  1. A look at the Texas snap counts vs. Ohio State on Saturday. *** Defense Out of 59 defensive snaps. 59 – Jelani McDonald, Michael Taaffe 55 – Malik Muhammad 54 – Anthony Hill Jr. 45 – Jaylon Guilbeau 39 – Liona Lefau 37 – Ethan Burke, Hero Kanu, Trey Moore 35 – Colin Simmons 30 – Maraad Watson 26 – Alex January 24 – Cole Brevard 21 – Ty'Anthony Smith 19 – Travis Shaw, Graceson Littleton 16 – Kobe Black 12 – Derek Williams Jr. 7 – Lance Jackson 6 – Zina Umeozulu 5 – Brad Spence 4 – Colton Vasek 3 – Xavier Filsiame, Justus Terry Texas only deployed 24 players on the defensive side of the ball in the season opener, right where I expected them to be. I did not expect to see 37 snaps from Hero Kanu, leading the way for the interior defensive linemen. 19 snaps for Graceson Littleton is a number that rivals Colin Simmons vs. Michigan and Anthony Hill vs. Alabama, a great sign for the frosh. *** Offense Out of 67 offensive snaps. 67 – Ryan Wingo, Brandon Baker, Trevor Goosby, Arch Manning, DJ Campbell, Cole Hutson 65 – Parker Livingstone 60 – Jack Endries 56 – Connor Stroh 51 – DeAndre Moore 41 – Quintrevion Wisner 26 – CJ Baxter 19 – Spencer Shannon 11 – Neto Umeozulu 3 – Jordan Washington 2 – Daylan McCutcheon 1 – Nick Townsend Four tight ends saw time on the field. Only two running backs were on the field for the offense. With how often Texas was under center, I was surprised to not see any 2-back looks from Sarkisian.
  2. A bright note from Arch was the deep ball, as expected. On passes 20+ yards down the field per PFF: 3-6 passing 90 yards 1 TD 1 INT average distance of target was 30.3 yards
  3. Week ones are good for overreactions and out of proportion takes that typically don't age well, so read into this as you wish. However, when scouring over the numbers and tape again this morning, there was a clear part of the passing game that felt worse than others – play action passes. The numbers back it up too. *** Arch on Play Action Pass Attempts 10 drop backs 5-10 passing 26 yards 2.6 yards per attempt 1 INT 2 turnover worthy plays Arch on Straight Drop Backs 24 drop backs 12-20 passing 144 yards 7.4 yards per attempts 1 TD 0 turnover worthy plays Perhaps part of the offensive struggles on play action snaps include the average distance of target. On PA snaps, Arch's average distance of target was 11.9, compared to 8.8 on straight drop backs. *** We will see over the next three weeks how this trend continues, but file this one in the growing "Didn't Expect That" folder from the season opener.
  4. Anthony Hill Jr. says he knew what was coming on the 4th down conversion and just missed Donaldson in the hole.
  5. Ethan Burke says the goal of the Texas defense is to force three turnovers each game.
  6. Liona Lefau says it was unfortunate his hands hit the facemask of an OSU OL. Was trying to shed a block and his hands got too high.
  7. CJ Baxter: "We will bounce back, it is a super long season."
  8. CJ Baxter says he felt comfortable back returning kicks and said the value of special teams in the program is key and he wanted to be a big piece of that third of the ball.
  9. Arch Manning says it was man coverage on the INT, and he forced it. Says he wish he took off or found someone else.
  10. Ethan Burke: “this isn’t the end of our journey” Burke says he is pumped to get back to work on Monday and Tuesday.
  11. Sarkisian says again that incorporating more Arch QB runs might be best in the future.
  12. Sark on Arch: "The expectations were out of control on the outside, but I’d say let’s finish the book before we judge it. This is one chapter and we have a long season to play."
  13. Sark says he sat with Arch at Halftime to discuss who to view different coverages. Sark added it was encouraging to see the growth in the second in live time. "We are going to be fine... I am getting on the plane knowing we are going to be a good football team."
  14. Sarkisian says these are two really good teams and he would not be surprised to see Ohio State again.
  15. Sarkisian: "From an offensive line perspective, we did a nice job." Sarkisian says the worst communication Texas had all day was on the 4th down on the final drive where the OL did not slide to reach the free rusher as expected.
  16. Sarkisian: "I thought the demeanor of the offense was good. I thought Arch's poise and composure were really good in this game. I didn't feel like he got rattled."
  17. Sarkisian points to Trevor Goosby , Arch Manning, and DeAndre Moore as guys in the locker room who the team will lean on in the locker room offensively.
  18. Sark: Most encouraging part of today was the ability to run the football.
  19. Sarkisian says they had really been working on their sneak stuff, OhioState did a great job getting under the offensive linemen and prevented the push. Sark said they wanted to go quick in those instances to prevent tOSU from putting in their real big DL.
  20. On the deep ball early to Ryan Wingo, Sarkisian says the guys in the booth were expecting a flag for holding. There was nothing called.
  21. "I thought Parker Livingstone was what I was expecting." Sarkisian says it was tough for DeAndre Moore to get invovled based off of the Ohio State defensive approach.
  22. Sarkisian said he liked the game plan to start the game, but there was a lack of rhythm offensively that stalled drives.
  23. "He settled into playing." Sarkisian says for Arch Manning he really gets into playing when he gets hit and feels the game of football. He pondered incorporating more run plays earlier into games.
