    I was able to catch up a little with Bobby. That is always nice. My wife is still learning about my love of Texas football (She is from Mexico) but she is starting to get it. She spent some time coaching Volleyball in Monterrey, so maybe I will surprise her with a Texas VB this year. I have always been a fan of Malcolm Brown. When I was coaching, I had to scout a team that Cibolo Steele played. He was a man playing against children. One of my good friends was the defensive coordinator at Steele and always had great things to say about Malcolm as a person...he also coached the Sterns brothers (Jordan and Caden). Hopefully OTF will make more trips to SA

    Sad to report on the passing for former West Columbia coach, Jack Hays. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor and was well respected by his peers. He was my cousin and spent his some of his childhood chumming with my father. Both were coaches and both in the Hall of Honor. His daughter, Jenna Hays McEachern has written about Texas football and is as much of a source on information as her friend Bill Little. Condolences of his kids Jack Jr., Jenna and Colonel Jeff Hays Jeff Hays spent many years coaching at Air Force Academy after graduating from there. Service details are pending

    My teammate Duane Miller who was a three-year letterman at guard. (1987-1990) I had to go head-to-head with him on a daily basis and usually had to take a handful of Motrin afterwards. His then girlfriend (now wife) made some killer chicken spaghetti. Super nice guy. Became Todd Dodge's OL coach when he was a Rockwall and left coaching to become an attorney. Going back to old school guys: Bruce Scholtz, Mark Lang, The "smurfs" (Billy Boy Bryant, Russell Hays, and Brent Duhon), Mike Reuther, John Hains, Eric Holle, Johnny Walker

    The only bowl game I was ever directly associated with was our 1991 game versus Miami. The number one lesson learned is keep focus on the task at hand. we had not been to a Cotton Bowl since the 1984 game versus Georgia. Many of the guys had the attitude “We are happy to be here” The team was more interested in things like “what color of shoes are we going to wear”. (I kid you not) and weather or not we could get an extra set of warmups instead of the traditional Stetson cowboy hat. Bowl gifts are nice but a win would have been nicer. My brother still has his Stetsons from the 1982 and 1984 Cotton Bowls. My 1991 warmups eventually wore out and ended up in the Goodwill box about ten years ago Hook’em

    I remember North Shore had a RB the same year Bijan was a senior. He got kicked off his team before the state championship. One school revoked his offer and he ended up at TCU. I remember him playing but never reached the level of Bijan. Bijan is a good human so there is that
