How does Punch compare to Koa Peat?

Size wise, yes. Peat has +4.25 wingspan, which is impressive. Seeing Punch in person, not sure he will measure over +4.

As a player, Punch is not that level offensive player. Peat is so advanced and talented as a player inside 15-feet.

Punch is better on defense, and may be better as a passer from the high-post are and in ball screen game though

Is it just so he can capitalize on the weak 27 draft? I don’t see how he’d expect a big role with this current team.

Yeah that’s my first thought as well.  How would that work from an NIL perspective?  Texas has one roster spot left.  I assume they’re still searching for a backup big.  Spears Jr. could fill that role, but I find it hard to believe a player of his caliber would reclassify to ‘26 and come to Texas and compete with Clark for that backup PF spot.  Maybe UK made a power play to see if they could add him as a starting PF to their roster for this season.

Isaiah Johnson, Goosby, Freeman, Punch, Matas, Mikey, Amari Evans, Marcus Spears Jr as a top 8 is debatably the best in the country. With guys like Bo, Clark, Lewis, Sterling getting more time to develop and play in early season games. Plus you could potentially get everyone back next season for a 2 year window.

Would be insane if Sean Miller, Chris Ogden, CDC, etc. pulled this off.  I would be speechless.  Would be the most shocking move of the offseason not just for Texas basketball, but Texas athletics period.  Just sounds too good to be true, but hopefully it is true.

Punch is a better shooter than Peat which isn't saying much.

It looks like since Spears was born in 2009 even if he reclassified he would not be eligible for 27 draft.

Correct. Marcus Spears Jr. is NBA draft eligible in 2028.

Why I mentioned inside 15-feet for Peat. But Peat did have a higher 3% on limited attempts last season.

Key with Punch, I expect him to make a jump to 30%'ish from 3 this year, and hopefully ascend 3-5% from the FT line. Texas is working with him on this right now and this summer. Getting the guide hand positioned/usage more consistent.

Would love this move then if it came to fruition. A year to learn, play, and develop. Then takeover on his draft year.

Trilly Donovan on his discord has basically confirmed that his reclassification is in the works and Texas is a leader. I have no idea how he fits into this roster.

Heard this too that texas is leading thats impressive
