As NIL, revenue sharing, and the transfer portal redefine roster economics, it feels worth digging into how Texas basketball is structuring its strategy and whether we are optimizing.

I am curious how others see it. What questions should we be asking @Gerry Hamilton about our NIL structure, priorities, and competitiveness?

Budget

What’s the estimated total NIL budget for Texas Men’s Basketball this season, and how does it compare nationally?

Can you break down what portion is revenue-sharing vs. collective funding vs. individual deals?

Players & Recruiting

How much NIL is reportedly being targeted at high-value players/transfer portal targets?

With so much attention on NIL and the transfer portal, how is Texas approaching NIL differently for incoming high-school recruits versus transfer portal targets — and how does that shape recruiting priorities for basketball?

Competitive Strategy

How does Texas’ NIL approach differ from peers like A&M, Oklahoma, or national powerhouses?

If we are not going to pay top dollar for the top guys, what is the best lane for Texas to be in from an NIL standpoint?

Booster Dynamics

What hoops-specific booster engagement exists outside of the Texas One Fund? Can Miller get his own whale?

Are there any emerging organizations or funding vehicles geared specifically to basketball?

What else should we be talking about in regards to NIL?

The game last night, and comparing our talent level to Florida's, who also is a state school, raises questions of what we are doing compared to what they are doing in the realm of the above?

Not sure, but that should be the blueprint imo.  Florida has had quite a bit of success in hoops in the last 40 years for a school that is viewed as a football school.  6 Final Fours, 10 Elite Eights, and 12 Sweet Sixteens is not bad at all.  Have to figure out what they are doing from an NIL and roster construction standpoint and implement it at Texas.  I think Sean Miller is the right guy from what I have seen this season.

We are not even close to the Gators in talent right now.... The gap is wide.

Don't know the exact number, but I do know that when my son was guarding & battling Bo Ogden the other night in an extremely physical bi-district contest, Bo spouted off, "I'm making more in NIL than both your parent's salaries combined."

I chuckled because its probably true! Lol

That’s a 3-4 year build of a program you watched

Hough was a 3-star (3rd year in program)

Condon was ranked a 3-star out of Aussie (3rd year in program)

Reuben C. Lightly recruiting out of HS to Washington state out of NBA Africa I believe (2nd year in program)

SG Klavchar off bench was a 3-star out of Slovakia (3rd year in program).

Their NC team didn’t have a McDonald’s AA

It didn’t happen overnight …

Golden was 16-17 in year one (Florida fans thought he was a bust hire)

Lost in Round of 64 year two (when Hough, Condon were freshman)

Will Texas fans afford the time for Miller to build? I already see signs of no, just being 100% real.

He won the natty in year 3 so you saying miller isnt going to get time to build is kinda weird to say. Miller is getting at least 3 years and if he cant get us to be at least a ranked team by then hes not building up program (not saying bc of his coaching btw). You know most texas fans just want a consistent top 16 team not a natty or bust mentality for basketball. I mean we give sark everything and has yet to win it all and people love him 😂. I have not heard anyone complain that miller is not building this program up in fact most I have heard is that next year they expect him to build on top of what he has established in matas, heide, Wilcher, and the recruits coming in.

When you say “signs,” are you talking about people who actually have decision-making or making significant NIL support?

I trust CDC gives him good funds this offseason. He knows basketball is a revenue sport no reason to not give him at least what Florida is getting and I think the proof is in the recruiting class.
