  1. LOL - I'm so old (as are a handful of others here) that I remember the 1969 "Game of the Century". # 1 Texas vs # 2 Arkansas, President Nixon in the stands, Texas rallied from a 14-0 deficit to win late 15-14, keyed by a fourth down 44 yard pass (the forward pass had recently been invented). I wasn't even a student at Texas then (I came 4 years later for grad school) but I still remember that game. According to Wikipedia (so who knows how accurate) "With a Nielsen rating of 52.1 (a 74 share), this was and remains as of 2023, the highest TV rating in American football history, college or professional."
  2. Was DeAndre Moore (3 snaps) injured?
  3. And as everyone knows ESPN predictions are never wrong, so can we just put the trophy on display now?
  4. Hmm ... I got the '2 games' from the official Texas Sports website.
  5. Mitchell has only appeared in two of the first four games, so he must be frustrated at not getting in even during 40 point blowouts. Hopefully he gets it together, gets in game shape and starts getting reps, but yeah, if he's arguing with coaches or teammates it's hard to see him here long term.
  6. Thanks for posting the ESPN link, cool story. I like seeing the Arizona guys doing well with their UT connections (so many have bombed at Texas the past decade - Connor Brewer, Jake Smith, Brayden Liebrock, Zach Swanson). The way I remember the Bijan - Matthew origin story McConaughey introduced himself to Bijan (I think during a recruiting trip, or maybe once he arrived as a frosh?) and Bijan said later he had no idea who he was. "I never watched any of his movies, he was just some random dude to me." Glad to see the bromance is paying off now.
  7. (Quoting myself) - Boom, the first three runs after halftime Blue goes for 38 yards. I'm glad the coaches take time to read these message boards at the half and figure out where the problems are (lol).
  8. Bowling Green is a tough out !! If they lose this one, at home, it will be hilarious.
  9. Texas is ripping off 3.4 yards per rush by the way. That sucks. (18 carries, 61 yards - Blue 15 for 66 yards, Gibson 2 for -1, Arch 1 for -4) What's going on with our run game? I understand it against Michigan but at some point soon we have to run the ball better, no?
  10. Announcers said 90% of Michigan's runs were between the tackles. Wow
  11. I know he stayed (we need a Sarkasm font), but as Coach Saban might say "They paid the wrong guys"
  12. If only Bear Alexander had stayed at USC imagine how good their DL would be ...
  13. He was far enough 'under the weather' last weekend that he missed the tailgate, so let's hope he's still not feeling ill. Giving him a mulligan on this one (unless he's actually at a golf course taking mulligans as we wait).
  14. On his 51 yard catch and run against UTSA WR Isaiah Bond became the first player to cross the 22 mph mark this season, making him the fastest player in college football thus far. A Worthy accomplishment 🙂 Nine other players have reached 21 mph this season (we only face one of them, from Florida). From the article on 247 at this link: 1. Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas (22.1 MPH) Bond became the first college football player to hit 22 MPH this season during a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter of Texas' 56-7 win over UTSA in Week 3. The Longhorns boast some serious team speed. Backup quarterback Arch Manning hit 20.7 MPH on a 67-yard touchdown scamper against the Roadrunners. Running back Jaydon Blue hit 22.3 last season, while freshman wide receiver Ryan Wingo was officially clocked at 20.6 MPH as a senior in high school.
  15. Hill is credited with a TFL, so maybe the stat guy thought it wasn't a passing play and credited Hill with a TFL instead of a sack?
  16. Noticed we play five teams in or near that bottom left bad-bad quadrant and none of the other four teams in that upper right good-good quadrant 🙂
  17. Nice work, thanks for posting this. Something similar from 247, the "Team Talent Composite", which looks at every scholarship player currently on the rosters (including transfers) and ranks accordingly. Bet you can guess who the top 2 are without looking. Texas is # 4. https://247sports.com/Season/2024-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite/
  18. 106 mph in a 2018 Jeep Cherokee? Imagine what that cat could do in a Lambo! $50 bond, lesson learned - that will teach him! From an article in the Athens Banner-Herald: Cornerback Daniel Harris was stopped on the Georgia 10 loop at College Station Road driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee 106 miles per hour - 41 miles over the speed limit - while passing two other vehicles on a wet road in the rain at 8:03 p.m., according to an incident report obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald. The speed was indicated by Dragon Eye Lidar. The sophomore from Miami was pulled over by Athens-Clarke County police and booked into the Clarke County Jail at 10:40 p.m. and released at 11:49 p.m. on $50 in bonds, according to the online booking report.
  19. "Arkansas showed signs of being the same old Arkansas against Oklahoma State with the way they lost that game with more than 200 yards of total offense." A typo or something? Arkansas ran for 232 yards and passed for 416 yards, so over 600 yards of total offense against OSU ...
  20. "Newcomer" to that team ... I mean, Brandon Jones got it too 🙂
  21. I think Bobby said you have 10 minutes to edit after you post. After that, no changes.
  22. Yep. Makes you really appreciate the Texas receivers, who can at least get separation and catch the ball. I don't watch much college football besides Texas and maybe one other big weekly game, but watching this one brings home the fact that there are a lot of mediocre teams out there. I don't think there's another player on the field from either team who would have been recruited by Texas.
  23. Sorry I started this post guys. A lot of BAD football being played tonight 🙂 Muffed punt, blocked punt, missed 32 yard FG to tie the game ... tied game at 13-13 as I type this (of course - bad football so why not play OT?) Maalik almost lost the game when he appeared to fumble on the final drive but it was overturned upon review. Then with first down at I think the 13 and a minute to go he misses a wide open receiver in the end zone, then a decent run by a RB to about the 5 yard line, then a completed pass for -2 yards and a short FG to go to OT. At the end of regulation Maalik's passing numbers are 21/36 (58%) for 192 yards, 5.3 ypa, 1 TD, 1 INT. Could have had at least one more INT, should have had at least one more TD. When Maalik has time to throw and the first option is open he does fine but when the play breaks down he struggles.
  24. Nerd bowl alert, played in the pop up stadium on the shores of Lake Michigan. Go Maalik. This game is starting in about half an hour. Hopefully you have something better to do on a Friday night, but if not this is your game thread! 🙂
