  1. With OU whiffing so badly on the initial OT recruiting, they literally have to win one (or both) of Rogers and Fasusi. They’ll be the highest bidder, with aggy hot on their tail.
  2. Maybe the author thought he was mocking the MLB draft?
  3. So what does that tell you about Brown’s decision making criteria? And about who is making the decisions for him? If the kid schedules an OV to a school the week of the visit, and hadn’t even had OU in his top 5 before that, what do you think motivated this OV to Oklahoma? I don’t think it is a coincidence that Brown and mom schedule an OV to the school that just won a very public DT recruitment / NIL auction just a few weeks before (Damonic Williams). It would suggest to me that Brown’s circle is fully aware of which schools are most motivated $$ to obtain elite DT talent. And that also informs me of who and how the final decision is likely to be influenced. Now that all the bids are now in, the circle will make the decision.
  4. The same date as Zion Williams is probably a clue to the outcome here.
  5. @Blake Munroe any update on the Belyeu rumors?
  6. When J.Antoine de-commited from LSU last week and Miami was the likely landing spot for the flip, this scenario became predictable.
  7. He’ll be cut 3 minutes after his father retires or chooses to leave the Lakers. Lebron is far more interested in enhancing his personal brand than about winning at this stage of his career, and he wants the made-for-TV moments of playing with his son on a nationally televised Lakers game(s). The NBA’s first father-son alley oop on a Christmas Day Lakers vs Celtics telecast. Oh the showmanship!! The inmates have been running the asylum in the NBA for years, but this is next level. Contrived entertainment and personal aggrandizement masquerading as an athletic competition…today’s NBA.
  8. Guessing hoops here
  9. Is “heads-up” what we say when a “hi” becomes public?
  10. Was that Rufus Harris?
  11. Yep, it’s always been an NIL recruitment, and OU has whiffed on all their other highly ranked Tackle recruits this cycle.
  12. Fun topic. My HS football highlights include getting run over by Barry Foster (Duncanville) on a kick return TD. But I redeemed myself weeks later by getting behind Merton Hanks (Lake Highlands) for a long TD catch. Both went on to be NFL All-Pros. In HS basketball, I was just happy to be a Guard when we played against Larry Johnson (aka Grandma Ma) for Skyline, so I didn’t have to go anywhere him on the court. LJ dunked like nobody I’ve ever seen, even in the lay-up lines during warm-ups.
  13. Yeah, this one feels like a big one.
  14. What exactly is DL “development” to you? Break it down by percentage: 1. Natural athletic talent / DNA of player 2. Player’s mentality / drive to maximize their physical talent 3. Strength & Conditioning program 4. DL position coaching How much of a DL player’s development to becoming an NFL player is attributable to the DL position coaching (#4)? I think most NFL GMs and scouts will tell you that the combination of #1 and #2 are by far the most important attributes they look for in an NFL DL prospect. In fact, they will tell you that #4 is fairly meaningless because they will expect their own DL coach to teach the techniques that comprise their defensive schemes once they get to the NFL. Further, how differentiated is the DL position coaching among P5 DL coaches? Does Bo Davis teach different hand placement, pad level, first step, leverage, and rush technique any differently than 90% of the other P5 DL coaches? Probably not much. Teaching the specifics of the DL techniques required of the defensive scheme is important, but not very differentiated among P5 DL coaches / techniques. In other words, being taught to play the 3-technique DT in a base 4-3 Under scheme is going to be largely the same across all teams that play that scheme. There’s not much differentiation in the position teaching at all. If any. So, it should be clear that measuring a P5 DL coach is as much about their ability to identity elite athletic talent traits (#1) combined with the mental eval to identify those recruits who will be personal maximizers (#2). In addition, the S&C program (#3) that focuses on the position-specific physical development of the player is the next most important determinant of player performance on-field. If you want to evaluate a DL coach, apply the proper metrics of success and not the armchair evaluation of “gee, we had two DL drafted highly so our DL coach must be great”.
  15. Bo Davis was the DL coach at Texas for six seasons (2011-2013, and again from 2021-2023). How many players did he recruit that “developed” into NFL players in those six seasons? Answer: Just one. H.Ridgeway. I guess it takes more than six seasons to make an impact?
  16. If Bo recruited worth a damn in his three seasons at Texas, we wouldn’t have needed to pursue Jay Toia or Damonic Williams. Here are the DL Texas landed under three full seasons of Bo Davis’ recruiting at Texas: 2022: J.Finkley, K.Ross, A.Bryant, J.Bledsoe, Z.Swanson 2023: S.Mitchell, T.Carter (portal) 2024: A.January (a Texas legacy), and M.Hills That’s it. An atrocious recruiting track record over a full three year cycle. Just for comparison, the school 100 miles to the east landed five 5-star DL and another 3 national top 100 DL over the same 3-year period. The whole “Bo Davis is a great developer” is equally laughable. Coburn and Ojomo spent most of the their career time at Texas under a different DL coach than Bo Davis, and B.Murphy was an NFL DT the instant he stepped on campus. I’ll give Davis credit for pushing Sweat to finally realize his God-given talent in his fifth season, but I’ll also counter with Bo’s complete inability to get anything out of highly regarded recruits like A.Collins, V.Broughton, and J.Bledsoe. Bo Davis’ career reputation is purely a function of right place, right time. He worked for Saban at LSU, then again for Saban at Bama (twice). Exactly how difficult is it to recruit highly regarded DL prospects and “develop” those studs into NFL players when you’re part of peak Saban machine at Bama? Did Bama’s DL recruiting and development suffer after Bo left for Texas (2011-2013), or for the NFL (2016-2020)? Answer: not in the slightest. Bama landed more 5-star DL and produced more NFL DL over those years than any other school in college football without Bo. And how did Bo Davis recruit and develop DL talent in his first three year stint at Texas under Mack Brown (2011-13)? He signed 4 DL: Alex Norman, Paul Boyette, Shiro Davis, and H.Ridgeway. That’s it. One single DL who panned out and contributed in three recruiting classes. So, predictably, Bo Davis leaves Texas again after all the DL talent he inherited (Sweat, Murphy, Coburn, Ojomo, etc) are out of eligibility at Texas. And he leaves the cupboard so bare that Texas has had to recruit 3 DL out of the portal since we walked off the Sugar Bowl field in our last game. THREE! It’s not at all a surprise to me that Davis and Texas parted ways after the 2023 season, you can only avoid the Peter Principle for so long.
  17. Is it JuJu’s turn?
  18. Well, there’s a bit more to it than that. They were heckling O’Sullivan because he was having an affair with the batboy’s mother. The woman’s husband found out about the affair and killed his two sons (one of which was the batboy) and himself. An incredibly tragic situation and unspeakably sad. But of course a couple of aggys thought this would be heckling material at a CWS game on national TV. Aggys never fail at an opportunity to disgrace themselves or the great state of Texas.
  19. We’re going to have to beat UGA in Atlanta for the title. LFG!
  20. I assume the Miami NIL check bounced (or something like that)?
  21. We should provide hard copies to every aggy we know.
  22. Damn, RIP. He was a true original both on and off the court. The very definition of a free spirit.
  23. There’s a pretty good chance we won’t even play aggy in this regional. If we lose to Louisiana (they’re the #2 seed and a really good team), we probably face Grambling in the losers bracket. A win against Grambling and we like face Louisiana again in the elimination game (with our #3 starter on the bump…LBJ).
  24. He was doing the James Bond with a Walter PPK pose when celebrating his TD in the Spring game, so we may as well add some musical accompaniment.
