This should be the nail in the coffin 1 minute ago, Colby TS said: I remember seeing a report that he bet the under on yards for the QB at Indiana. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/48909854/sorsby-placed-least-40-bets-indiana-football-hoosiers-qb from the article : "Sorsby, who appeared in 10 games and made seven starts at Indiana in 2023, said he was unaware of an October 2022 bet on the under for Indiana's quarterback passing yards or a September 2023 bet on the under for the first half of a Hoosiers football game." You absolutely have to ask if he placed these bets with inside information. If so, he committed a crime. Twice. And community college is trying to sweep this under the rug. 6 Quote

There is no way a judge SHOULD grant this young man an injunction. It was probably a bad idea to seek one as well as it has now revealed the extent of his problems and likely opened him up to criminal liability. Will be interesting to see the positions his lawyers take publicly given their ethical responsibilities to the court and duty of candor. You have to think they released this knowing that either the authorities already have all of this evidence or he has already arranged plea deals and the eligibility question is the only thing keeping him from being able to play. I don’t have any idea what the potential criminal penalties are for this, but it would certainly be difficult to plead not guilty considering he’s admitted to the evidence. Of course they can try the mental illness angle in criminal court also. 1 Quote
Hookem72 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Apparently he was paying other people to make bets for him—which is evidence he knew it was wrong—and was under the legal age in Indiana when he made the bets. So the people who made the bets could be responsible also. Betting on your team can also be illegal if it involves score fixing. Some Arizona basketball players went to prison for the point shaving part of it and conspiracy to fix the outcome. Not saying that is involved, but the magnitude of his bets on his own team just look terrible. There has to be a consequence for him betting on his team for the sake of the integrity of the game. Not getting to play College sports seems like a slap on the wrist as a penalty. 5 Quote

I agree that money can be the great equalizer, but Sorsby might lose millions of earnings because of his life choices and the Tech brass is fine with it because they've lost their soul in their zeal of winning at all costs. If I were a high school coach, I wouldn't want them stepping into that environment. As a father, there's no way I would want my children going to that clown show of a university. TT has been upgrading its academic rep. For example, it has been attracting national merit finalists with full ride scholarships. But now, with this corrupt tail wagging the dog the school has suffered a blow to its reputation that may set back its image for a decade. This is a damned shame. America and Texas need more reputable and affordable engineering schools. Football wasn't ever going to add to TT's quietly improving reputation but it didn't have to sully it, which it has. I think TT's President deserves to be fired, immediately. 3 Quote
MarkInAustin Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago https://www.texastech.edu/board-of-regents/bio-heath.php This is the kind of student TT has been trying to attract. As for his role as the student on the Board of Regents it expires tomorrow, or I would have written to him and asked for his vote to end this self immolation, which, of course, is the stepchild of the Board Chair. Self immolation is exactly the right term. Sorsby is embarrassing himself. Quote

Gambling is a problem and online versions are the fuel. Not saying they haven’t….. but did they place a bet on their OWN team, while playing QB (which is default a “leadership” role regardless if starting or not. Kinda hard to try to compare if anyone on our team happened to gamble. But gambling on baseball or basketball vs your own team is completely different imo 9,000 bets including ones when you just transferred in with $5mil coming your way is wild. You would think once you had $5 mil you would stop using your homies name/account in case it would cost ya that said $5 mil. Yet here we are. 2 Quote
watty7796 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago No matter how this turns out, TT has lost all credibility. Question 2 is why do they want this kid around...as a qb you have to have it between the ears. This tells you flat out how bad his decision making is, character as a leader, and ability to accept responsibility for his own actions. Quote

Dudes get caught taking steroids trying to say they have a drug addiction and were afraid to come forward? Lol Quote

I do find it hilarious that he'd have a tougher time getting into the NFL than he will of getting reinstated to play college football. Edited 10 hours ago by Neil Leininger 2 1 Quote

Bobby Burton Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Folks who are trying to act like Sorsby deserves grace are correct. He deserves grace. He just doesn't deserve grace in the form of playing in 2026 or ever again in college football. There are lines you don't cross. Sorsby did, and he did it with the knowledge his actions would have consequences. Addiction or not, those are the rules. 5 1 Quote
taxsaver Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Totally agree, Bobby. Most mistakes we can recover from. In THIS case, there is no recovering from a football point of view. God will forgive you. The football world will NOT. Why? Because the business of football would be destroyed. Not just college, but NFL as well. And it would spill over to HS. Far more than just football players would be affected. It's already bad enough that we allow "officiating" blunders to the degree we do. But that's for another discussion. HOOKEM Quote
nineliveslost Posted 45 minutes ago Posted 45 minutes ago This is so flabbergasting to me. The guy gambled, on his own team. Multiple times. He is done. No second chances. Gone. It should be that simple. Allowing it would destroy the integrity of the sports and corrupt it even further. Why would Tech push back even a millimeter? Quote

tsip92 Posted 13 minutes ago Posted 13 minutes ago The other thing that Tech has failed to acknowledge is that if he falls back into his addiction he will find a way to circumvent all the digital and financial account monitoring that they are using to justify that he can safely participate in football in the future. The first time some alumni hands him a Benjamin there’s nothing that they can do keep him from buying a burner and paying someone to set up an account for him. I’m sure that there are plenty of people that would be more than willing to go out of their way to “help” someone that is publicly known to be sitting on $6m (assuming he’s allowed to play). Quote
