  1. It should come as little surprise, but for those thinking that Texas may attempt to rekindle a game with Texas Tech, Baylor, or any other Big 12 team soon, I am told don't hold your breath. According to a high-ranking university source, the riff between Texas and the Big 12 has not ebbed in recent months, even if it is no longer a major topic within the athletic department. Brett Yormark's public pre-season comments in Lubbock and those of deputy Big 12 commissioner Tim Weiser on radio row at Big 12 media days still echo in the memories of Texas power brokers. Those words and actions have swayed the current University of Texas athletic leadership to no longer genuinely contemplate playing any former Big 12 school in football or basketball. Not for the foreseeable future. When Texas (and Oklahoma) first accepted the invitation to move into the SEC, Tech attempted to publicly negotiate an agreement with the Horns to continue playing an annual football game. The Red Raiders can now put those plans in the rear-view mirror. "It's just not going to happen," the source said of any Big 12 teams on the future schedule in football or basketball. "The Big 12 made their bed." The attitude of others toward Texas apparently plays a role in that decision. "We're the bad guys," the source said. "We're always the bad guys when all we want is what's best for us. Any one of them would have done the same if they had gotten the invite (to the SEC) that we did." View full news
  2. Sure. Hopefully before the post-season.
  3. I don’t think so. I think Texas is focused on 2025 class now. He would also have to first enter himself in the portal since he signed with Alabama.
  4. That was a butt whooping!
  5. You’d have to ask Sam. But Texas is not pushing for a commitment early. Perhaps Tech is?
  6. Unbelievable. All the feels.
  7. He likes Texas. He’s expected back in March.
  8. Agree with Ryan on this.
  9. Ha. Just old school lockers my wife had in the garage that we used to put sports equipment in. Hope everyone has fun with friends and family today for the Super Bowl. I’ve already started slow-cooking the chili here at the house!
  10. I don’t. But I’m also not a coach that has to make that decision.
  11. I’d go with Filsaime at this point.
  12. Williams wants to play safety. Some coaches are willing to go there and others aren’t.
  13. Love this type of comment. All the nooks and crannies of the back roads of the state of Texas.
  14. Texas had success with Simms at QB. His tenure really put Texas back among the nation’s elite. He may not have broken through for that final championship but he certainly helped Texas get back into that conversation.
  15. Texas basketball moved to 16-8 yesterday. The Horns put together their most complete game of the year, a 94-58 throttling at home of West Virginia. The Mountaineers aren’t very good. But Texas hasn’t been “very good” much of this season. They’ve been average to above average. They’ve lost games they should have won, won games they probably should have lost, etc. In other words, it’s been a somewhat typical basketball year. But they’ve played a decent brand of ball the past three weeks, with the exception of an ugly loss to Iowa State last week. Maybe the Horns are starting to put it together down the stretch. ** Here’s a prediction: Texas recruiting is going to be a slow burn. Again. It’s the Sarkisian way. In other words, Texas isn’t pushing for commitments despite the fact that there are several recruits on the cusp of a commitment to the Horns. Texas will continue its outreach and recruiting through the month of February and into early March. There may be one or two more commitments between now and then. However, I think the March 23 timeline is where we’ll see more movement in the 2025 recruiting class. That’s the weekend when Texas will next invite a number of elite recruits back to campus. So for now, we’re largely in a monitoring the moves behind the scenes, who Texas is setting up for those visits, the communication going on behind the scenes, and how the Longhorn recruiting board is truly netting out. Again, Sark feels no need to rush things. And that has worked well for him during his time in Austin thus far. There’s no reason to think it won’t continue to work in the future, too.

  17. What you’re discussing is partly what my attempt was done for. I’m trying to figure out where rankings went right or wrong so that we can see things in the future.
  18. It happened. Unfortunately. I hope, as he gets older, fences can be mended. He played hard and played well for Texas. Was he perfect? No. But he was very much a big part of putting Texas football among the nation’s elite. And he doesn’t get enough, or even much, credit for that.
