Jordan91 Posted yesterday at 03:21 AM Posted yesterday at 03:21 AM Love that they win but I am not a fan of the style of play. Quote
ChanmanV Posted yesterday at 04:11 AM Posted yesterday at 04:11 AM I'm disappointed in that performance. I don't think Vic and the coaching staff did a good job preparing the team for the game. We made some adjustments at half to spread it out and go inside to success but starting the game we had bad matchups on defense. Putting Rory on Blakes and Lee on Galvan didn't make sense to be me and they took advantage. It would have been better to put Lee on Blakes and Rory on Galvan give then the size and quickness matching up much better. We stayed that way much longer than we should. Later Preston and Maddie guarding the 2 stars with Sidberry playing PF was better in the second half but the damage had already been done. Also the refs were vastly favoring Vandy. They had 3x the FT we had which was ridiculous. Blakes and Galvan are special players but we didn't play like Texas today. We never really recovered from their first punch out of the gate. The attention to detail on defense and the focus on offense was not there at all in the 1st half. Way too many open shots and missed bunnies which is very unlike us. Rory looked tired today. It's been a tough schedule the last 2 weeks so just chalk it up to a bad game. We can beat them in a rematch on a neutral site. 2 Quote
LonghornFan4Ever Posted yesterday at 04:58 AM Posted yesterday at 04:58 AM Coach Schaefer and the women's basketball program are basically in the same spot that football is with Coach Sark and softball was with Coach White before he won it all last year. They seem so close, but there's something that might be holding them back from reaching the top of the mountain. Schaefer has a lot of talent coming in from high school and international recruiting over the next few years, so you would think he will get it done at some point. It seems like he's open to recruiting players that can shoot the three at a good percentage, so that will help space the floor and allow his frontcourt more room to operate. As for the remainder of this season, hopefully a loss like this a turning point that propels this team for another deep tourney run. How this team responds in Knoxville on Sunday will tell us about the ceiling of this team this season. 1 Quote

It's been a long 2 weeks of tough games so it might have caught up to her given how much she put into the other games. She'll be back with vengeance if we face them again. 1 Quote

B2inATX Posted yesterday at 01:56 PM Posted yesterday at 01:56 PM Wow, Vic did not hold back in his post-game presser. Basically said the NIL money makes the players soft. 1 Quote
Califashorn75 Posted yesterday at 02:25 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:25 PM Oldacre missed a bunch of easy shots too. She needs to jump! Quote

But seriously he is spitting FACTS, one of the reasons I hated NIL starting. Everything starts at give an inch and they take a mile, which now you have more divas in all college sports than ever before. Quote
HookemTexas Posted yesterday at 02:53 PM Posted yesterday at 02:53 PM This reminds me of a certain Texas baseball coach, just spitting facts and owning it, but you can tell he cares about the kids and representing the university and he's passionate. Great coach. 1 Quote

Horrendous defensive gameplan was far and away #1. 3 Quote

I don't know if it was the gameplan, around the 2:44 mark, coach mentions that one of the coaches spent 2 weeks putting together a scouting report which they practiced and in the game the team, or player, didn't follow it at all, said 2 weeks worth of work out the window or something to that effect. Scout did a poor job defensively. Rory matching up on Blakes was bad and Lee bit on every move Galvan gave her. We stayed in that match up for most of the first half which led to 60%+ shooting for them. Even switching Lee on Blakes and Rory on Galvan would have made much more sense. Bri and Maddie held them more in check in the 2nd half. This felt like the LSU loss where I thought the scouting and gameplan was bad as well. The heart comment Vic made was clearly at Carlton, Lee, and Rory tonight. Rory and Carlton looked tired tonight and Lee was trying but failing defending Galvan. It’s a shame because Lee had her 3pt stroke tonight and we needed it late in the game but because of how it went defensively, she didn’t play at all in the 4th. Quote

This is the NIL "team" battle many coaches face today IMO I love it too but this team had been fighting hard outside of couple games this year. There’s a toll that’s taken by this time of year when you only played 7 players for an extended period early in the season. Our focus wasn’t good but Rory looked tired tonight and you put her on the best player in the nation. Players missed too many bunnies on offense but the scout was bad with the defensive matchups. Not adjusting that quick enough allowed them to balloon a huge lead. When a team is shooting 75% on you, you gotta make an adjustment which we didn’t. Vandy did to us what we usually do to teams so kudos to them. We’ll be more ready next time like you saw against LSU. Edited yesterday at 04:51 PM by ChanmanV Quote

There are situations it fits but I don’t think this was one of them. Big fan of Vic and what he’s done with the program though. Think he gets too emotional (both high and low) in his pressers. For example, talking about how all his players do is whine. He’s probably in the refs ear more than any coach in the conference. Those kind of things might not play well in the locker room. We shall see if he pushed the right buttons. I hope so and odds are he did as his resume speaks for itself. Quote

What you do know is it wasn't Booker, Preston, Crump, Sidberry, Oldacre, or Cunningham given they played most of the 2nd half. So that leaves Rory, Lee, Carlton, and Judd as potentially the players he's referring to. 1 Quote
Califashorn75 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Booker is his pet. She was lost offensively for three quarters. Wasn't taking the game seriously goofing around. Blakes is just better than any guard we have. Galvan is a magician with the ball and Lee had no chance. Carlton needs time to warm up and he didn't give it to her. Aaliyah has a lot of dog in her as does Sidberry. Oldacre missed a bunch of shots. It was their worse game of the season. Hopefully they bounce back. 1 Quote
Califashorn75 Posted just now Author Posted just now After re-watching the game, Coach Vic started the game with really bad matchups. He should have had Booker on Williams and Harmon on Galvan. Oldacre didn't do anything all night. I would like to have a lineup of shooters when behind too. That means sticking Crump in with Lee. Booker needs to stop shooting threes. She's horrible at it. Tennessee can beat us if we play like we did Thursday. Quote
