A defensive coach for decades. None of that makes sense. There’s no doubt Sark would prefer someone else to PK. Obviously PKs style doesn’t suit everyone. You ignore injuries. You know who screws up coverages? Backups that don’t have experience in high leverage situations. You ignore the pass rush. Let’s call it the secondary when our LBs don’t get depth. Our 2023 schedule had roughly 15 top 100 NFL picks in that NFL draft. That is 15% for those that struggle with math. That is a lot. Maybe even historic. That doesn’t include a fair number of underclassmen drafted the following year. DFEI provides you and others insight into the relative strength of the opponents offenses yet some people ignore it. Easy to play defense against WRs that can’t get open when being thrown to by inept QBs being protected by mediocre lines. The secondary didn’t let us down in 2023. It was a team effort. No sacks. Two turnovers. The offense inside the opponents 20 with 4 chances at the end of the game. Washington’s defense was JV level relative to their offense. The next to last offensive possession we had 1st and 10 from the 13. We have to kick a FG. If we score a TD there, all that was needed on the last possession was a FG. Maybe I’m wrong but thought Moore returned to show the NFL he could be versatile. Spirited football talk. It’s time.

True, but will the universities will give the governing authority power to enforce the rules with powerful consequences? The governing authority must have subpoena power to investigate but with a window of time. No more waiting a couple of years.

That's why I asked the question. I love the DC move because I like Muschamp, but I'm no way did I see PK as our main problem.

I understand why you ask this as history and past actions show its ineptness, but in theory it should be the governing body…NCAA. It’s the universities’ association, and they should govern themselves.

The NCAA, or a new organization, can legally cap pay-for-play since that wording is not in any piece of NIL legislation anywhere. In fact, in most NIL legislation, pay-for-play is forbidden. What you cannot cap is the NIL. However, you can legally take the schools out of offering and paying players with conference and national association rules. Players have a right through their agents to sell their NIL for any amount they want, but that's between them and the markets, not the schools. The schools and conferences should be able to form their own organization and set their own portal rules and base-level cost-of-living requirements for each player who cannot earn NIL dollars. If this nonsense continues as is, then the Universities should tell the NFL to form G Leagues and draft all these players straight out of high school for those teams. It's hypocritical to call this a university sport and these players student athletes.

Sark hinted again at it during SEC Media days. Not only does he want Champ to be the 'HC' of the D, he wanted someone who was closer with the players and recruits.

Great offense will beat great defense so the Washington game doesn’t bother me. Their QB was on that night - we didn’t hold up our side of the”great offense” against their not so great defense. The fact we can’t run on anyone with a pulse is deflating. I’m ok with a new DC that forces more of the action to the offense but until sark lives up to his billing we aren’t winning a natty

I agree. If you're going to put a cap on what players can make, the players have to be part of that conversation. You can't have Congress, the conferences and the schools decide among themselves what athletes are allowed to earn and expect that to be the end of it. If college sports wants the stability of the NFL model: spending limits, enforceable rules, etc.; eventually they're going to have to accept the other side of that model too. The players get a seat at the table.

I mentioned Arkansas at the end, but I’m not going to pretend the Razorbacks are on the same level as the Sooners or the Aggies.

He wanted a DC that could command all the defensive coaches without him having to do it. I think it came down to Sark giving up his offense and becoming an overseer of both, or finding someone that could be in totally control of defense.

Man. Sark should be 5-0 vs OU. 2021 and 2023 still sting a bit.

I still would have liked for him to have become a Longhorn Legend. He made a mistake by entering the portal. Wisner and Jordan Lee, in women's hoops, are the two athletes I wish would have stayed.
