Schaefer is 0 for 4 against #1 seed's in the NCAA tournament and doesn't seem to try and win any other way than his style. For example, he didn't want to use his 10 players to wear down the 6 UCLA players in that game. As a result, Booker went 3-23 and Harmon made ZERO shots in the 2nd half.

Schaefer I think has gotten Texas as far they're going to go.

USC, South Carolina, LSU, UConn all have better teams than Texas for next year.

It looks bad any way you slice it. Even if you think all this transfer stuff is more about the players than Vic, he brought them in, coached them, and constantly told us they were "great kids" except for the outburst after the Vandy game. All this tells us it wasn't properly managed. 

I'll add that you don't just ride with Booker during a 3-23 game. You adjust and let other players shoot the ball. It's obvious many players on the team thought that Vic wasn't fair.

Here we go again. Vic definitely has a stubborn streak. Most head coaches are control freaks. Remember Bobby Knight? Anyway, it's easy for players to think coaches favor others more than them. Why? Because it's true. They reward effort, skill, body language, defense, hustle, etc. See Coach Vic's love for Rori. 

Booker is the reason we made the final four so he rode her all the way even when she shot horrible against UCLA, as did Jordan Lee. Players on the bench saw just what we did. Parents of those girls were all thinking why is she still shooting? Vic loves Booker. Carlton never got the Booker treatment.

Old school coaches who win aren't going to change. Period. Either the girls on his team give 100% effort 24/7 or they will eventually portal out. Vic isn't going anywhere. 

The only portal transfer that bothers me is Jordan Lee. She was among his favorites. She's joining a loaded South Carolina team where getting minutes will be a challenge. She obviously left for the bag. Sad. I think she made a mistake.

The team and Vic are the reasons we made the Final Four, not Booker alone. 

I don't know that Bobby Knight is a comparison here. First, he was a great coach in the 1970s and 1980s. That won't matter to contemporary players. Secondly, Knight was never accused of having different standards for different players.

How do you know that Knight didn't have favorites? Have you seen his interviews? He had favorites dude. They all do. It's human nature.

If you don't show the team that you are willing to hold your "favorites" to the same performance standard, then the team isn't likely to take it well. Do you think Knight would have let Isaiah Thomas or Steve Alford shoot 3-23 in a Final Four?

Vic is doing a great job for us. Like all fan bases, it amazes me how many band wagon riding fans start attacking players and coaches after a loss. I love our program and will wait and see how it goes next year. We have a great class coming in . Will be young but quoting Coach Royal, if a dog is going  to bite you, it will do it as a pup. Bob Knight would not have shut down Alford or Thomas. You don't shut down your best players. Booker had carried us all year and got us there. Dance with the one that brung you. Another Royal quote. We came really close to winning it all with Maddy having worst game of her life. Hook Em

There are questions on leaving Madi in going 3-23 because Texas lost.  Texas wins with Madi hitting a key shot down the stretch and the conversation becomes "how did trusting your star player when she was struggling pay off in the win"?

It's just like when a coach goes for a trick play in football, success and you're a hero, it fails and wtf were you thinking?

The silence on this topic is deafening. 
 

Texas lost three players to the portal and has only added one. Since the one addition, Texas has not done a single thing and no quality players are left. 

Texas has needs and roster spots to fill regardless of the freshmen class I am tired of hearing about. This is frustrating. 

I’ve never been so disappointed in Vic.

Kentucky loaded up. I wanted Shaq's daughter. Fudge. I am like a lot of you, surprised we haven't signed another post player. Maybe Coach Vic has something brewing and we don't know yet. We need two more players for depth at the post and front court. Our newbies will have to grow up fast! The SEC is no joke.

LSU just signed international star Noa Morro from Spain. 6'3" post with a bunch of experience. Dang! She would have been perfect for us.

Today’s players wouldn’t want to play for Knight because he refuse to adapt. Coaches need to adapt as players and society change.

I did not like or expect those key players to leave. Agree we are depending way too much on young ones. I am no way an expert on talent and team make up for next year. I just know Vic has done a great job everywhere he goes so I am not giving up on them. My niece played for him when he first started. He was really tough back them. Hook em.

True - Jordan and Maddie also do a lot of the other things that coach wants - hard nosed defense, running the offense (even though they couldn't hit the ocean), the threat is still there for them as scorers as well which opens it up for other players.

I get the frustration as much as anyone else; just saying coaching is a lose/lose proposition unless you win.  There's always someone second guessing your decisions.

Also, in my opinion, with the portal departures, it was almost guaranteed that Texas would not be as good on paper afterwards until next season.  Those were three highly ranked recruits and realistically, you're not going to sign higher ranked replacements (that's assuming they go in the portal and then assuming they'd want to join your school).  I'm also disappointed in this year's offseason.  UCLA managed to hang onto their upper classmen last year and added Kneepkins which made them a bona fide contender and ultimately won the title.  Experience in the system and experience in the post-season are huge pluses.

2 post players: Brea Cunningham and Lovisa Hose

2 Power Forwards: Isi Etute, Bri Crittendon

2 Small Forwards: Madison Booker and Addison Bjorn (can also play shooting guard)

3 Point Guards: Bri Preston, Grace Prenter, Lizzy Spaight

2 shooting guards: Amalia Holguin and Zya Vann

This is a good team but needs more experience off the bench. 

Remember we currently have 11 on schollie for next year. We need two more for depth. I would suggest one post and one power forward. I would love a big from Europe who is used to playing tough and who is a grown ass woman.
