When they discussed this earlier it was mentioned the league would revisit the "permanent three" every four years (after the home/away is done with the rotating 12) and adjust if someone ended up with too brutal a grouping. The goal would be to try to keep it fairly even SOS wise. This was from an article in The Athletic - so the league is aware of the potential problem.

The numbers wouldn't work out as cleanly for a 9 game conference schedule with 4 permanent. You'd have 4 permanent + 5 rotating but there would be 11 alternate year teams so you wouldn't get to play every team home/away every four years. Three permanent + 6 rotating among the 12 remaining teams would be symmetrical - perfect.

I love it! Every four years play the other 6 teams home and away, the way it should be. Did they announce who our three annual rivals are? OU and A&M for sure, # 3 is hopefully Mississippi State? I thought of Tom when I read Archie's remark to Arch - 'get down or get out of bounds'. If you win the conference championship you're guaranteed to be in the playoffs. If you don't you are at the mercy of the committee. Sure, go 10-2 or something like that in the Big 10 or SEC, with at least a couple quality wins, and you are most likely in. But if you are borderline?

Could have been an anomaly given that Arizona State and Boise State were only in because of the since-ditched rule about 4 conference champs getting byes. And both were solid underdogs in those games. Georgia lost their starting QB coming in to this game, I think Stockton was making his first start. So they had an excuse. And Oregon - well ok, good point. Bad luck facing a rematch against a buzz saw OSU in-conference rival? But yeah, they looked bad. Sorry Joe Z Let's wait until after this year's CFP, when the top four seeds get the byes, and see if it holds up again? I would expect the (actual) top four seeds to do better this year, but maybe you are right. We'll see.

I remember Sark was recruiting him really hard, and Sayin was liking what he heard, given Sark's rep for QB development. Then Arch committed to Texas (with just a one year gap to Sayin) and both sides kind of moved away from the recruitment. Had Arch not stuck with Texas it sure looked like Sayin was Sark's top pick in the next class - all this talk about his shortcomings is funny, we would have taken him in a heartbeat under different circumstances.
