Weekly thread for "Second Watch" with Babers & Howe?

@Jeff Howe, any chance we can get a thread on the board for Second Watch (or whatever it's going to be called going forward)?

It's one of my favorite OTF features.

I know y'all can't share video, but it would be awesome if you could reference game clock times for specific formations, schemes etc.

I ask, because Rod mentioned 14 personnel and I totally missed that watching in DKR and when I watched the ABC broadcast.

It was Texas lined up on 1-yard line with Townsend in the backfield.

I just finished the State of the Program video and immediately went to watch the run game. The run game flaws were do to running back vision just as much if not more than blocking. We missed Wisner that game. On the second drive of the game, I forget which back was in, but on 1st and 10 we gain 2 yards where if the back cuts outside between the TE/T it's blocked for 5-7 yards.  The next play the line gets push but the back is dancing in the whole instead on putting his foot in the ground. He gained 5, where Tre would have gotten 15. There's many like that throughout the game. The line whiffed here and in on run blocks, but it was better than most give credit for.

After all the talk we heard about Clark being explosive and looking good, his actual play was just bad. He had holes and creases, but he danced around and got tackled. Hopefully it was a literal jitters thing and he'll actually run up field.

Tre would of had 130 easy that game.

Do we know what is keeping Wisner out? I know they said lower leg, but that's pretty general.

We won't know until SEC play Sark isn't going to give us much. But I don't expect many explosive runs until he comes back, Baxter isn't an explosive back he's a bruiser and inside/gap scheme back.

James Simon is. That is one back we need to see early if we want to identify a backup to Wisner.

Vision is something you have or you don't. If Simon has it, contrary to how many here feel here, this is the line you want to run behind. 🤣 Arch however, may have nightmares for awhile.

re: clark, i'm hoping it was first game jitters.  Gerry said he had the most violent one-cut ability of any of the backs we had last year.  That was pre-injury, so hopefully, it will come back as he gets more comfortable.  wouldn't give up on him just yet, but hopefully, james simon gets some touches as well!

It's silly to give up on anyone on this roster right now, those who do, will always be looking for the next best thing.

Two of our top three RBs are coming off injuries that have ended other football careers.  I'm waiting for more game reps.

You guys highlighted the TE’s today as maybe a team strength. I think you forgot to include TE blocking which most certainly is not a team strength.

Yes. He was in on the Jerrick Gibson fumble late in the game.

@Rod Babers  is there a way to take advantage of corners playing this far off? I just went through every offensive snap and OSU routinely had corners 9-10 yds off. 
 

Sometimes I think Sark views his offense as a symphony, where every route is in perfect harmony with one another. But I see corners 10 yard off and I think why not just get the ball to the receiver in space? Step and throw at 1yd and let our guys make a play. Spam it until they change their coverage.  It doesn’t always have to be a beautiful symphony.
