve Sarkisian Monday morning. Again, Goosby is not expected to miss much time and it is likely he returns before the week concludes.

However, when Goosby went down Saturday during the scrimmage, it was third-year lineman Jaydon Chatman who entered the starting lineup at left tackle.

Today, I am told there was some movement on the first team offensive line which aligns with a theory I had earlier this month in regards to Neto Umeozulu and his versatility.

The Longhorns bumped Umeozulu out to left tackle, Cole Hutson out to left guard and plugged Connor Robertson into the lineup at center according to a source. We have heard often about the cross-training ability of many offensive linemen currently in Kyle Floods' room, and this further builds on that topic with another veteran getting snaps at tackle.

Someone on another thread yesterday said that it was being reported that Neto has looked “bad” this fall. He’s so bad that they’re giving him a look at left tackle

Sark on Umeozulu today:

“When you’ve got a good fastball, you’ve got to throw a good fastball. His calling card is the physicality and the intensity with which he plays the game.”

This doesn't make much sense if Goosby is really going to be back shortly. It's bizarre.

Manufacturing depth isn't a bad thing. That's what this is.

It gives them a chance to tinker with it before it becomes reality. Something has to change if he actually sustains injury during the season.

You think that's what this is? Moving the starting LG and C to new spots because the starting LT is "hurt for a few days" is "manufacturing depth" to you? Okay then.

They have Nick Brooks as a flex Tackle. Omeozulu hasn't taken reps at Tackle in 3 years. Now he's the fill-in LT if Goosby is down for awhile?

The only reason this move, right now, makes any sense is because someone is more seriously injured than the staff is letting on to the public. There is no other rationalization that makes any sense and "manufacturing depth" certainly isn't one.

And what if Nick Brooks rolls his ankle in mop up duty against SHSU? They are just working on contingencies.

Yes, I think that is exactly what it is. Allow your best 5-7 to stay on the field as long as you can regardless of who is injured.

Texas did this exactly when Jake Majors and Cam Williams went down against Clemson. Hayden Conner moved in to center, Cole Hutson came in at left guard and Trevor Goosby was plugged in at right tackle. Texas can do exactly that if faced with injuries during the season now.

I disagree. It DOES make sense. You have to experiment now while you can I see it in real time and incase of emergency.

They’re not walking into the Horseshoe thinking a True Freshman is about to be able to handle that.

Are you sure Neto hasn't taken any reps at tackle in 3 year or are you just speculating? I know he took some snaps last year at both tackle spots.

I get it, dude, you've been told that there is nothing to see here, so, hey, nothing to see here.

You have no clue whether Omeozulu makes any sense at Tackle whatsoever. He's rarely played Guard and was allegedly being pressed there. Now he's the next best option at LT after not repping there since HS? I guess, maybe, but what's happening here is removing gelling reps from 3 different positions because one has an injury that appears more serious than anyone is letting on. It's a bizarre move. The situation you reference last year was one made out of desperation. That's fine if that's the case here as well, but your initial post doesn't indicate that there's anything of concern.

Anyone not looking at this and thinking, "huh, this is weird and probably raises some red flags" isn't actually thinking.

You need to find a corner and go sit down! Let the coaches make those decisions. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

Zero reps? No. But he's never been a regular at Tackle for reps. The guy is trying to make the starting rotation at Guard for a second consecutive season, for God's sake. Now everyone is just cool with the notion of him whipping over to OT for "manufacturing depth"? Right.

Have you attended any practice the last 3 years?
