62 Days Until Kickoff: Who’s Your Favorite No. 62?
Blake Munroe replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
That’s a dang good one. Occasionally, I’ll admit, we do miss them. Keeping up with hundreds of players across 100 diff numbers is definitely a tall task. -
Do yall think the line moves more in our favor with Balogun? We were a sliiimmmm favorite yesterday. I wonder what Balogun back in play does for us on that front.

I wonder if Johnny Nansen will be UT LB coach after one season with Muschamp. Do their styles mesh?

Lyle Sendlein. -
Yep…it’s why we have generally underachieved in the big 3 with baseball being the outlier but it has also been 20 years now since we’ve produced a title there. You hear it with some of the mods here and fans, “we made it to Omaha.”

Baseball portal is open

Those ranking reward quantity. South Carolina had to sign a completely new roster. 24 guys. Missouri would crawl over broken glass for our current portal class. Taking a handful of impact players > taking 15 average joes. Prime example: the #4 “best” portal class last year belonged to…..South Carolina. The #15 “best” portal class belonged to…Texas. Which one was actually better? -
Yes. But to those who would panic in response: again, "2026 portal rankings" are not "overall 2027 roster rankings." If you lose your whole team or they all sucked, then you need to go heavy in the portal (and have money to do so). When you return a bunch of production, you don't need to go as heavy in the portal (and don't have as much money to do so anyway). Does Texas still have needs to fill? Absolutely. But we shouldn't conflate "portal rankings" with "how good we will be in 2027"

I had no idea what to expect when clicking on this thread, but "relief" would probably best describe what I felt.

62 Days Until Kickoff: Who’s Your Favorite No. 62?
Hal Kemp replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
You beat me to it and I totally agree! I was going to say there was a consensus all American that played for the 69 national champions that wore #62 and he was pretty doggone good: Bob McKay! -

One more reason that one should not get carried away with the rankings. They are helpful, but certainly not perfect. -

Bob McKay #62. College Football HOF Consensus All-American 1969 1st Round Draft Pick Cleveland Browns Nine Year NFL Career 1978 - RT on New England Patriot team that set season record for rushing. Record stood until 2010. I like all of the Longhorns pictured above, but you really need to go back and add McKay, as he is hands down th most recognized #62 in our history. He also has an understated sense of humor and lives in Austin. Would be a VERY good guest for OTF imo. Hook 'em -

We’re 62 days away from Texas football. Today’s No. 62 group features Lyle Sendlein, June James and current Longhorn Connor Robertson. Sendlein is the headliner here. A starter on the 2005 national championship team, First-Team All-Big 12 in 2006, and a guy who finished his Texas career with 39 straight starts. He then carved out a really solid NFL career with the Cardinals, playing 136 games with 124 starts over nine seasons. June James was a four-year Longhorn and starting linebacker during the Fred Akers era before being drafted by the Lions in 1985 and spending time with Detroit and Indianapolis. And the current No. 62 is Connor Robertson, a senior offensive lineman who has played in 30 career games with eight starts and brings Academic All-Big 12 honors with him.
