Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted 13 hours ago Moderators Posted 13 hours ago Per more than one college coach in both football and basketball, coaches are expecting the NCAA five years to play rule to be announced soon. When that is - some believe could be prior to basketball season. What it means is no more redshirt years. A college athlete will have five years to play, period. There are a number of ways to put those five years together, ie... two years at JUCO and three DI, etc... How that could effect the Texas football or basketball teams this year (all sports). Someone that is in year four right now, and currently scheduled to run out of eligibility after the 2025 football season ... are expected to get a fifth year. So a player such as DJ Campbell, Cole Hutson, Travis Shaw, Ethan Burke in football would have another year if they desired or were wanted by Texas. In hoops, Chendall Weaver and Jordan Pope would be eligible. 20 Quote
Quinncent McManning, Jr. Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago So does that mean that Pavia can’t play college ball until he gets Social Security benefits? 2 10 Quote

Bobby Burton Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago What’s sad about this is, it’s just more bs until they collectively bargain. Because five years won’t be any more defensible then than it is now. The NCAA is allegedly having all sorts of issues defending itself in the Pavia case which is before the court now. 1 Quote

HookedOnTF Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Any idea if a medical extension will still be possible? Not a wild scenario for a guy with pro prosoects to lose year 4 in game 2 to injury, and then something else happens in fall camp year 5... needs to get back on the field for draft purposes. But I guess there has to be a limit at some point. Quote
Neil Leininger Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Weaver could use a 5th year if he shows legitimate growth under Miller this season. He's athletically ready for professional basketball, but skills wise he could use another year. Quote
