    I agree hitting for the cycle is a huge deal and something that wasn’t talked about enough for sure. I thought for sure it would’ve made coffee and football on Monday.

    Good read Jeff! I’ll admit I had some reservation as to how Volantis would handle the move from the pen to, what we had presumed to be the Friday night stater. I think Schloss and staff made a key move starting Volantis on Sunday. He came out of the gate in midseason form. I’m also happy that Ruger pretty much picked up where he left off last season pre-flu less the first inning of the first game of the season. Ruger has taken a lot of pressure off Volantis. I do think the offense needs to be able to score in multiple ways which is something I bet Schloss wants too. But it’s early and there’s still some time to work on these things.

    Schloss had Harrison on a short leash in a tight game yesterday. I definitely wouldn’t be surprised to see him make this move.

    Ruger is definitely stronger this year. Last night his 80th pitch was at 95. It’s early in the season but so far Borba has done well as first in my opinion. He’s talented and also stronger this season but his baseball IQ has gotten a lot better. He saved an inning ending double play on a dribbler back to the pitcher early in the game last night by intentionally distracting the pitcher and getting caught in a run down between 3rd and home so guys behind him could advance. That was a heads up play that Schloss was no doubt happy with. So good to see Pack get his first hr of the young season last night. I’ve said it many times already but he has a real chance to be special.

    I should add Gerry says Jonah has a shoulder injury. I’m not certain of his injury in other words lol.

    He injured his hammy in bowl practice so I’ve heard. I don’t think it’s bad and expect him to be back on the field soon baring a setback.

    I also want to hear Jeff’s thoughts. At an high level Ethan Mendoza and Adrian Rodriguez are really good! Aiden Robbin’s I think is going to end up being a big portal get. I was pleased with Borba’s play at first. He dug throws out of the dirt from every other fielder and had a nice double play today. Anthony Pack Jr. has a chance to be special! Ruger Riojas, after a shaky first inning was pretty much in mid-season form the rest of the game and was really good (9k’s in 5IP). Harrison wasn’t bad Saturday. Volantis picked up where he left off last season in his first start and was also really good. Keep in mind it was opening weekend and the other opponent was UC Davis. This team still needs to come together as expected.

    From the small sample we’ve seen from Cozart and Crossland, Bing may have taken a step backward on the depth chart. Not that he was bad last season he just may not have what these big freshman have. I think he will be needed at some point I’m glad we have him.

    Yes sir that’s Packs ball all the way he has to call off Mendoza and go make the play. In the replay it didn’t appear Pack was calling off Mendoza. To clarify I actually don’t know how they scored it I had it as an error.

    I was thinking this too. I definitely didn’t expect Ruger to be the Friday night guy but I think he is capable especially with, what should be an improved and deeper pen. We could also see changes in the rotation over the next 3-4 weeks.

    Im super excited! Should be a fun season. Looking forward to seeing the team come together with all the new pieces.
