  1. PFF ranked the Top 10 WR corps in college football. The Longhorns come in at No. 5 and 60% of the list is from the SEC. Texas will face two of the top 10 teams.
  2. Not a good start. Gotta have that QB mentality. Forget about it and move on.
  3. Early bettors are favoring SEC quarterbacks in the 2024 Heisman Trophy race. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is the current favorite at +750 just ahead of Texas QB Quinn Ewersat +800 and new Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel at +900. Beck has gotten the most bets at BetMGM so far with 10% of wagers. Those bets make up 11% of the money bet so far. Ewers, meanwhile, is getting the most money (13.6% of the handle). That’s slightly more than Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at 13%. Georgia is also the preseason national title favorite and it’s a smart play to go with the quarterback of a potential national title team as your Heisman pick. Five of the last seven Heisman winners were on teams that made the College Football Playoff, though 2022 winner Caleb Williams and 2023 winner Jayden Daniels weren’t on playoff teams. Beck was 302 of 417 passing for 3,941 yards and 24 TDs in his first year as Georgia’s starter in 2023. Ewers had a breakout season in 2023 with 3,479 yards and 22 TDs across 12 games. He made the decision to come back to school for another year as Arch Manning will back him up with the Longhorns. If you agree that Beck and Ewers are the two favorites for the Heisman, then Oct. 19 will be a big day in the race for the trophy. Georgia visits Texas in Week 8, just three weeks after the Bulldogs are at Alabama. Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart has moved from +2000 to +1500 as 7% of bets are on him to win the Heisman. The Rebels are a candidate for the playoff in the first year of the 12-team format and have a real chance to make the SEC title game. Ole Miss gets Georgia at home in addition to Oklahoma and doesn’t have to play Texas, Alabama or Missouri. All the favorites are quarterbacks Oddsmakers do not like the chances of a non-quarterback winning the award at the moment. Just four non-quarterbacks have won the Heisman in the 2000s: USC RB Reggie Bush in 2005, Alabama RB Mark Ingram in 2009, Alabama RB Derrick Henry in 2015 and Alabama WR DeVonta Smith in 2020. There are currently 19 quarterbacks with better odds to win the Heisman than the highest non-QB on the board. That player is Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon at +4000. He has the same odds as Kansas QB Jalon Daniels and is just ahead of Utah QB Cam Rising at +5000. 2024 Heisman favorites Georgia QB Carson Beck (+750) Texas QB Quinn Ewers (+800) Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (+900) Alabama QB Jalen Milroe (+1000) Ohio State QB Will Howard (+1400) Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (+1500) Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava (+1600) LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (+1800) Miami QB Cam Ward (+2000) Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard (+2500) Arizona QB Noah Fifita (+2500) Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold (+2500) Missouri QB Brady Cook (+2500) Kansas State QB Avery Johnson (+2500) Texas A&M QB Conner Whitman (+2500) Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei (+3000) USC QB Miller Moss (+3000) Clemson QB Cade Klubnik (+3000) Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders (+3000) Kansas QB Jalon Daniels (+4000) Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon (+4000) https://sports.yahoo.com/2024-heisman-trophy-betting-carson-beck-and-quinn-ewers-are-bettors-early-choices-153737330.html
  4. Not going to post the entire article, but some good excerpts from the article which I’ll link at the bottom: The latest round of conference realignment destroyed the Pac-12 and positioned the SEC to reign supreme over softball, potentially unlike any conference over a single sport. Cat Osterman, a former three-time national player of the year, still sees hope for non-SEC programs. But the former Texas great who still holds school records in career victories (136), ERA (0.51), shutouts (85), and no-hitters (20), agreed the SEC is going to be a softball juggernaut. "It's still possible for other programs to be able to build and compete," Osterman said, singling out Oklahoma State, which has made the WCWS five straight years out of the Big 12. "But obviously, the SEC is going to be even stronger with Texas and OU." Texas coach Mike White, who's from New Zealand and began his career at Oregon, said the new SEC is going to be "really, really tough," adding that he can "see having 15 losses in that conference and still doing pretty well." Stop us if you've heard this before, but softball just means more, too. And Richardson, who faces many of the conference's schools every year from Liberty, sees it up close. "I think the SEC," she said, "is trying to dominate in all sports." The full story: https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/40280184/womens-college-world-series-softball-texas-oklahoma-sec
  5. This morning the Longhorns secured a pledge from Christasha McNeil of Lindenhurst, NY. McNeil is considered a “five-star” in the tennis rankings (yes they have star rankings too). She is ranked the No. 4 overall women’s player by DLM Coaching and the No. 9 overall player by Babolat for the 2025 recruiting class. 6. Jump start your day with OTF’s Coffee and Football! With more Longhorns discussion than you can shake a stick at, Bobby Burton, Gerry Hamilton and I will be talking all the latest that’s happening in Texas athletics, plus taking your question. Get in on the action starting at 8 AM.
  7. Gerry trying to derail our massive softball thread that we’ve spent days on. Jk 😉
  8. I wanted UF, but a big screw you to the Big 12 on the way out is cool too.
  9. Of the 134 FBS programs, only 15 won’t play an FCS school for the 2024 season. The Longhorns are one of those. They’re also the only SEC school who won’t play an FCS opponent in 2024. The others: Arizona State, Houston, Jacksonville State, Miami (OH), Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Sam Houston, Temple, UCLA, USC and Virginia Tech.
  10. Texas Softball Head Coach Mike White joined us on Coffee and Football today. You can watch it here (link starts at interview):
